Paris Olympics

Rewatching the men’s 1500, that was a wonderful job by all three Americans to run together and keep themselves close to the front. Unlucky for Kessler to finish fifth but all three ran that race almost perfectly.

When the defense is pressured with the ball (or puck), they are slightly uncomfortable, making them hesitate, and then really increasing the chance of a turn over and a scoring chance. So in today’s events we had a US wrestler win a gold medal in dominating fashion, another wrestler make the final, US Women’s volleyball team sweeping a quarterfinal…

And NBC prime time spends an hour showing diving with two Chinese divers and one North Korean diver?
 
So in rather sharp contrast to the womens event, there's a 51 year old guy skating for GB in skateboard. Almost old enough to be a grandfather to some of the womens finalist. He skated with Tony Hawk in the day.
 
France really is deserving to lose this team handball game. They were up by 2 with about a min left with the ball, then turned it over. After a penalty, they had the ball with 13 seconds left- and should have just walked the game out. Instead they called a TO, and when the game restarted, they turned the ball over letting Germany score with no time left.

What in the world was the French team thinking? They had the game literally in their hands, and decided to pause the game for some reason.

Now they have to win in OT.

And they lost. Good. Dumb play of a game does not deserve to win.
 
Unusual medal ceremony today, thanks to russia being russia, the US was awarded a gold medal for team figure skating from the '22 Winter games. Japan Silver, and roc bronze. Of course, russia does not sent their cheating team to pick up their bronze medals.

I wouldn’t say they tanked. The Poles just got 2-3 really big plays from their best players and that made the difference in two really close sets.

Remember in Tokyo when everyone was freaking out because no American man won in an individual gold on the track?
 
On a side note, the Brit in second in the men’s 400 set a new European and British record with his time but the scoreboard graphic only displays it as “NR” or National Record. I want someone to set a new World Record and get the full “WR OR AR NR PB WL” scoreboard treatment they deserve!

that was a great race! Going from 4th/5th (hard to tell) with 100m to go, and to reel all of them in like that.
 
TIL there’s a Team Title at the World Athletics (Track and Field) Championships. Countries get points for having athletes finish in the top eight of each event (1st gets 8 points, 8th gets 1 point).

The US won both in 2022 and 2023.
