Paris Olympics

I know nothing about basketball. Is it really that hard, af game speed, when you’re down by 3, to make sure that you shoot a 3? Just seems like an epic self-own, but maybe not?

I can accept that. (smileyface)

The funny thing is this is the oldest roster they've had in the last four Olympic cycles, the only one over 30 years old, and it's entirely because of Taurasi. Replace her with Clark or Ogunbowale and it becomes the 2nd youngest.

2nd youngest and a better team. They were so confident they thought they could bring a useless player and win. I guess it worked but didn't help prepare a youngster for LA.

Could team USA have a more obnoxious outfit to wear? Terrible. Stereotypical in the worst of ways.

They really were disappointing. And the hats were awful. The folks at Ralph Lauren have run out of ideas. When they started this relationship, they actually had some pretty nice apparel. Also, it's summer time. Those jackets had to be hot.

I wonder how a US handball team would do if you took the next 12 guys from the NBA who didn't make the basketball team. In a way it's just swinging the ball along the perimeter waiting for an iso drive, and all those guys can jump insane distances inside the 7m line.

I was thinking take the 12 best NCAA defensive backs.

Jimmy Fallon has an amazing talent for ruining moments.

Fact. I really enjoyed him on SNL back in the day and I can tolerate him as a late night host. All that should have happened was giving him first crack at Olympians to interview on his show after the Games. In his five Moments he shared in studio with Mike Tirico, the clip of Steph Curry was ALL ABOUT HIM. And if he said "THAT'S how it's done" one more time, I was going to throw something at my TV.

I was disappointed in the Closing Ceremonies. I thought they were boring. I did like the floating Olympic rings but jeez, it took FOREVER to get it to the end. THe band Phoenix was kind of meh. I thought the presentation of the Greek flag and the playing of their anthem was a little weird, but at least they showed it. They don't always do that.

Trying to think if I'm going to be in any position to make it to LA in 2028. I reeeeeeally want to go to an Opening Ceremonies.

I normally can’t stand him outside of a couple recurring segments from his show, and that’s because he’s either not the focal point or the guest is great. During the basketball game they showed him taking a picture with Macron and in like five seconds he cycled through 20 different faces. Probably something many celebs do but it was creepy how seamless the transitions were for his “stock faces” for selfies.

Then right before the closing ceremony Tirico was setting up a line about the LA portion of the ceremony and Fallon jumped to his surprised/excited face about three seconds too early. Between that and the Macron faces he came off as a robot compared to someone who made their name in sketch comedy. And it only got worse during the ceremony when all he had to add once they got to the American section was “oh my god, Tom Cruise”, “this is amazing” and “no way!”

She’s still putting up good numbers in the W, so it wasn’t completely outrageous she was on the team, but for her to take up a roster spot from someone else just to get 6 medals, while averaging less than a point and rebound a game, and then not even play the gold medal game, there’s no reason for her to be there. It would be different if she was in a Lebron role, but for what transpired, give it to someone who will be there in ‘28 and so they can experience an Olympic cycle.

Thanks to their original stance, I didn't bother to watch the end. I tire of having my expectations raised because of what they tell me only to have them be so very wrong. Same thing happened for both mens and womens BB teams. And womens soccer. And some for mens.

I kind of get where kep comes from in his anti US stance for the games. Thankfully, there are a lot of other games to watch.

You're definitely giving kep a run for his money. ;)

I’m a little curious about what USA Team Handball is going to do for 2028. USA Rugby has had a lot of success recruiting athletes from other sports that were just off making Olympic teams. Like everything in the US, just need to find the funds for it.

TBF, Closing Ceremonies are typically boring and unmemorable. The only one in my lifetime I can remember anything from was London 2012 and that’s because of all the music acts.

I like that LA didn’t overthink their portion. As my daughter put it, it was the trailer for the big show in 2028. It was stereotypically LA, Hollywood stunt, flashy sequences, and “LA” music. Bodes well for 2028.

I went to (most of) the Opening Ceremonies and the Closing Ceremonies at Lake Placid. Back then, they were a whole lot different than the shows put on nowadays.

Well enjoy the Olympics now because it sounds like the Saudis and Qataris are bidding hard for 2036.

We always knew Saudi was going to bid once the next couple of rounds were selected. I think they have a better chance than Qatar getting them. And if nobody else bids (just speculating), what choice does the IOC have?

I get your point, lol.

But nbc has to remember that most viewers don’t know anything about the other teams, so hyping up team USA when other teams are having a year to remember just sets up people for disappointment.

They will beg. That’s how both Paris and LA got it.
