Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

I would concur Remy with your thoughts. Coach Emery has been around too long and is too wise NOT to use this as a motivational tool. Perhaps the Cards can win it all and give the ole one finger salute to the NCAA in the process.

Nah, they'll leave the trophy on center ice and then send the water boy out to retrieve it after they're back in the locker room!

Good luck to the girls,no problem with that and the team deserving home ice, but NO, the RIGHT decision was not made for the men, the coaches and the loyal Cardinal fans. One can Never say THAT was the right decision nor accept that judgment as fair. This must have been recognized by all PSU addmin/NCAA, that this was a very good possibility of what could occur and perhaps then alternatives should have been considered 2 weeks, last week, days ago. What came first, the chicken or the egg or who laid one?? Good luck to both teams . You have our support.

I'm sorry, I have to respectfully disagree here. The men just barely earned home ice, while the women absolutely earned it. We're also talking a championship weekend versus one quarterfinal game. We're giving the women the chance to defend their national championship game on home ice.

I've said it yesterday, and I will say it again... Which is better for the Plattsburgh area, especially businesses: One men's team with maybe 25-50 travelling fans, or 3 women's teams including Elmira and either Middlebury or Norwich (all of whom have proven to have decent traveling fans within a reasonable distance)? When you consider that Plattsbugh doesn't get the box office money either way, I think the right decision was made.

Ultimately, this decision wasn't about the school, it wasn't about the fans. It was about treating the players in as fair a manner as possible (recognizing that the fairest option had already been ruled out by the NCAA)

Perfectly put..... drop the mike and walk off stage!

While it would seem that the lady Cards are odds on favorites to win the game vs St Thomas we do still have to play the game. The only thing we can say with certainty is that the Plattsburgh State men will be playing next weekend.

Which, if you had asked us after the Middlebury/Williams weekend, is more than we could have hoped!

You are way off on this Nate. You are looking at this as an either/ or that is simply not the case. No on is disputing their right but why punish the men for their own, good fortune.
Their right is being infringed upon. There is no reason why this had to be a problem to begin with. Accommodations could have been made. Who are you to place more value on the women over the men in general. Who decides what and who is more important in life.

You're missing the point, THEY TRIED TO HAVE BOTH! The NCAA said NO, not PSU. The issue is we have 4 times the money paying men's hockey fans then the free women's fans. I can see both sides. The issue people aren't seeing is that the NCAA controls this, not PSU. What were they supposed to do that they didn't try? Had this been men's championship vs women's I have little doubt the school would have went with the men's team (or Bob Emery probably walks off the bench). Fact is this IS the women's Finals, not a preliminary round. I don't follow or particularly care for but this is their moment to shine. The men will travel to Trinity and or Nichols, out number their fans and have their own moment the following week in Minneapolis. This is a Cardinal team that thrives on emotion and the train is full of gas and heading straight through. It's time to move on and move forward. What's done is done and as I said the only way to say **** You to those who wouldn't allow next weekend to happen (sorry someone has a stick up their *** for Plattsburgh) is to move on and JUST WIN BABY!

Maybe if I type slower....

The school was told "you cannot host both tournaments that weekend". Accommodations were offered. NCAA said no. School was faced with a choice of letting the women host the Final Four or let the men host a QF. With the women closer to the National Championship, they get to host. I agree with the school. It sucks for the men. It's not fair to the men. Like I said earlier, the men should take it out on Trinity or Nichols next weekend.

I suppose we're just not going to agree on this point, then.

Do you think there's anyone out there silently hoping St. Thomas women have a good day tomorrow? Ooops, may have just seen one...in the mirror !!!

Come on man that's bad karma. You should be supporting your entire University's athletic programs. Do you think the women's team enjoy being put in this spot? You Platty fans are so lucky to have problems such as this. Geez...

Beat me to it. You would think the NCAA told the men's team they weren't allowed to play next week, period. I will say that if the girls were to lose tomorrow, I won't lose any sleep.

+1. I will be at the Ladies' game this afternoon cheering them on, just as I have for most of their home games this year. I support all Plattsburgh Athletics (except Basketball, for reasons that have nothing to do with the teams themselves, but rather the sport).

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

On the other hand, I generally support only the Men's hockey team. I do wish all of our other teams well and pay some attention to them. But it's OK to be super passionate about one of the school's sports right? I guess when it blatantly interferes or reduces the hockey teams' chances, some of us get a little bitter. Whether or not the one's in the Ivory Tower want to admit it, the Men's hockey team is the flagship of the school and always has been.

I'm all for equality and political correctness, but to a point. The women's team has been very successful and I take nothing away from them. But to not be able to work something out so that we can all enjoy our team is shameful. Shame on that small NCAA women's hockey committee who "Didn't want to share the limelight".
