Anyone attacking the Minnesota model (which is not to say it's perfect) needs a head check.

"And [Grant]'s finally being recognized as a great general."

Yes, finally. I mean it took 150+ years but finally. If only he had been elected for two terms as President and saluted all over the world while on a world tour and almost nominated for a third term, or something like that. Frederick Douglas too. It's just such a crazy coincidence he's finally being recognized now, the day after Trump read a paragraph about him on a ketchup packet or something.

Tax revenues exceeding budget, that's surplus. It happens, but it's also a signal that tax rates might be too high.

But putting money into the rainy day fund should be in the budget. You shouldn't only do that when you have excess revenues to budget.

If revenues don't meet the budget, well, that's why the rainy day fund.

Personally, I like the electric cooperatives model: Excess revenues (in that realm called "margins") ultimately belong to and go back to the member-owners of the cooperative. Excess revenues are a signal that rates may be too high.

And is all the ad hominem really necessary.

Frankly if ND was smarter, it would tax at a higher rate. It has an economic boon in oil. Problem is that the oil companies are headquartered elsewhere, the money that is spent happens only in Wiliston, many of the workers come from elsewhere and will leave - and even then their skills arent transferable. So the one chance that ND has to gain from this situation is to tax and build a desirable business climate through education and infrastructure, etc. That business climate then creates jobs and a healthy living climate. But ND lets much of that tax money leave.

You say...have a cheap tax climate and businesses will be attracted to that? Not true. Competing on a low tax, cheap operating model for ND is a bad idea. Why wouldn't a company choose to go to TX instead? Same low taxes, but warm weather and a far more skilled workforce. Minnesota figured that out...tax and create a quality society...a long time ago. Hence we have higher taxes, yet more Fortune 500 companies per capita than any other state. If you don't want to pay your fair share...youre a cheapskate and we really don't need you.

Awesome. Well stated.

Re: POTUS 45.41: We Need More Tax Cuts to pay for the Tax Cut

Minnesota was ranked as the “worst” state for taxes/business yet... weird.

Re: POTUS 45.41: We Need More Tax Cuts to pay for the Tax Cut

Apparently Kushner pays less in taxes than I do. Another Republican thing.

Re: POTUS 45.41: We Need More Tax Cuts to pay for the Tax Cut

I used to think trump sneaked in the WH back door as a sort of outlier surprise. That was mistaken: he's the quintessential republican leader.

FYP. The tax loopholes don't discriminate. I don't see (D) CEOs volunteering to pay their fair share of taxes. Granted, Republicans lead the way to these loopholes, but the Dem CEOs/etc don't exactly fight it.

1. We aren't talking about CEOs or any private citizen. Unlike CEOs, those in the white house 'love!' this country.
2. Loopholes that are somewhere in the realm of average...is very different than absolutely zero taxes.
