Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

According to the IIHF website, the US is scheduled for the early semifinal Friday (3 PM EST, 2PM Central) while Canada (again) gets the 8:30/7:30 timeslot.

If the US and Russia advance today, any chance they swap those timeslots, so the Russia-Sweden game could be shown in prime-time in Europe, and USA-Finland in the evening in the US?

Irrelevant. Regardless of the outcome today, Canada will advance :p

Wouldn't that PO all the people who are there and have bought tix for a particular game?

Assuming of course that most tickets were gobbled up prior to the completion of the group games, I don't think it matters since no one would know in advance of the elimination round games which teams would be participating in which game.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

The organizers had to decide: **** off 18,000 Canadians who bought tickets to watch the late game tonight, or **** off the other 30 million Canadians that don't want to stay up until 3am to watch the game on TV.

If the game isn't over at 5, NBC will stick with it because it's only 5...they wouldn't be cutting into the 6-8 block unless this thing goes to an endless shootout. Even though they're running most things on delay, the prime time coverage goes until well after midnight on the east coast, even though they're slated to go off at 12. The news anchors tell people to tune in to the 11pm news "after Olympic coverage."

I doubt NBC will shift coverage. US Hockey has become ratings gold (however, this game isnt in prime-time so we'll see). MSNBC drew 8.22 million viewers for US vs. Canada. To put that in perspective, CTV's ratings for the game was 10.66 million and VS. drew around 1.25 million viewers for its Stanley Cup coverage last season. If your casual viewer saw that US vs. Canada game, I dont know how you wouldnt be hooked and tune in today (unless you work like normal people).

Seriously? You don't think they'd pre-empt a Swedish-British curling match for the last 8 minutes of hockey involving the US?

They might, however it also totally wouldn't surprise me if they moved it elsewhere. Remember, this is NBC we're talking about here;)

does anyone know of a site that would have live updates that are NOT video-related? like a live box score?

I think watching streaming video online is like waving a red flag in front of a bull for our IT people. :)

edit: <a href="http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?p=4650684#post4650684">score update thread </a> maybe?

I don't have the IT problem, but I have a feeling if my boss catches me, it would be a major issue.

There are some live blogs you can find that work pretty well. I did that for the women's semi-final.

I saw the video a long time ago before it became huge on YouTube but i was unware that he and his dad were involved with the 2010 team.

Really cool story that he gave this year's team the speech before the Canada game and that they all signed his jersey.

That jersey is going to be worth some money if this team wins the Gold! (Regardless it will be whether they win it or not...but still)

I wish I could watch the streaming video...I don't have the boss problem, he's 3 states away, but my cube is right next IT's area, so even if they don't figure out that I'm hogging a whole bunch of bandwidth, they can turn their head and see that I'm watching a video. :p

I just kinda figured that this thread would be like an update thread, but using a separate score update thread would work too.

Hint: Don't go to the Yahoo! sports main page. You'll have an event spoiled for you. Ah well, life goes on.

I have enough trouble keeping up with this thread, I figured a separate one would be better. :)

This year is actualy the first time I've watched men's hockey at the Olympics since Lillehammer.

I think I saw the same thing on another site...
Oh, well, I'm going to be watching the Russia-Canuckistan game tonight, and that can't get spoiled.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

I know the answer is "NBC sucks" but....

Tape delaying this game on the west coast. Why? What group of people would want to watch this game at 3 instead of 12? Either way they're at work, but if it starts at 12 we can go out and have an extended lunch like during March Madness. I just don't get it.

Ah man, I wanted to wait until watching SportsCenter tonight to learn that Livan Hernandez re-signed with the Nationals!

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Sweet, you don't need an account for the game!

Now I just need to not get caught by my boss....
