Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

Re: Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

Unless McQueary lied under oath in grand jury testimony, we already know what he saw. He saw a kid getting molested and walked away from the scene. What he has to say now is insignificant to what he should have been saying/doing back when this happened.

I don't see why this is so hard for some people to understand. There is no possible justification for walking away.

When the guy writing the check for the whole thing has reiterated his commitment to it, I'm not sure why there is even much debate about "if" Penn State joins the BTHC.

Because some people can't let go of their hope that the BTHC falls on it's face.

Doubt it. I am sure the Big Ten teams would stick together at this point. I think this is an exercise it futility though.
Yes, I was playing the What if game. I'm glad you took what I posted as questions and not statements. I was figuring I would get an Arse ripping. :D

This. There is no excuse for walking away. None.

I agree 100%! When I first heard he told Paterno about abuse I didn't realize what he had seen. I thought this guy walked into the shower and he saw touchy touchy and the guy stopped,. then he told Paterno and then Paterno told the persident and he wasn't allowed with kids on campus. Now the cops still should have been called, but that is way different than what the article says happened! How could you let a kid get raped and do nothing about it? This whole thing makes me want to puke!

Re: Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

The Penn State story is an awfully sad one. If you read the grand jury summary you'll be amazed at the magnitude of the cover-up/inaction at this institution. Will it effect the hockey program? Doubtful.

Re: Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

Will definitely impact the hockey program. No AD and the athletic program likely in shambles for some time will hurt recruiting , as will Penn St national image. Gadowsky now probably sorry he left Princeton.

ESPN.com is reporting that he may have "whistleblower protection.''

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...rotection-reporting-sandusky-alleged-incident

Protected as a whistleblower doesn't not absolve him from being a gutless coward. What about the fact that he watched a young, defenseless boy get raped and then fled the scene is not registering with you?

If I were him, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Sandusky is a monster, but this guy is a coward. Do the right thing and ****ing resign.

My questioning has zero to do with the hopes it flops.. zero. I think many, myself included just have some legit questions as to what may happen..

Re: Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

Agreed.

You'd think a high school wrestling coach could administer a "beatdown," yet he too, did nothing. Is he a coward also? Seems like we're going to hear about lots and lots of people who saw something, did nothing and are all "cowards" according to the experts on USCHO.

Now if there is a silver lining to come out of all of this, maybe people who have witnessed other "odd" behavior will come forward and report it to the police. Because it sure seems to me that a lot of people have witnessed stuff like this and buried their heads in the sand.

This is going to be a huge mess for the Courts and the umpteen victims, lawyers etc to sort through, criminal court to start things off then onto civil court...

I dont think or I wouldn't think along the lines that Penn State anything is out of the woods, hockey or otherwise.. jmo

When you read the grand jury account it sounds to me like he did everything he should have. It was the people above him that didn't act and lied under oath. Even went so far as to say that McQueary's account to them didn't mention the severity of the situation. Regarding the hockey program. I think when it is all said and done the impact will be small. The house cleaning will undoubtedly result in the football program being smaller than it has been in a long time. May take some time, but in the end I expect the impact won't be as bad it might seem right now. That leaves room for a new program to emerge without the giant shadow.

Lots of misinformation in the press. Read the grand jury account instead of listening to idiots in the press tell their version. http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/Presentment.pdf

Re: Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

If PSU were to take the University of Chicago path and demphasize athletics, the first thing the B1G would do is go out and add a 12th team. If that school has hockey, problem solved. If they stay at 5, the question will be which schools would they try and add to get to a viable conference. No one would want to join them because they would just get the boot when one of the other B1G schools wanted to add hockey. So, would they play as a 5 team conference without an autobid or break up and try to reform the old wcha and ccha? Maybe join with the wccha to form 2 conferences leaving the NCHC teams out of it? Anyone think that teams wouldn't bail from the NCHC in that case? What type of assurance would those teams need? It's any interesting thought exercise because the probability of that happening is very small.
