Paris Olympics

US is… actually controlling this game? Did not expect that.
I wouldn't say controlling but definitely even at least. Well organized in defense (having Zimmerman and Robinson there definitely helps), frustrating France into long shots and crosses. Able to generate some chances too.

Solid start.

I think France will come out swinging in the 2nd half. They are the ones coming into this with the nerves and likely it took them all 45 minutes to shake them.

Well that game was always penciled in as a loss. The next two against New Zealand and Guinea are the real matches.

They didn’t play terribly, just got unlucky hitting the post and crossbar and that offside goal.

Congratulations to the men’s rugby sevens teams from Japan, Samoa, Kenya, and Uruguay. Your Olympics are now over. Please enjoy the opening ceremony.

US up 3-0 at the half, but should probably be up 6 or 7 to nil. Missed some easy chances and Zambia has been playing with 10 the last 15 minutes.

Finished 3-0. It’ll be interesting to see how the USWNT does against Australia and Germany. A lot bigger margin of error though in the women’s tournament given that two third place teams move on.

(On that note, why hasn’t the women’s tournament been expanded to 16 teams like the men’s tournament?)

3-0 US wins. That was somewhat disappointing. Missed some chances early in the game but it was still an onslaught of offense. Then had nowhere near the same energy or amount of chances in the second half despite being up a player.

On the plus side, it is nice to see the US Soccer internet crazies have similarly wild takes on the women’s side as they do on the men’s side.

Was this the first match with the new coach? If anything, they didn’t bury their chances, but they generated a lot. Not ideal, but still good.
