Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

...

What do I do? I'm trying for more student awarness. I spread the word and notify as many of my fellow students as possible when upcoming game dates are, times, etc. I'm pretty vocal at the hockey games. IMO, hockey is the best sport in the world and their is nothing else that could get me more excited than a Plattsburgh State hockey game... I'm supportive as can be. Comments, your thoughts, suggestions?

Perseverance and Keep up the effort, it will get better, despite Brucey's "best" efforts

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

What I saw last night from PHS/Beekmantown students in terms of participation was phenomenal! Chants going back and forth to the opposing crowd, it was a loud enviroment and as a hockey fan I was lovin' it.

What factors have hurt Plattsburgh Hockey for crowd participation/interest?
-Loss of the Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
-Our ***** of an A.D stripping horns (noise makers) and making the place just as quiet as a funeral home during the games.
-Average age of a Plattsburgh Hockey attendee: Middle to late 40's? They are so nonchalant and have no ambition to even stand up when the team comes out on the ice or scores.
-Location of the rink. Students don't want to hike up the road in the cold North Country weather. Just a little walk and they can go watch PSU Basketball. When I was at the the basketball game against Brockport last Thursday Night there was something like 847 people. If I could take a guess...5/8th's of that place consisted of students.
-Yes, the students are to blame too. How do you have the 4th best Division III hockey team in America and most of your student population doesn't even know that? And when they do come to the game, it's going to take a brave three or four of them to get chants going (timeouts, end of close game situation).

Now if we had the old Staff and packed 3,500 people for that game vs 'Wego in November would we be talking about this right now? I GIVE Oswego MAD PROPS, because the CC has taken over as the premire crowd in our SUNYAC Conference. Getting 1,700 students to your games is unheard of. I'm supportive as can be. don't we do this every weekend that we're on the road? and when we're at home we do the best we can, but we can't force people to cheer. face it, the stafford as we knew it is dead. with the comfy new seats and the blind, deaf and dumb admin that we have now we'll never get the atmosphere we used to get even 2 years ago. the high school game was great, noise, chants, standing fans and heaven forbid I heard a couple noise makers.... brucey would have thrown a fit and asked people to sit down and be quiet!

Yes, we do! Let's just focus on the playoffs right now. What I'm saying is that this should be our main concern at this time.

It will be interesting for sure. :D What is the over/under on the number of games before your banned from the rink? :p

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

You can't get banned for just being loud and getting people into a game. You don't need swear words to ****** people off.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

They need to let me run the music at the rink. *evil grin*

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

Anyone else notice what Coach Emery said on Behind the Bench Monday Night? Only two (2) Pool C bids will be awarded next year.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

We had 71 teams last season with 3 pool c bids.

So...unless someone else is dropping hockey and hasn't announced it, I don't see what changes for next year?

Is that new Mass. league getting an autobid perhaps?

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey - 2009/2010

That would do it, if they are to maintain an 11-team format. (or eliminate Pool B).

The only math on this that would make sense is that we go back to 10 teams, because the early bump up to 11 teams was predicated on knowing that UNE would be added, and now that LVC is subtracted we'd go back to 10. The other possibility would be keeping pool B and giving an autobid to the MASCAC - or some other explanation. Help crack reporter staff, investigate this

Another possibility is that Emery is wrong, but since Delventhal is on the committee that seems unlikely.

Pool B will be eliminated.

You need a certain amount of teams in pool B consideration for a bid to be given out, and that number cannot be under 7.

If Pool B is eliminated, that would add a Pool C slot to replace the one that is eliminated when the MASCAC gets its Pool A slot. In any case, that shouldn't happen until the 2011-2012 season, unless the NCAA is doing some funny counting, because the waiting period is 2 years. If the NCAA does "funny counting" the MCHA would be upset because they had to wait more than two years to get their autobid.

The access ratio for Pool B is the number of Pool A teams divided by the number of Pool A bids, which is guaranteed to be at least 7. The number of Pool B slots is the number of Pool B teams divided by the access ratio, rounded down, which means no chance at a Pool B slot unless there are more than 7 Pool B teams.

Well, it wouldn't add a pool C slot really. There would still be 3, along with 8 pool A bids, and 0 pool B bids. The MASCAC getting an autobid and removing themselves from Pool B would elminate any pool B bids being handed out, while keeping the # of pool C bids the same.

But this won't happen next year, like you said. It's after 2 years of waiting that you get recognized as a league and given the autobid. So I'm still confused why Emery would say we're only having 2 pool C bids next year.

The fun thing about the access ratio is that for hockey at least, there aren't a bunch of independent teams floating around, just 1-2 whole leagues that just don't have seven teams So even if the access ratio was 8, odds are if there were 7 teams eligible for pool B, they'd all be in the same conference.

An interesting tweak of the access ratio is that if the ecac-w somehow gets 2-3 more teams to join, it's possible that even though they have to wait two years for an autobid, they'd have enough teams not eligible for an autobid that there would be a pool b bid, with only the ecac-w eligible, so a defacto autobid.
