Got to put a shout out for a local girls U19 team ...

Chazy Flyers win 19U National Championship; Shamrocks win 16U title {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 4/8/2013}

SAN JOSE, Calif. — It was a tale of two games for the Chazy 19U girls’ hockey team Sunday at the Tier II Girls 19U National Hockey Championships.

First there was a lopsided early game against the East Coast Wizards.

Then there was a double-overtime thriller against the Keweenaw Storm.

Luckily for the Flyers, they penned happy endings to both tales.

Chazy beat the Wizards 5-0 to advance to the championship game against the Storm, then outlasted Keweenaw for the national title, with Kallie Villemarie lifting the Flyers with her third goal of the day and second of the game.

In all, Villemarie ended the day with four points.

Christina Emery got both wins in net for the Flyers. She stopped 47 total shots Sunday.

After a scoreless first period, Chazy flew past the Wizards in the first game with two second-period goals and three third-period goals.

Villemarie, Amanda Peterson, Sydney Battistoni, Clara Giroux and Brooke Reid all scored for Chazy.

In the second game, Chazy looked to keep up that pace, going up 2-0 through the first six minutes of the second period.

But Keweenaw battled back, notching a second-period goal just a minute after Jordynne McDougall put the Flyers up 2-0, and a third-period goal with a little less than eight minutes left.

From there, Emery and Keweenaw goaltender Stephanie King kept both teams off the board for the rest of regulation and then through the first overtime period.

But three-and-a-half minutes into the second overtime, Villemarie handed King and the Storm the loss.

U16 finals

Vermont 4, Potsdam 1

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A couple of North Country teams went at it a long way from home on Sunday in the Tier II Girls 16U National Hockey Championships, and the Vermont Shamrocks captured the national crown with a 4-1 victory over Potsdam.

The Shamrocks, who ended the season with 18 wins in a row, held a 1-0 lead after one period and a 3-1 advantage after two before closing out the scoring late in the contest. The Shamrocks finished with a 6-0 record in the tournament.

Chazy’s Cailee LaPorte and Morrisonville’s Amy LoTemplio played strong defense for Vermont, which got a solid team effort from everyone.

The Shamrocks needed triple overtime early Sunday morning to record a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks in the semifinals.

LaPorte tallied the game-winning goal with 1:58 gone in the third overtime, with LoTemplio getting the assist. The game started at 9:45 p.m. Pacific time and did not end until 12:30 a.m.

Norwich WILL indeed be playing Plattsburgh next year at Kreitzberg on Tuesday Jan. 14.
Super!! Who knows, might even play them twice next season! Totally unrelated, but, saw a few of the guys last night at the mall (Nick, Mike and Chewie), talked about the season past, playoffs and next year etc. They seemed psyched for it already!!!
:D

The other day Ducky advised on an Is It Just Me episode that he is retiring from WIRY. Does anyone know if he will still do Cardinal Hockey? Or wil Rob Knowles be at the helm?

I have been told that Ducky is going to do another year of Cardinal Hockey. After this season I believe it is going to be young Robby Knowles who will be taking over for Ducky. I know it will be the Rob and Rob show for football and other sports.... Robby has been announcing at Airborne since his father passed and has been doing womens hockey games with Rob for the last season or so when his schedule allows it.

Ducky will be missed. I think they should put a jersey on the "wall" for him as well. "Had'em all the way"

lol...or maybe we can get one of the infamous "sweaters" Ducky wears to put up. In all seriousness though, I agree. Ducky's been a part of this program for so long, he deserves a spot on the wall.

how long has Ducky been doing the broadcasts?

Ducky has been the voice of Cardinal hockey games for a very long time and knows Cardinal Country like no other. He will be greatly missed . He deserves a Big Send-off when he decides to leave us. :D

somewhere in the area of 30 years

Here is an article about Ducky's history. I believe it is from 2005. He started announcing Cardinal hockey in 1973. As many of you know Ducky's wife passed about a year ago.

Coach Emery on twitter:

Wonder when Moffat will get a head coaching job. Any program would be happy to have him lead the way. It’s tough living being an asst coach in NCAA DIII. I played with Steve in Jr and against him when I was at EC. I wish him success in everything he does

Coach Emery on twitter:

Does anybody know if we lost more then just the 5 seniors? We had 29 players last year and lost 5 seniors so if nobody transfered then we have 5 recuits now, 3 forwards and 2 defensemen, so adding another defensemen and a goalie would put the roster at 31. They had a number of players that didn't get a whole lot of playing time and they could lose a lot of good players because of no playing time and that could turn into a bad rep. for Plattsburgh when recuiting.
