Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

Re: Penn State scandal and its effect on the rising hockey program

I for one am reserving judgment on McQueary, at least for the time being. Rest assured, there many more shoes to drop. However, I do believe that there was a reason why McQueary wasn't summarily dismissed along with the President, VP, AD and JoePa, and I'm expecting that questions will be raised about what did law enforceent agencies at various levels know and when did they know it. Let's also remember that the DA who had jurisdiction in that part of the world suddenly went missing shortly after the 2002 incident. I don't know if this has a bearing on the situation or is pure coincidence.

Aside from the alleged atrocities perpetrated on the victims, the overriding issue is whether or not athletic programs at BCS universities, or at least the obscene amounts of money they generate, have become bigger than the universities themselves, and therefore operate arrogantly and beyond accountability. I'm guessing most of us on these boards already know the answer.

Another "Wow" moment.

One of Sandusky's adopted sons might have triggered the investigation.

"Gov. Tom Corbett took the case on a referral from the Centre County district attorney, Michael Madeira, in early 2009 while he was serving as attorney general.

Tuesday, Madeira told The Associated Press that his conflict of interest was that fact that his wife's brother is Sandusky's adopted son."

The Sanduskys had six adopted children, five boys and a girl. They also took in Foster children before they adopted the children.

I hold off judgement as well but why are you limiting this to BCS universities? Granted money would be one reason for protection but just the face of most universities wants to be saved and looked at cleanly. Save for a few such as Miami, and probably OSU, other SEC schools as their fever it there regardless. I would say ANY university that is remote and the only game in town so to speak, that has some built up athletic program that needs protecting would be in the same boat.

This one seems like a lie by the accuser. The timing seems odd. But we will see how it plays out
You just don't know what to believe, but it seems a little rough for a University to say to the victim, "So you say you were molested? Prove it to us."

I will say this, what is a college team doing taking ball boys on overnight road trips?

The victim makes the allegation, Syracuse doesn't find any evidence but doesn't turn the matter over to the police.

If true, does Boeheim lose his job?

"The Syracuse police chief was Dennis Duval, a former Syracuse basketball player. Duval, who retired in 2004, could not be reached for comment. He played at Syracuse from 1971 to 1974 and started with the Syracuse Police Department in 1978. Boeheim became the head coach at Syracuse in 1976, but began as a graduate assistant in 1969."
