Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

I am certain that site surveys and preliminary estimates were created for discussion within the Master Plan and it is my understanding (though not certain) that any decision on expansion is tied to the life of the ice making equipment - which is reaching its maximum life expectancy.

Correct there was a 3 step plan at the first draft. Part was to blow out the end wall and make it full seating. My point is, instead of shelling out millions to basically make some cute comfy seats, shaving till they had the full funds would have been smarter. Now to increase ice size (which as I said has been echoed several times) they will have to rip up what they've already paid to make....

Let's not forget, though, the first change to the seating was not elective surgery. The classic bleachers were rightfully condemned and required replacement. The lighting in the place was becoming depressing and the center scoreboard was so low that legitimate clearing passes were hitting it nightly. (If you have any doubt about how poor lighting can affect the game and the experience, watch a game in Elmira. The ECAC W championship looked like it was being played in a parking lot at midnight.) The renovations weren't perfect, but not bad for a state school. (I have purposely blocked out the whole scoreboard experience!)

Getting back to hockey, have to give props to the Hardhattian's and the whole Cardinal Country for bringing it Saturday night. That was by far one of the loudest post bleacher era games I've been to.

While my poor planning forced me to watch it at HDMI Arena, it was very evident that the place was LOUD, be it the Hard Hattians or those pesky Oswego PITAS it was nice to hear.

Same situation, same thoughts. My dad was there, and said he hadn't felt that kind of energy in the building in years. Wish I could have made it.

PSU men, women to host NCAA quarterfinal game - {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 3/10/2015}

INDIANAPOLIS — The Plattsburgh State men’s and women’s hockey teams learned their NCAA tournament draw by way of a Selection Show on NCAA.com Monday.

Stafford Ice Arena will play host to two NCAA quarterfinal games March 14 and 21.

MEN

The NCAA announced its 11-team Division III men’s ice hockey tournament with the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team receiving a first-round bye.

The Cardinals (20-5-2) will host the winner of Trinity, Conn., (21-3-1) or Nichols (21-3-3) at Stafford Ice Arena at 7 p.m. March 21.

The other two first-round matchups feature SUNY Athletic Conference rival Oswego (18-4-4) at Hobart (21-6-0) and Plymouth State (16-8-3) at Norwich (24-3-1).

All three first-round games are scheduled for Saturday.

Plattsburgh received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the SUNYAC championship over Oswego 2-1 Saturday.

The Cardinals return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012, marking their 21st NCAA appearance and 17th under coach Bob Emery.

The Plattsburgh department of intercollegiate athletics will not issue ticket information until Monday, March 16. A complete ticket policy, which includes sale dates and ticket prices, will be available at that time.

WOMEN

The NCAA announced its eight-team Division III women’s ice hockey tournament with the Plattsburgh State women's hockey team hosting St. Thomas, Minn., (14-9-4) in the NCAA quarterfinals at Stafford Ice Arena at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The complete bracket for the 2015 NCAA Division III women's ice hockey tournament features three other quarterfinal matchups, which include Norwich (21-4-3) at Middlebury (20-4-3), Lake Forest (14-8-3) at Wisconsin River-Falls (24-3-1) and Trinity, Conn., (18-6-2) at Elmira (24-2-1).

All four quarterfinal games will take place this weekend with the winners advancing to the NCAA semifinals set for March 20.

Plattsburgh enters the tournament with a 23-2-2 overall record and fresh off of its third-consecutive ECAC West title. It’s the fourth-straight NCAA appearance for the Cardinals and 11th overall.

All tickets will go on sale at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, exactly an hour and a half before puck drop. Tickets will be $6 for general admission and $4 for college students with a valid identification.

Payments may be made by cash, check (payable to SUNY Plattsburgh) or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express).

