POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

That is a fair point, Wisko, and I understand that in its purest form, faith theoretically requires a kind of unquestioning commitment. But don't have that kind of faith. If someone tells me he believes gay people are sinners, I see him as personally responsible for that belief, just as I would if his parents, aunts and uncles, and grandparents all held that belief.

Exactly, a person can decide (or decide to now) follow that particular faith.

Fair enough as I agree we are responsible for ourselves and our own beliefs. On the other hand most religions would classify you and I as sinners as well (more you than I, in all likelihood. :p) so I don't take such exception to that concept in itself but rather recognize individuals are given a choice as to how they deal with that issue within the parameters of their belief system. Most relatively liberal Catholics I know personally for example, would treat LGBTQ's the same as all the rest of us sinners.

(In contrast to my own religion, which considers Brock Boesser to have committed the deadliest of sins in spurning the warm and friendly Badger confines for the cold and lonely Prairie. This, I do not forgive.)

Welp, month and a half to his presidency beginining and Trump is already bored with the job. His big rally tonight in Ohio basically devolved into reliving his glory days on the campaign trail. "Remember that time nobody said I could win North Carolina, but then they were actually way more racist than anybody thought? That was awesome." Yeah, you won. Nobody gives a **** about the campaign anymore. Now you've actually got to do your job.

Boesser died in the hearts of Badger fans, arose again from the red, he ascended into Hockey Heaven and sitteth at the right hand of Tyson Jost. He died to wash away the sins of Chris Chelios so that Badger fans would at least be able to enjoy good football.

What could possibly go wrong with ol' Mad Dog?

Unrelated, but the head of CNN in a room with the people that ran losing GOP campaigns was everything you'd imagine it to be.

Jeff Zucker is one of the most incompetent people in all of television. He **** near destroyed NBC when he was in charge. The Book Desperate Networks (by the guy who wrote The Late Shift about Leno/Letterman) details how terrible he was.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

I'm sorry but how is it look at me when they are all doing it because he is living there? It's a total shame move...

You misused Carlin feel shame ;)

We don't have to feel shame about anything anymore! This is Trump's America, you pu$$y!1!!1! ;)

I really have no problem with them doing it - Pence is an openly bigoted POS. I just think it's funny, and a bit shallow, that they bust out the flags now that Pence-sieve has moved in.

It is not your job to decide that gays are sinners.

That strikes me as a bit of an inaccurate criticism. The individual isn't really deciding it. A practitioner of any of a good number of religions worldwide has that particular issue decided for them, don't they?

Burd you let him off too easy for his response which completely dodged the point. Whether or not God judges a gay person to be a sinner it is still not up to us to additionally pass judgment. Never mind every human on the face of the planet is a sinner.

Secondly, the God of the Bible I believe in would no more find a married gay person to be a sinner for their relationship than they would a married heterosexual. The God I know would not find fault with a loving, committed member of a consensual relationship simply because it's with a member of the same sex and it's all the more reason to support gay marriage.

We agree on the question of whether homosexuality is wrong, Slap, though I don't believe in God. But I do believe you are a better forechecker than I am.

The point I was making is perhaps one of semantics, but "deciding" gays are sinners for billions of practitioners isn't really a thing. They find it written down in texts like the OT, the Quran, the Book of Mormon, and interpreted/concluded for them in several forms of Christianity, Islam, Orthodox Judaism, Mormonism and even Theravada Buddhism. I simply was suggesting a distinction between that and the individual "passing judgement". While certainly we're all familiar with a certain Christian religious right (as an example) that often seems to forgo Jesus' admonitions against casting stones and passing judgement, I recognize there are also many good, humble, and compassionate people of faith that struggle with the conflicts arising with this issue and the teachings of their church, and are quite aware they aren't in a position to pass judgement, regardless.

On the bright side, as gay rights and gay marriage have been thrust to the forefront of social issues, there has been progress made within some of these religious institutions. As another example, just 20 years ago the Dalai Lama (whom I've had the great good fortune to meet, but alas, not as his caddy) the leader of Tibetan Buddhism, had considered homosexuality to fall into the category of "sexual misconduct". He has since evolved and greatly softened this stance which seems to me quick progress in a 2500 year old religious tradition.

Yeah, but he's filthy rich and not living check to check so he's perfect for the new Trump economy so there's that.

So, we saved Carrier by giving them a big handout. Yet, when Obama saved Detroit (hundreds of companies, it was wrong.)

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Kep

Catholics don't hate gays or any of the LGBTQ community or drunks, or tax cheats, or even heretics.

We admonish the sinner trying to let them see the errors of their actions. If a sinner wishes to continue to sin, then they face the consequences.

Some may disagree with that. OK.

The fact that you group them together is, frankly, disgusting.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

The Spritual Works of Mercy

To instruct the ignorant.
To counsel the doubtful.
To admonish sinners.
To bear patiently those who wrong us.
To forgive offenses.
To console the afflicted.
To pray for the living and the dead.

This is such a beautiful doctrine. We should all adopt it. I'm serious.

The maddening thing about Catholic doctrine -- the hardcore stuff the Jesuits have been painstakingly working out for almost 500 years -- is that it is one of the most intellectually rigorous and just plain well thought out products of the human mind ever devised. It's as elegant as a Gothic cathedral and as a sturdy as, well, a Romanesque cathedral. A great mind can play inside Catholic doctrine for a lifetime and not feel stultified in the least.

But. This beautiful structure is used to prop up an ideology which veers on one side into the silly (naive supernaturalism) and on the other into the ugly (callous bigotry and zealous persecution). It's like a magnificent work of art hanging in Trump's apartment.

Rarely, outside of the military, has genius been so misused.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

I believe it is the church that groups them all together.

"I was only following orders" does not exempt a person from responsibility for their actions. The right to swing my fist ends where the other man's nose begins.

I don't think he was espousing his personal views as much as speaking what the Catholic position is. There was no action involved as far as I could tell.

I understand that. I'm saying the church is one of the last vestiges of an ideological apparatus that has caused real damage to gay people. They have to back away from their bigoted attitudes towards gays, just as they did from their bigoted attitudes towards Jews. And they will, in time, as the old guard dies off.

Catholic teaching aint what you'd call a "leading indicator." They got around to apologizing for the Crusades about 700 years after the fact. They should have their sh-t together on gays by about 2250.

Assuming Jesus does't return in the meantime and say he's always been down for cock and what did we think "fishers of men" meant?

edit: whatever you do, do NOT google "Jesus slash fiction."

Wrong thinking is punishable; right thinking will be as quickly rewarded. You will find it an effective combination
