Paris Olympics

Not a great day for the basketball teams. The men need a late layup from LeBron to beat South Sudan 101-100, a team they were favored by 44 against. The women just lost to the WNBA All Stars 117-109.

My nephew bet the under. Seriously. He said there was no way in an exhibition game they were going to cover the spread. He told me it was the easiest bet he ever made.

We're now only a couple of days out. Opening games for soccer start on Wednesday including US v France.

I hope he carries it with the Tommie Smith salute. The 80 million worst Americans would have a hemorrhagic stroke.

I enjoyed watching Rugby at the Olympics. Sort of disappointed to see that they are hosting most of the tournament before the opening ceremonies and will award medals for the Men on Sat. 07/27. There was a lot of entertainment value here despite not knowing much more than "Carry the ball across your opponent's end line before getting tackled".

Looks like it's because of stadium availability as they want to use Stade de France. Still, kinda lame.

This is a sport that really got a lot of exposure thanks the NBCSN, and now does not. They regularly put up the Rugby 7's tournaments all over the place- which were fun and fast games. I haven't seen one on TV for a long time. 7's are a lot easier to deal with the normal rugby, as far as I'm concerned.

We’re off and running with Argentina and Morocco in soccer.

Kinda weird seeing a high profile soccer without the electronic advertising boards on the sidelines.

On the Winter side of things, 2030 will go to the French Alps, and 2034 will go back to SLC, Utah.

Pretty sure they were the only applicants, so we're now fully into the era of rotating between just a couple of recurring venues.

Not surprised. Compared to the Summer Olympics, the Winter Olympics might as well be a tax write-off. Especially with the US Figure Skating program largely in shambles for the last decade.

Canadian women’s soccer team is in some trouble. New Zealand reported them for sending drones over practice on Friday and Monday. They’ve sent an analyst and assistant coach home and the head coach has suspended herself for the opening game.

Where the **** did the Canadians get money for drones?

Interesting ending to that game. Two hour delay to play the last min, and during the break, the tying Arg goal was called back for offsides. just odd.

To summarize:

15 minutes of stoppage (we’re back to FIFA guidelines on stoppage time)

Argentina scores to tie 2-2 at 90+16.

Moroccan fans invade pitch. Match suspended.

After two hour delay, match is resumed and goal is called back via VAR for offside.

Match resumed and Morocco eventually wins 2-1.

Also, not a good sign for security. A bit concerning since Israel is playing in the Men’s soccer tournament.
