So Jordan Chiles now has to give the medal back. What a mess. This is all a judging issue IMO. They judged her wrong initially. They realized their mistake, corrected it, she moved into third. I think they judged the Romanian incorrectly as well. Nadia Comaneci pushed for a review of her routine (she was dinged for stepping out and it appears she did not). And this four seconds late is so ridiculous. They should just give them both a medal. I hate the story of they wanted an All Black podium was the reason for giving Jordan the medal.
No opinion about that what so ever. That's fact.
First, the judges are the ones who originally missed Chiles' moves to get the points. Then they mess up and accepted the late change. And now, instead of doing what the original impacted player's team suggested to award both bronzes, they can't accept they made multiple mistakes. Let alone if the idea that the last event only gets one min to challenge when every other get 4. That's absurd.
What a clown show.
The only reason I watched gymnastics this year is to see what Biles would do, because she does so much more than anyone else. If anything toward the organization- thank god they changed the rules to add degree of difficulty in to the score- so that we get to see athletes willing to take chances on spectacular moves.
But at some point, it may become every one doing the one big trick over an over again- which is why I don't find any of the judged X games entertaining. Or diving- since they all do the same thing. And the announcers don't bother to point out why someone is better than the other.
Or worse when they question the judging. Sounds like a lot of people were unhappy with the boys break outcome because of that.
One more rant- refs also make game hard, too- that final between Brazil and US had some really questionable calls. But players seem more used to it than the fans, and they know they occasionally beat the refs as well as the other team. Still better to watch team handball than diving.
