Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

I'm shocked at this 20th century approach to playoff tickets a the "new" Stafford

Even little Norwich knows how to sell tickets over the internet, and take advance orders by mail for season ticket holders. And Platty is a lot bigger school with the resources of the state of NY behind them :)

Seriously, I'm surprised at that approach. It's not like you didn't have some time to plan this either.

I believe they are planning on selling tickets via the internet in the next few years, however, the program used is rather expensive from what I've heard.

SUNY is slashing budgets faster than Jason Voorhees slashes half-naked co-eds. Don't think we will see this online thing for long time.

Won't matter, by then I will be living in Oswego, NY and have www.LakersHockey.net up and running. :D :p

Update on Ticket Procedures for Men’s Hockey Playoffs

Note, the general public gets a 1/2 hour head start to purchase tickets BEFORE SUNY Plattsburgh students get a chance at getting any:eek:

Brucy at his finest:(

In addition to the previous post:

SUNY Plattsburgh student tickets are available at the Field House Box Office from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on the day of the game, and free to the first 200 students. Otherwise, students pay $3 at the door.

I believe the student tickets are set aside and separate from the ones the general public can buy...it's not like they're being shut out from getting any.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

just curious why the students dont show up??

Basketball is the big sport on campus IIRC and it is a bit of walk to try and get to the rink because it's not really on campus.

I've also heard (again just what I heard) the hockey team isn't well liked on campus, especially by the other sports teams.

I stress just what I have heard! Don't shoot the messenger. I know Birds is probably itching to get a comment in about this;)

----------------------------------------------------------I won't shoot ya! Just a note of interest on this. I think things may have changed now and I am seeing a greater number of students each game and they are actively participating. Last game they gave out t-shirts and car stickers and were chanting during the game. I really do think that there is a different attitude evolving and I like it. Sections next to me were pretty full last week and that is just great!!

This is all true. Alot of students on campus up here are not willing to make the trip up the road in the cold for games. We should get a shuttle bus going, but with the budget the way it is, it would be extremely difficult. Basketball IS the student populations favorite sport. Also, alot of the hockey players are jerks...I see them at frat parties all the time.

I don't see why it would be that difficult. as I've said while talking with many people about, the Student Association provides a shuttle from campus to Walmart, which goes right past the rink, so why not make a stop there on the night of games?

Romney was a ride on a shuttle bus as well at Oswego, , and the students made the trip , a short one but they showed up with bells on..... and other things.....as far as the players being a-holes, well thats on them.........basketball??? I think Ive heard of that...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Speaking of students ...

Applications up at Plattsburgh State: The university is surpassing its enrollment goals and becoming increasingly more selective.

THE NUMBERS
A total of 1,245 students applied for undergraduate admissions for spring 2010, a 6-percent increase over 2009.

Out of those, the university accepted 564 students, lowering its acceptance rate from 52.9 percent to 45.3 percent.

The university yielded 397 deposits, or 70 percent, compared to 65.9 percent the year before.

Graduate admissions for spring 2010 included 119 applications, up 9.2 percent from the year before. Of those, 88 students were accepted and 85 made deposits, for a yield rate of 96.6 percent.

Goals for the spring 2010 enrolling class included 20 freshmen, 200 transfers, 80 re-admits and 30 graduates. Actual deposits were 28 freshmen, 264 transfers, 105 readmits and 36 graduates.

MAJORS
The top five majors for the new undergraduate spring 2010 freshmen class were criminal justice, business, undeclared, psychology and childhood education.

The majority of students were in-state, with 13 out of state and 32 international.

The top five graduate programs for new students were curriculum and instruction, adolescence education, educational leadership, literacy and mental-health counseling, with in-state students largely making up the spring 2010 group.

Applications at Plattsburgh State have increased over the past five years, with the university now accepting fewer than half of applicants.

"We have become more selective," Higgins, director of admissions and associate vice president for enrollment management said. "That is a fact."

"But you should never think you've got it all figured out because the marketplace can change."

Yes, there are 200 free tickets set aside for students, so why full up the already congested lobby, true, any left over can quickly be turned over for general public sales, and forcing the students to show up at the venue means they will probably use them. As has been noted above, students have a significant winter hike should they want to go, now they have to wonder, "Will I get a ticket" if I make the hike? This is what I see as the primary motivator, then chance to increase revenue be selling the student tickets (I give only slim credence to the idea that they don't want the seats empty, this is a championship round, and possibly the last home game of the season). As I said, Brucey at his finest.

I would assume that the school purchased those tickets for the students - usually students have to pay for playoff tickets regardless of in-season rules. I don't know if that's the way it works in the SUNYAC, but that's the way it goes in the Interlock. Sometimes a school will pay to buy a block of student tickets and distribute them in some way or another. The only thing that I don't see making sense is the timing. Seems like If they wanted students there they'd make sure that students could buy tickets once the free supply was gone. If students don't make the trek from campus to the Stafford, I understand the idea of distributing them at the venue, it's just the what if they run out scenario that doesn't make sense.

I'm not positive about 2006, but I know that every SUNYAC playoff game (and NCAA game) played in the Campus Center have not been free for students. I think it's usually only 2 or 3 bucks, however that was quite a deterrent for the semifinal game in 2007 against Fredonia. I think the only other time I've seen so few students in the student section was during the Pathfinder Tournament in '08, which was over Winter Break.

Prez and I have talked about this countless times: make the first 200, 300, 500, or whatever student tickets free to create a demand for them. With the CC being smack in the middle of campus, there isn't the deterrent of a long trek.

IMO, it is all about an effort to show “brilliance” in finding ways to make a few bucks.

Regular Season Ticket prices:
Men's hockey ticket prices are $4 for a regular-season game, $7 for Oswego game (Dec. 5), $10 for Opening Day Ceremonies (Oct. 25 vs. Elmira), $12 per day for the Cardinal Classic (Jan. 2-3), $110 for reserved season seat and rail position and $400 for VIP (includes two reserved seats, hospitality room and media guide). Fans can also identify their favorite seat with a name plate attached for a one-time donation of $250.

SUNYAC TOURNAMENT INFORMATION ICE HOCKEY (MEN) Ticket Policy: (page 70 of 176)
Tickets: Adults - $5.00 per night, students - $2.00 per night.
High School students - $3.00. Courtesy tickets--4 competing colleges - 12 passes (to be used as institution desires) Two passes to each game official, if requested. If host charges more during season for games, use the host team's price for admission. No Complimentary Tickets.

Brucey’s Ticket Policy:
2010 SUNYAC Men's Hockey Tournament Tickets (General Public)
Plattsburgh will host a semifinal round game on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Stafford Ice Arena. Reserved-seat tickets for the general public will be $6 each and available on game day only, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets were NEVER $6, but yet again in attempt to make a relatively meaningless amount of money (<$2000 based on seating capacity), Brucey chooses to tap into the students for an extra buck and invents a new general admission policy. My hero

This is true of SUNY schools in general. With the way the economy is, state schools are attracting more and more students...

...and (if what I see on WPTZ is true), getting less and less state funding. An odd confluence if ever there was one.
