Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Will always see lots of recruits coming in each year. The coaches have to over recruit because without a letter of intent they have no idea who will actually show up. Odds are if P’Burgh is looking at you so are other schools. Players should have a final list of 2-3 schools to decide from

On paper, I like Plattsburgh, Utica and UM-Boston....in that order in the East.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Does anyone know when the season ticket renewals go out? I emailed the school an did not receive a reply I know last year we got them in April.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I sure hope you are right but I think this is the year (13-14) the Cards have to play for the brass ring. Cadieux will be a senior and, while I trust Emery's recruiting, we have to anticipate a letdown in goal in 14-15. Remember the 2 years after Hince w/ Williams and Leis? The team never seemed to fire on all cylinders because they weren't settled in goal. Now if next year (13-14) we see Foley or this new recruit getting some quality time and playing well, then maybe i'd agree that in 14-15 they'll be even better. But for now, i'm predicting this year's team will be the best since 08-09 (notwithstanding its hiccup at the end ...). Go Cards!

Well, actually, the first year after Hince, the Cardinals went to the FF, which was one better than the year before with Hince.

I hear what you are saying but are you really trying to say that 2010 team was better than the 2009 Cardinal squad? That 08-09 PSU team is probably going to go down as one of the best teams in DIII history to not win the title. They were absolutely stacked and if not for a Cinderella upstart run by Neumann and a late uncharacteristic weak goals at the wrong time given up by Hince, PSU probably would have won.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

That '08-09 team was one of the best the Cards ever had. You never know which bunch will win a championship. For instance, I don't think Oswego's National Championship team ('06-07) was necessarily the best team they've ever had. I have seen stronger Oswego teams ('80-81, 'early 2000's, '09-10). The Cards team rode a brilliant goalie all the way in '01....but were they the best team??

I still say the Middlebury teams of the mid 1990's were the best D3 teams I've ever seen. Pick any year during that stretch.

Men's Hockey Announces Team Awards at Annual Break-Up Dinner {per Stephanie Dutton, Plattsburgh Sports Information Director}

Plattsburgh State men’s hockey head coach Bob Emery and assistant coach Steve Moffat recognized five members of the men’s hockey team at the annual break-up dinner held over the weekend.

Freshman forward Dillan Fox was recognized as the team’s most improved player during the 2012-13 season. Fox, who is from Hummelstown, Pa., appeared in 20 games and finished fourth in team scoring with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points. After tallying two assists in five games during the first semester, Fox returned for the second half of the season and provided an offensive spark for the Cardinals down the stretch. He scored his first collegiate goal against Wesleyan on Dec. 28, 2012 and registered at least one point in eight straight games from Jan. 11-Feb.9.

The scholar-athlete award was given to sophomore Michael Cassidy. The forward out of West Seneca, N.Y. is a business administration major who received State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Academic honors as a freshman. On the ice, Cassidy contributed five goals and 15 points in 21 games this season.

Kevin Emmerling was named this year’s recipient of the Mike Daoust Rookie of the Year award. The Northbridge, Mass. native was named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year after scoring 24 points in 23 games with the Cardinals. Emmerling tallied a team-high 14 goals and was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Week three times during the season. He ranked third in team scoring, 15th in conference scoring and averaged 1.04 points per game.

Senior forward Patrick Jobb received the Chester A. Grabowski Award which is given annually to the player who most typifies Plattsburgh State Cardinal Hockey, demonstrating supreme sportsmanship, leadership, hard work and dedication. Jobb saw limited playing time is his final year, appearing in 10 games and scoring two points, but the Oshawa, Ontario native continued to serve as a team leader throughout the course of the season. In four seasons with the Cardinals, Jobb scored 20 goals and 31 assists in 83 games.

Jared Docking was selected as the Cardinals’ most valuable player after driving the offense throughout most of the season. The Toronto, Ontario product enjoyed a career year in his final season at Plattsburgh State, putting up 11 goals and 19 assists for a team-leading 30 points. As the only Cardinal to appear in all 27 games, Docking also played a crucial role on the special teams, scoring five power-play goals and three short-handed goals. He was also a member of the top penalty-kill unit in Division III, which finished the year with an efficiency of 89.8 percent. Docking was a First Team All-SUNYAC honoree and received a spot on the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team. He wraps up his Cardinal career with 23 goals and 54 assists in 95 games.

Nice to see Dakota Mason score a goal in the RBC championship game last weekend and help his team win the tourney. Should be a good pickup :) for the Cards!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Hopefully, Mason is as useful as another native the Cards had back in the mid 80's named Doug Smoke. He was a terrific player (via St. Lawrence) who was one of the fastest players in Cardinal history.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Hey does anyone know when we can or where we can view the 13-14 schedule?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

The schedule usually gets leaked in july or august. Coach Emery likes to keep it under lock and key as long as possible.

Is Plattsburgh going to play a Canadian U team this year or the US under 18 team.
Isn't this a way to get one more game on your schedule? I realize the November 1 start date for games has made it difficult to schedule D1 games.

The canadian exhibition didn't count against the 25-game limit. In practice, it was never truly a game, and more one last chance for the coach to see the guys in action (each goalie played for a period, and EVERYBODY on the roster got ice time. Those who didn't dress for the first period were warming up in the halls to be ready to dress for the 2nd or 3rd). So it was never a game, just a glorified preseason practice.

Coach Emery said on BTB that it would be difficult to do this time around, as the Nov 1 start date meant they would have to look for a team that could come in for a December exhibition. What purpose would that serve for either time, really?

Hopefully legislation is passed for 2014-15 allowing exhibitions before Nov. 1st.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Hopefully legislation is passed for 2014-15 allowing exhibitions before Nov. 1st.

Given that it's the NCAA, I'm not convinced that logic will trump personal agendas and ignorance.

I can see the Nov. 1 start date for regular season games as reasonable. I do think as long as the teams have had a week of practice it wouldn't hurt to permit an exhibition game before Nov. 1. In fact, I'd be all for allowing a game against a DI school to not be counted among the 25 "on-ice appearances. Some of this smacks of "NESCAC-ism"
