Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Does anybody know if we lost more then just the 5 seniors? We had 29 players last year and lost 5 seniors so if nobody transfered then we have 5 recuits now, 3 forwards and 2 defensemen, so adding another defensemen and a goalie would put the roster at 31. They had a number of players that didn't get a whole lot of playing time and they could lose a lot of good players because of no playing time and that could turn into a bad rep. for Plattsburgh when recuiting.
that does seem to be a lot of players on the roster, but from what I remember they came in handy to fill in from a bunch of injuries..

I have a feeling there will be players coming back that will not have guaranteed spots. Also dont be surprised if 1 or 2 players leave for an
opportunity to actual see the ice.

Cards may have picked up a beauty of an offensive defenseman this week. May have. D-1 transfer.

I really think Plattsburgh is going to make a run for a NC, their recruiting seems to be the best of any school this year, though its not over yet

They already have a loaded team returning. I'll peg them as one of the favorites right now for the NC.

have to agree, they have a scary:eek: mix of talent and experience...and a top goalie....and top coach.......and top recruiting class as it looks.....ok thats enough:D

...If the Cards are there and our favorite Hunter Green and Gold team is not, I will gladly put on some Red and root for the Cardinals....Good teams attract good talent which can only help the conference - and we need more good teams and talent in the SUNYAC IMHO - Sure, I want the Lakers to win and be successful, but I am ok with making the conference schedule more of a struggle from top to bottom...I think that's good for all of us.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Sunyac needs to be good enough to win more OOC games.....it hurts us all when they don't. Oswego/Plat can get bumped out because of the OOC woes of the bottom of the conference. Not entirely fair, but that's the reality.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Here is an article about Ducky's history. I believe it is from 2005. He started announcing Cardinal hockey in 1973. As many of you know Ducky's wife passed about a year ago.

I'm confused. I thought Ducky mentioned his wife when I spoke to him before the SUNYAC championship this past March.

If you want a better SUNYAC a better approach is hoping that Geneseo, Fredonia, Potsdam etc. can continue to close the gap down to Oswego/Plattsburgh after they have lengthened it to far reaching proportions over the last 5-8 or so years.

Hopefully Potsdam's newly renovated rink can help attract some new fresh talent there. Geneseo is the class of the SUNYAC when it comes to academics and Fredonia's proximity to Canada, as well as their ability to go out and recruit NAHL and western Canada should pay dividends at some point.

Those are the three teams that IMHO, with the right coaching (not knocking the three current coaches that are there) and school backing should be able to compete with Oswego and Plattsburgh most years.

The depth of the SUNYAC has been the problem and these types of teams have got to win more OOC games in the future against the ECAC West and the New England schools if the SUNYAC is ever going to get two teams in on a consistent basis.

You could say the same thing about the ECAC-E, except it's Norwich and a cast of 9 (or 7).

Not claiming different. Although Norwich will have its hands plenty full trying to make it 16 straight regular season titles this year. UMass Boston will be very good. As will Babson. Castleton is a wildcard as they sustain some heavy losses too and are still looking for that go to goalie.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I've always said that ECAC East and SUNYAC are similar in their composition. A couple of teams on top by a long way.....and then the rest. Trouble is, the bottom dwellers get sky high to play the top teams and then lay down OOC.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

This year they'll be very good. 14-15 they'll be even better.

I sure hope you are right but I think this is the year (13-14) the Cards have to play for the brass ring. Cadieux will be a senior and, while I trust Emery's recruiting, we have to anticipate a letdown in goal in 14-15. Remember the 2 years after Hince w/ Williams and Leis? The team never seemed to fire on all cylinders because they weren't settled in goal. Now if next year (13-14) we see Foley or this new recruit getting some quality time and playing well, then maybe i'd agree that in 14-15 they'll be even better. But for now, i'm predicting this year's team will be the best since 08-09 (notwithstanding its hiccup at the end ...). Go Cards!