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

SUNYAC – Top-seed Plattsburgh captured its 22nd league tourney title with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph overOswego. Connor Gorman’s goal at 17:27 of the second period proved to be the decisive goal in a contest that saw all the scoring come in the middle stanza. Connor Toomey struck first for the Cardinals at 5:23 before Morgan Bonner answered for Oswego at 11:34. Shots were at a premium, as Cards’ goalie Brady Rouleau stopped 16 of 17, while Matt Zawadzki turned away 20 of 22. Both teams will head to the NCAAs, with Platty receiving a first-round bye and will face the Hobart/Oswego winner. Plattsburgh has earned tourney berths in six of the last eight seasons, while the Lakers will make their sixth appearance in a row and seventh since 2007.

I guess the NCAA doesn't know what they are talking about.... I'm all for journalism, but come on people....its bad enough the Western leagues only get a few sentences....but at least proof read the stats....

I stopped reading anything on USCHO except this board a couple years ago...sad, but true. D3 barely exists here, except for the food fights we start amongst ourselves...

I'm all for a mutiny that causes us all to join the other site's message board. I have an account over there, but there's not much discussion. Matthew Webb's article about the selection process was enlightening!

Edit: Do you think they even monitor our discussions over here any more?

USCHO still has the name and the following for the D3 hockey community though.

I tried this one time, but some dude got really irrationally angry and implied that I had some kind of vested interest in where we gather every weekend to complain about video feed quality. People are really weird on the internet.

Well, they can only live on that reputation for so long. Yes, this is convenient for the forum, but I have long since stopped looked at the DIII webpages for men or women...

I totally agree,Prez. This is THE BOARD. It provides good information and also the best conversation among D 3 posters. We are very much like a hockey family, if you will, who enjoy the season together. I have read the "other" and am not impressed.Just one person's opinion.

I agree completely. Although I did read the Coach Beaney 600 wins article which was the first sign to me that he might be retiring this year.

D3hockey.com has definitely surpassed uscho in terms of D3 coverage. I am thankful however to have this board on uscho and I know MANY coaches and players read it daily/weekly.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

There was an April Fool's article a few years back about the formation of USCHO3 that would provide exclusive access and content for the D-III community.

The following year? d3westhockey.com and the year after d3hockey.com.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2014-15 - Bob's 26th work in progress ...

Wasn't trying to start a d3 vs uscho debate. If I could take the D3 reporting and the USCHO Fan Forum and put them together...perfect. Sad part is, USCHO had the same reporting option available to them, but yea instead we get Plattsburgh playing the winner of OSU/Hobart next weekend....

Anyways, as I posted in the other thread....could be cause for concern for Plattsburgh State Men's Hockey fans.....

From the NCAA Championship Handbook:
For the women’s championship, the third-place game will start at 3:30 p.m. local time Saturday. The championship game for both men and women will start at 7 p.m. (local time) Saturday.

and also for more bad news come that weekend:

For the Men:
Preliminary Rounds. Visiting teams must have access to one hour of practice ice before 9 p.m. the day before competition and one hour of practice ice the day of competition. All practices are closed.

For the Women:
Thursday
10 – 11:30 a.m. Game 1 visitor
11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Game 1 home
1:30 – 3 p.m. Game 2 visitor
3:15 – 4:45 p.m. Game 2 home
The order is subject to change based on team travel and other factors.

Friday
7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Officials
8:45 – 9:45 a.m. Game 1 visitor
10 – 11 a.m. Game 1 home
11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Game 2 visitor
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Game 2 home

Saturday
7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Officials
8:45 – 9:45 a.m. Game 1 visitor
10 – 11 a.m. Game 1 home
11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Game 2 visitor
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Game 2 home

So on Saturday there wouldn't be 2 hours available for both Men's teams to practice and play before the consolation game of the women's tournament. Something is going to have to give. I don't see the NCAA and/or any of the women's teams giving up practice time to let the men play, and rightfully so.

Will the NCAA's allow a Sunday game for the men? Will Trinity allow a Sunday game? Did Trinity put in a bid to host a preliminary game? Will Plattsburgh end up being forced to ship off to Trinity?

JEEPERS !!!! This could breath new life into the "my team was screwed" thread....

I watch way more than one sports channel on TV, I read more than one newspaper's sports page, I shop at more than one grocery store ! What I am trying to say is I use each to get most of what I want. No one entity is perfect !
