Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

JEEPERS !!!! This could breath new life into the "my team was screwed" thread....
I am sure the NCAA knew what could possibly happen when the brackets for both were set. Just like everything else, they will keep their thoughts a secret until the need to release the information comes along. What else is new with the NCAA ?

The NYSHS Hockey Championships have been in Utica for years too, and the NCAA told them to make it fit or you don't host. Don't be so sure they put two and two together, this is the NCAA. The ONLY option is if they allow the use of the other rink in Plattsburgh for "practice" (Lake City is still there I hope?) or move a game to Sunday. But I this would have to be approved.

Interesting to see the officials get a 1 hour skate on Friday & Saturday from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM.

In the mid 2000's, UMass Dartmouth got a bye in the first round and had to go TO Middlebury for the quarterfinals because they didn't put in a bid to host the Quarterfinals.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Isn't it a moot point if the Cardinal women lose? Then the semis would go to the next highest remaining seed, wouldn't they?

So this is all idle (and useless) speculation until after this weekend:D :p

This coming from the one who was more concerned about Amherst and their lack of fans.... :p

Plattsburgh isn't the #1 team in the Nation for no reason, it's called probable speculation and planning. That would be a great idea to not think about things until around 9:30pm Saturday night....smart move, then again this is Plattsburgh.

The administration have already worked all this out. We're just looking for something (speculate) to do until Saturday night. Plus, it's a great problem to have to worry about too much hockey for a weekend!

Exactly why it was a bad idea to give us Plattsburgh fans a bye week. Too much time (for us non Tax people) on our hands. LoL I'm sure they have a plan and have contacted the committee and teams ect ect and don't want to make an official statement until post St . Thomas out of respect for the Tommy's or is it Tina's?? I'm waiting for our pretty reliable '81 source to come out with something .

Wasn't trying to start a d3 vs uscho debate. If I could take the D3 reporting and the USCHO Fan Forum and put them together...perfect. Sad part is, USCHO had the same reporting option available to them, but yea instead we get Plattsburgh playing the winner of OSU/Hobart next weekend....

Anyways, as I posted in the other thread....could be cause for concern for Plattsburgh State Men's Hockey fans.....

From the NCAA Championship Handbook:

and also for more bad news come that weekend:

For the Men:

For the Women:

So on Saturday there wouldn't be 2 hours available for both Men's teams to practice and play before the consolation game of the women's tournament. Something is going to have to give. I don't see the NCAA and/or any of the women's teams giving up practice time to let the men play, and rightfully so.

Will the NCAA's allow a Sunday game for the men? Will Trinity allow a Sunday game? Did Trinity put in a bid to host a preliminary game? Will Plattsburgh end up being forced to ship off to Trinity?

Weather PPD the Bowdoin - Oswego game last year. IIRC that side of the bracket got pushed back a day. So I would think it's possible.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

2 weeks off for the birds, will it help or hurt??

I think they'll be alright. I wouldn't want more than that, but I don't think it'll affect them. Trinity will find out - they needed to play in the first round not to have three weeks off! I don't think I'd want that. Although every team does that in December, right?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Good point about all teams do it in December. Cards will be having a spirited inter-squad sometime over the weekend. On another note, let's assume Spencer Finney were cleared to play in goal. Would Plattsburgh be tempted to start him? It certainly gives them a second option that's proven.

Considering I just got done watching Ryan Hubbard play as a starter on attack for the Lacrosse team, I think it's safe to say Emery's not too worried about the possibility of HIM getting hurt and being unable to start :p

Roleau certainly gave me confidence that he can play in a big game. Finney hasn't played since January 17th (although he was dressed for the SUNYAC final, so I'm sure he's been cleared to play). I think he'd have to really blow away the coaches over the next two weeks to get the start now. Captain Obvious alert: one thing's for sure, Emery will start whoever he thinks gives the Cardinals the best chance to win.

I don't suppose Steve Moffat's club is available for some scrimmaging, are they?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

The Coach of the Year went to Plattsburgh's Bob Emery. In his 26th season at the helm of the Plattsburgh program, he led the Cardinals to a 13-2-1 conference record and the SUNYAC tournament championship crown, its first since 2012. The SUNYAC title was the program's 22nd in its history. This is the seventh time Emery has been honored as the SUNYAC Coach of the Year. The Cardinals will head into the NCAA Division III tournament with an automatic bid

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Told ya

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA® Division III Women's Ice Hockey Committee has announced that hosting duties for the semifinals and finals, which is the NCAA's only non-predetermined championship site, will be awarded to the top remaining seed following the quarterfinal round this Saturday night.

As the top overall seed on the women's side, Plattsburgh State University will serve as host of the finals in its Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena if it posts a win against the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) in the quarterfinals. Elmira College would be next in line to serve as host in its Murray Athletic Center should the Cardinals not advance and the soaring Eagles win their quarterfinal contest.

Due to scheduling constraints for practice and game time conflicts that would involve Plattsburgh's men's and women's teams and their opponents, Plattsburgh's men's team will travel to the winner of the Trinity (Connecticut) College and Nichols College first-round contest should the top seed Plattsburgh State women's team advance in its quarterfinals contest. If the Plattsburgh State women's team does not advance, the Plattsburgh State men's team will host its quarterfinal game.

In the other men's quarterfinals, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host Hamline University; Adrian College will host the winner of Saturday's first-round game between Hobart College and SUNY Oswego; and Amherst College will host the winner of the first-round game between Norwich University and Plymouth State University.

The semifinals and final of the Division III men's tournament will be held at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis on the campus of the University of Minnesota, March 27-28.
