Brown has been the most effective governor in the country IMHO. He took a state largely thought to be ungovernable and made it work all with a pretty liberal agenda.

Jerry Brown: expert cat herder

:)

Re: POTUS 45.41: We Need More Tax Cuts to pay for the Tax Cut

Jerry Brown and Mark Dayton have proved that you can carry a surplus and put forth a progressive agenda and pay all the bills. Republicans should be scared they've proven that but instead they've gone full on Reagan trickle down anyway. And, the voters continue to fall for it all over the country.

Fact: They've created surpluses.
Fact: CA (#1) and MN (#3) high state income tax states. https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/fun-facts/states-with-the-highest-and-lowest-taxes/L6HPAVqSF

If they're rolling a surplus with a goal of paying down debt, fine, but is it really a surplus then? (If it's intended it's not surplus.)
If they're rolling a surplus with a goal of fixing other problems (infrastructure), fine, but again is it ...

If they're rolling a surplus with no plan that's when the trouble starts because legislators with loose money is not a great thing.

It is rather weird that people still fall for that crap. Look at the states in the best shape...look who is in control. Look at the states in the worst shape...look who is in control. It is night and day.

Wisconsin learned it the hard way and finally they seem poised to fix it as Walker looks to go down hard. I mean Sconnies tend to be a decade behind anyways so not surprising it took them this long to see show much worse of they were than Minnesota with our blue tendencies.

Yes you tax to pay for things. I know that doesn't make sense to the Spend and Debt Righties but that is how you don't end up in trouble.

Spending never gets cut so you either tax or you go broke. That is why TPaw failed and Dayton crushed. If Dayton wasn't sick he would win re-election walking away.

Wow you need taxes to pay for good education and healthcare? Crazy!!

See. This is a complete lack of financial conservatism. And it's a complete lack of fiscal sanity.

Surplus is needed. Always. Why? Cause the recession is going to hit. And when it does you need money in the bank to grease the skids. Republicans have no money for a rainy day. They always want to spend it.

Iowa is tripling down. So are the Dakotas. Can't wait till the oil money dries up.

Again, is that really "surplus". That's funding the rainy day account and should be in the budget (like ND did during $100 oil).

Fine by me...they can continue to live in the Stone age no skin off my nose.

NoDak best hope the Red River doesn't flood again...

No, they want it to flood. It's just like in the South. Privatize the profits and socialize the losses. Every Republican has wet dreams to that theme. It's in Ayn Rand's books.

Yes it is. You use it to pay for the bad times. This isn't advanced math.

If you spend it like NoDak did you have nothing to help when the economy goes boom. What happened when oil dropped to $60?

But sure we could do it your way...how did that work out for Wisconsin? How about Minnesota when TPaw went Republican economy? You can talk economic theory til the cows come home but the facts bear out that your way will fail every time.

No money for that...Fema got gutted again. Funny that always seems to happen under the GOP

They don't want FEMA to do it. They'll privatize FEMA. And if a town is deserted, so be it, they weren't worth our time anyway.

You can't really compare federal spending to state spending though. The Republican tax cuts obviously weren't "paid for" either.

A) Infrastructure should be paid for using bonds. Long-term projects with long-term benefits should be paid over long-term periods of time, amortized, in a word.
B) Excess tax money collected should either be placed into an emergency funds account (natural disaster recovery, championship team rioting celebration recovery, etc.), or spent on one-time budgetary needs examples of which escape me at the moment, or a single tax rebate but not a reduction in rates lest they become a regular occurrence.
