Plattsburgh State men’s hockey head coach Bob Emery and assistant coach Steve Moffat recognized five members of the men’s hockey team at the annual break-up dinner held over the weekend.
Freshman forward Dillan Fox was recognized as the team’s most improved player during the 2012-13 season. Fox, who is from Hummelstown, Pa., appeared in 20 games and finished fourth in team scoring with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points. After tallying two assists in five games during the first semester, Fox returned for the second half of the season and provided an offensive spark for the Cardinals down the stretch. He scored his first collegiate goal against Wesleyan on Dec. 28, 2012 and registered at least one point in eight straight games from Jan. 11-Feb.9.
The scholar-athlete award was given to sophomore Michael Cassidy. The forward out of West Seneca, N.Y. is a business administration major who received State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Academic honors as a freshman. On the ice, Cassidy contributed five goals and 15 points in 21 games this season.
Kevin Emmerling was named this year’s recipient of the Mike Daoust Rookie of the Year award. The Northbridge, Mass. native was named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year after scoring 24 points in 23 games with the Cardinals. Emmerling tallied a team-high 14 goals and was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Week three times during the season. He ranked third in team scoring, 15th in conference scoring and averaged 1.04 points per game.
Senior forward Patrick Jobb received the Chester A. Grabowski Award which is given annually to the player who most typifies Plattsburgh State Cardinal Hockey, demonstrating supreme sportsmanship, leadership, hard work and dedication. Jobb saw limited playing time is his final year, appearing in 10 games and scoring two points, but the Oshawa, Ontario native continued to serve as a team leader throughout the course of the season. In four seasons with the Cardinals, Jobb scored 20 goals and 31 assists in 83 games.
Jared Docking was selected as the Cardinals’ most valuable player after driving the offense throughout most of the season. The Toronto, Ontario product enjoyed a career year in his final season at Plattsburgh State, putting up 11 goals and 19 assists for a team-leading 30 points. As the only Cardinal to appear in all 27 games, Docking also played a crucial role on the special teams, scoring five power-play goals and three short-handed goals. He was also a member of the top penalty-kill unit in Division III, which finished the year with an efficiency of 89.8 percent. Docking was a First Team All-SUNYAC honoree and received a spot on the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team. He wraps up his Cardinal career with 23 goals and 54 assists in 95 games.
