Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

I decided that I'm not going to try to watch the game on tape delay, I'll just follow it online, hopefully people are posting updates here. By the time I get home, I'll want to watch the Canada-Russia game, and wouldn't have time to watch the US game.

Exactly why I won't be able to watch the US game until tomorrow. So if anyone IS watching it live, updates would definitely be appreciated.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

My guess is it will stay on NBC and they'll push the news back and cancel whatever they have in the 7-8 hour before the prime time olympics.

Forever an optimist. NBC doesn't get it.

Doubtful. The local affiliates hate giving up time in their 6-8 PM EST block.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Hopefully somebody can help me out.

I'm recording the USA/Swiss game due to other commitments. Is NBC really going to show this game in 2 hours? (No, of course not). Where is the most likely place it will get moved to, or will they continue on NBC? MSNBC is already slated to host Sweden/GB curling tie breaker, CNBC has Mad Money, and USA has 9 hours of NCIS from 1pm to 10pm here, not sure about everywhere else.

Whiskey Tengo Foxtrot, NBC.

There are no commercial breaks during Olympic hockey. If NBC wants to take a break, that's fine but play will go on without them. I think the USA games (all Olympic games?) produced by MS/C/NBC/USA have been commercial-free. So if the game is slated to start at 3 (noon local) then it may very well end by 5.

NBC covered the afternoon game on Sunday...how long did that take?

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

I'm an idiot for not running a phone line to my Direct TV DVR. I could adjust my recordings as needed had I done that. I may have to run home to make sure I'm recording the right thing (would have been smart to record both channels too). :o

Hockey games rarely are done in 2 hours, even without tv timeouts. Most college games I goto that start at 7 last until 9:15 or 9:30.

The game will probably be a little more than halfway through the 3rd by the time their 2-hour block closes. It's anyone's guess where those last 8 minutes or so will air. My guess is MSNBC.

If they shift at the end of the third, people will riot in the streets. RIOT!!!

Okay, maybe not. But they'll be ****ed.

So, you're saying that it is exactly what NBC will do?

And they'll break from the game to cover the Riot, which will only get some poor sap from a local NBC affiliate ripped apart by the mob.

Good games by Latvia, Belarus and Norway.

I did want to see Norway win because Vikingstad and Zuccarello Aasen are cool names. Almost as cool as Veneegoor of Hesselink.

If the game isn't over at 5, NBC will stick with it because it's only 5...they wouldn't be cutting into the 6-8 block unless this thing goes to an endless shootout. Even though they're running most things on delay, the prime time coverage goes until well after midnight on the east coast, even though they're slated to go off at 12. The news anchors tell people to tune in to the 11pm news "after Olympic coverage."

MSNBC is already covering mens curling tiebreaker between Sweden and Great Britain though. CNBC has Mad Money in the NYC area, and USA is doing NCIS all day, so maybe one of them would pick it up instead, don't know.

A Latvian upset would have been monstrous.

As for Norway... I was hoping they'd get it done, if only so I could finally use the word "Norgasm" in some sort of context.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

According to the IIHF website, the US is scheduled for the early semifinal Friday (3 PM EST, 2PM Central) while Canada (again) gets the 8:30/7:30 timeslot.

If the US and Russia advance today, any chance they swap those timeslots, so the Russia-Sweden game could be shown in prime-time in Europe, and USA-Finland in the evening in the US?

Wouldn't that PO all the people who are there and have bought tix for a particular game?

1) Judging by all the Canada fans at the qualifying game last night, I'm guessing a lot of these tickets are being held until the teams are slotted.
2) If you bought a ticket for "semi-final #1" they could still honor the ticket, just switch the times.

There is precedent however. The Canada/Russia game was initially slated to be the 1230am game tonight, however its been moved to primetime.

But they had no compunction switching today's game to a better slot for the Canadian viewers.

Seriously? You don't think they'd pre-empt a Swedish-British curling match for the last 8 minutes of hockey involving the US?
