POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

The NY Times has a good insight into Trump's inner workings. It appears Twitter is his stress relief and he's not happy with the replies he gets.

Aides confer in the dark because they cannot figure out how to operate the light switches in the cabinet room. Visitors conclude their meetings and then wander around, testing doorknobs until finding one that leads to an exit. In a darkened, mostly empty West Wing, Mr. Trump’s provocative chief strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, finishes another 16-hour day planning new lines of attack.
The bungled rollout of his executive order barring immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries, a flurry of other miscues and embarrassments, and an approval rating lower than that of any comparable first-term president in the history of polling have Mr. Trump and his top staff rethinking an improvisational approach to governing that mirrors his chaotic presidential campaign, administration officials and Trump insiders said.

This account of the early days of the Trump White House is based on interviews with dozens of government officials, congressional aides, former staff members and other observers of the new administration, many of whom requested anonymity. At the center of the story, according to these sources, is a president determined to go big but increasingly frustrated by the efforts of his small team to contain the backlash.
Cloistered in the White House, he now has little access to his fans and supporters — an important source of feedback and validation — and feels increasingly pinched by the pressures of the job and the constant presence of protests, one of the reasons he was forced to scrap a planned trip to Milwaukee last week. For a sense of what is happening outside, he watches cable, both at night and during the day — too much in the eyes of some aides — often offering a bitter play-by-play of critics like CNN’s Don Lemon.
Another change will be a new set of checks on the previously unfettered power enjoyed by Mr. Bannon and the White House policy director, Stephen Miller, who oversees the implementation of the orders and who received the brunt of the internal and public criticism for the rollout of the travel ban.
But for the moment, Mr. Bannon remains the president’s dominant adviser, despite Mr. Trump’s anger that he was not fully briefed on details of the executive order he signed giving his chief strategist a seat on the National Security Council, a greater source of frustration to the president than the fallout from the travel ban.

It is partly because he is seen as having a clear vision on policy. But it is also because others who had been expected to fill major roles have been less confident in asserting their power.

He's a yes man who always had people who agreed with his moves now performing the same tasks at the governmental level. He doesn't have people who can lead on their own, because he never wanted that.

Bannon, seeing opportunity in the power void, has grabbed both reins, but because of his friendly past with Trump, Trump won't tell him to back down. (Or Trump appreciates someone of his ilk 'learning [Trump's] tactics.')

Publishers are going to be making mint off the subsequent "tell-all" books to be written about this.

Assuming this true...what is your point? That because SOME negative polls are fake, all negative polls are fake? That is exactly the type of BS dangerous over-generalizations we need to be raging against right now. Just because SOME polls are false, does not mean ALL polls are false. Just like the fact that SOME Muslims/Christians/Hindus/Atheists/FSMs are terrorists does not mean that ALL Muslims/Christians/Hindus/Atheists/FSMs are terrorists. Just like the fact that SOME of Donald's supporters are racists does not mean that ALL of Trump's supporters are racists.

My point is that there is genuine rubbish out there. I'm certain some of these 'polls' are deliberate attempts to sway people's opinion. No doubt Trump shouldn't be saying that, but the phony pollesters should be dealt with harshly.

Where's Handy?
I wanted his take on the UMinn prof that says Trump is setting himself up like Walker in Wisconsin.

This is the craziest quote:

This is why we don't want incurious morons as president.

I think Handy already answered that when he posted about Lying vs. Talking Down to people. Walker took advantage of the same thing. I believe that's a box that progressives can never get out of.

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

You know, I've been wondering. Who had ultimate control over the USMS? I know it's the justice department so obviously they report up through the AG. But do they follow the AG or the district judges when conflicting orders come out?

Also, bump. I don't want this question to get lost. I still haven't found or heard an answer. It seems the answer is pretty murky from what I've read.

Way to dodge the substance of the issue and instead attack Scoobs, more of that grown up behavior you are seeking.

I've dodged nothing. I said that both sides have been acting like children, and in response receive Yeah, but they did if first/too for responses. So I called out the defender-in-chief of one set of children for doing just that.

It looks like they officially report up through the DOJ, but work on behalf of orders issued by the US Federal Courts.

Seems like every day another GOP official says something like this.

How long until we take them at their word?

Thanks. So they could be fired by Trump via proxy? As in, "AG, if you don't fire so-and-so, I'll fire you?" Not trying to introduce any commentary here, just trying to figure out how this would play out.

It doesn't take a genius to know what he really meant. He meant what he originally said. Time to kill a protestor or ten. His apology shouldn't suffice. He should resign.

The magazine Cosmopolitan reported Monday that Conway cited the non-existent “massacre” in an interview with one of its reporters a few days before she made the claim on MSNBC, on Jan. 29, with additional details.

"He did, it’s a fact,” Conway told Cosmo, arguing that Obama had also banned Iraqi refugees from the U.S. (he did not ban them, but slowed down the resettlement program and revetted some refugees who had been admitted already).

“Why did he do that? He did that for exactly the same reasons,” Conway told Cosmo. “He did that because two Iraqi nationals came to this country, joined ISIS, traveled back to the Middle East to get trained and refine their terrorism skills and come back here and were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre of taking innocent soldiers' lives away."

So, uh, this is clearly not a mistake. This was a calculated move that was repeated.

Assuming what's in wiki is correct, yes, the president or AG could remove marshals from service, unless there are union issues which could change the process somewhat.

It's gonna get interesting. There are a few out there with the theory that Brietbart is actually paying the protesters to get violent. I would not put that past then to get what they want- trump mentioned defunding universities a day or two before Berkeley.

Trump has consistently exhibited the absolute worst traits of a twelve-year-old. No President in my memory comes even close. He's is the Big Leagues, while all the others are hitting plastic balls off a tee.

Conway is making a correct assumption, which is that the media will be too cowardly to challenge her in the moment when she makes a claim like that. Then by the time they get around to it the next day or so, we're onto the next controversy. Don't blame her, blame the people hosting these TV shows who are allowing themselves to be used like a baby uses a diaper.

False Equivalency. Defense. 15 Yard Penalty. Please repeat 1st down.

He's a somewhat popular fellow, long time Republican party worker, in a light blue county with a lot of deep red rural voters, with a weekend radio show on one of the more powerful FM stations in the UP.

This will be forgotten about regionally in a week.

Re: POTUS 45.3 - Bowling Green Massacre Memorial Thread

Clown, I get what you're saying, but it's funny and hypocritical of Sic to post op-ed pieces that effectively say, "Shut up, or else Middle America will give you 8 years of this idiot."

Seems like every day another GOP official says something like this.

How long until we take them at their word?

He's a moron.
