Paris Olympics

Steph kept them in it the first three quarters. LeBron and Embiid help close it out in the 4th with a touch of KD thrown in. Hopefully the other half can show up against France because that was such a disjointed team when the starters weren't in.

I'm happy they won, but, man, that was a good example of why I really don't like watching the NBA. It took 3 quarters for the players to really act like a team- so much play that was sloppy, carless, and thoughtless. Like the #1 talking head subject is about all of the NBA super teams that have been put together- this game was 3/4 of an illustration why that works way less often than it should.

In other news, Grant Holloway of the US won gold in the 110m hurdles. Good to see him finally get his Olympic gold after the heartbreak in Tokyo.

I want my wife to love me like old white dudes hate American NBA players…

Why is it so bad to be frustrated to see that much talent play so sloppy? Thank god, James managed to get them to pull their heads out of their rear ends (assuming it was him). But they were playing carless on both ends of the court too much. And I'm not talking about guarding the 3 point shooting- sometimes that just happens. When they give up 3 defensive rebounds to let them score, or completely miss passing off a player who gets an easy shot, come on. Or when they try some super aggressive passes that just turns the ball over.

These guys are so, so, so, so very talented. But they played the talent more than the team for too much of this game.

Maybe, just maybe, the other guys are very very talented and making incredible plays too.

They are very very talented, I didn't say that. They made a TON of shots. The discussion isn't about missing and making shots.

But Serbia didn't miss the defensive pass offs, they didn't contribute to the US team missing some rebounds they should have gotten, and they didn't make the US team make some terrible passes. The slop was all on the US. And Serbia's talent almost made them pay for it.

And you can't tell me that Serbia's talent was how one guy under the free throw line beat 3 of the US team to a rebound. They were sloppy with the rebounding. And Serbia's guy under the basket was by himself for the easy bucket not because of them being so talented- that was a very missed shift of coverage.

The one thing the US team did REALLY well for what I saw in the game was to draw fouls, which totally changes how Serbia was able to play D. Then again, when Jokic had 4 fouls, I then expected the US to attack him a lot harder- no idea why they didn't. The US team D came really together in the 4th quarter.

I read somewhere that when Jokic was on the floor (31 minutes) in the first matchup , Serbia was even in +/- vs. the USA. They were -26 the other 9 minutes. Today, he played 38 minutes.

Like to know why Tatum never got in. Jaylen brown would have helped this team, he can play shut down D and score. US rebounding was awful. Good thing Steph finally woke up. Lebron was great, Jokic can make passes. Be a tough game on Saturday, France playing on their home court.

US has a 16 yr old running first leg of 400 relay, he died at the end, US way behind. Ended up making the final

Watching the women’s game on the NBC Sports App and have to watch on Universo since it keeps saying NBC isn’t on my tv package, and man do the Spanish language broadcasts get screwed over. They just randomly cut to commercial for a couple minutes at a time, or they’ll go to commercial at the right time but go over the timeout slot and come back well after action has started.

Peacock has been doing that too, especially in Volleyball.

US on their way to another gold medal appearance in women's basketball. I believe this made it 60 straight.

Looking at the box scores and it's frustrating to see Taurasi was kept on just to get another medal. She's topped out at 15 minutes and is averaging exactly one point a game and one rebound a game. She has more fouls than points or rebounds. This isn't Lebron staying on who is still one of the best in the world, who has taken over and saved them in two of their exhibition games and yesterday against Serbia. Nor is this a team that needs veteran leadership. This isn't even an argument for Clark. While she would have been huge for ratings and an introduction to the next generation of players on the international stage, she did not have a great start professionally and probably needs a rest after playing non-stop since October. Going by merit, Ogunbowale should be on the team, but she admittedly took herself out of the running because she felt the vibes and politics during camps were already leaning towards her getting left off.

She cari just smoked the final leg of the relay. She was behind when she got baton

Spanish defender got mixed up thinking the end of the futbol game was rugby 7s, with a really nice wrap up tackle. PK goes in, game tied at the very end.

Too bad for Spain, as the ball was way over them. But this isn’t FB PI, it’s just basic arm tackling in the box.
