Playoff Results 2021

Nice synopsis Tony! I’m with you hoping that the Huskies can win it this year....and aside from ARM’s honest statement from earlier that in previous years every HE team withers in their matchups against whichever WCHA team they meet in the finals, you’re exactly right that Northeastern does seem to have the components this year to bring the Championship to Boston! If the Badgers have a bad week, it wouldn’t hurt.....enjoy!

"Based on their lack of a selection-show-reaction video on the team’s Twitter account, I’m guessing they were probably as surprised as the rest of us to see themselves in the bracket."

While looking for info on why Providence has had such a 'short bench', and who might or might not be available (and - other than "COVID" - finding essentially nothing) I saw a brief interview with their coach on the local ABC affiliate. He said "after the roof blew off my house, within ten minutes, we got on a Zoom call with the players and ...".

So your guess is right on the money.

NU 2 RMU 0 midway in period 2
Fontaine with a breakin blocker side high after Kirk makes 2 tremendous saves earlier in the period.

NU 3 RMU 1 end of 2
SOG 31-19 NU
Mueller gets the goal after a VERY QUESTIONABLE ICING call on RMU. Frankel appeared to play the puck before the icing whistle yet the referee let the icing stand. 10 sec left in the period and NU gets the goal after the faceoff win by Mueller.

Watching with the sound off. What happened on that icing before NUs 3rd goal? Looked like one ref waved it off and other blew whistle? Colontino is going to be livid.

I thought Frankel played the puck way before the whistle for icing.

It was more-or-less a tie in the 'race to the dot', and Frankel moved towards the puck to play it, though I'm not sure she actually did or not. So a couple reasons the RMU coach wanted the icing call to be changed, and maybe rightfully so.

Yea she definitely played it, and Colontino started yelling immediately. I honestly thought they would drop puck at centre ice.

The only explanation that I can see is that he determined he was going to blow the whistle before she played the puck. My understanding is that as soon as she leaves her crease, then the icing is off. Hate to see a play like that factor into the outcome.

Five on five, RMU has done really well. But on transition, with resulting turnovers, etc, Northeastern's quickness has just killed them.
