Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Courtesy of my friend Eric McAuliffe's facebook status:

Oswego State head coach Ed Gosek in today's Pall-Times in the Plattsburgh/Potsdam preview:

"People of Plattsburgh are a different breed."

:D . Let the games begin.

0-9-1. TIME TO END!

While no one is questioning the species of those who live in Plattsburgh (timtheflagman, Remy the Pooh, etc.), Gosek shouldn't be criticizing the way others live their lives without looking at the branches of his own family tree.

Just sayin, those in glass houses....

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

You know its kind of sad you don't have the testicular fortitude to say that to someones face....even when Remy the Pooh lives closer to Elmira, Geneseo, and Oswego....

Sorry, Romes...
I've been dying to use that video.

The athletics department (namely Joe Gladz) actually approached Jay and asked if he would make a video to bring the team out onto the ice. He agreed to do it and that is the video that brought the guys out for every home game that season. WTOP also produced a video tribute to the national championship season that was played on the video board prior to the raising of the banner before the exhibition game against Kent State.

No worries. I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. I will say that I still don't remember the video being played at the arena for every home game. Thinking back on it, I'm actually fairly certain it was played on-air before every home game, but I honestly can't remember it being played for any of the games I color commentated for during the 2nd semester.

The video tribute you're talking about was actually done for the "Pep Rally" held in March of 07 when the students got back from Spring Break too. Good stuff.

Oh wait you meant 'balls'...I get it. And what's with the pooh?

I heard Gosek said "People of Plattsburgh have difficulty breathing.."

Just sayin

That pep rally was BRUTES. DFS spoke for 20 minutes and I can't tell you one thing she said.

What is a "DFS" ???

A creature that lurks near the Glimmerglass Lagoon collecting more than $200k a year to limit the number of banners that can be hung in the Campus Center Ice Arena. Said creature nearly migrated to Old Dominion recently, but <s>was deemed under qualified</s> withdrew from consideration.

Congrads to the Oswego team and fans tonight after thumping my Bears 8-1. I think you have a classy bunch from the coaches to the team plus the fans. Good luck tomorrow night.

Seriously. Can you believe she makes 212k? Ridiculous.

On a more hockey related note. It's GAME DAY! The first (only? - that was for you Carey :p) SUNYAC test of the year goes down tonight in Plattsburgh.

Both teams will go at it with goalie situations that are far from rock solid. It seems to be more than just a slight possibility that Kyle Gunn-Taylor will get the start in net tonight with Paul Beckwith being too sick to play. On the opposite side of the ice, freshman Josh Leis will be in net for the Cards (courtesy of Bill R in the Plattsburgh thread). If that is the case, that means that each team will be starting a goalie that only has one start for their team (KGT played last night, his first for the Lakers but had already played in 21 for Buff St). I'm wondering if a situation like that has ever happened.

Both teams are coming off very solid performances against mediocre at best SUNYAC squads last night. Lakers hung 8 on Potsdam while Cards scored 5 against the Red Dragons. It looks like the offense and defense are looking quite good despite some substantial losses from last year on both teams. Clearly goaltending is always a crucial part of the game, but is it safe to say that it is the main deciding factor in tonight's game considering the little experience each one has? Which team is better off in net tonight? How will the Lakers perform knowing that 0-9-1 is hanging over their heads? What does each team need to do in order to get a W tonight?

Let's get some discussion folks :)

Nope, I don't believe she makes 212k:

0-9-1 from one perspective, 9-0-1 from another, yet certainly the law of averages and this quote from Tony D'Amato (Al Pacino) "On any given Sunday you're gonna win or you're gonna lose" have to have you thinking.

As always, you have to play YOUR game and stay out of the box.

Dang. Thought it was 212 last year. If so that's quite a raise in this economy. If not, she's still making too much in this economy.

I honestly don't think this team cares at all about how the previous Oswego team did and that 0-9-1 record.

Certainly the very few upperclassmen who have lost every game against Platty are going to be playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. But, the majority of this team has never faced Plattsburgh and I like that. I felt the previous senior class always gripped their sticks a little too tight against Plattsburgh after losing those two back to back SUNYAC playoff games in the final year of Romney.

This is totally new team and I think they pull it out today. Call me crazy whatever but I think Oswego wins today 4-2 or 5-2.

Are you sure you don't mean "I think Oswego wins today 4-3"

No arguing that Plattsburgh's 13 and Oswego's 12 freshmen haven't faced each other in SUNYAC play - BUT nevertheless, this is the game they have been waiting for.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Sure both teams will going with new goaltenders tonight but I think that Oswego may hold a slight advantage. Only because Gunn-Tyler has experience as a starter at the dIII level and has probably faced Plattsburgh in the past at Buff State.

Gunn Taylor faced Plattsburgh once while at Buffalo State.

He gave up 5 goals on 35 shots and the Bengals lost 5-2. However, one could say the team currently in front of him is slightly different than the one from Buffalo...

Not to mention the Plattsburgh team he'll face tonight is probably quite different as well.

I think the "new freshman" argument is a good point. I hope it actually is the case and results in a W for the Lakers tonight. I definitely agree that the Plattsburgh game always did seem to hang over the heads of the Class of 09 as well.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

It is a little early in the season to tell, but so far Oswego's offensive abilities are far more impressive than Plattsburgh's. Kyle is a solid goalie with a decent team in front of him for once, and tonight's game is an excellent opportunity to see what he really can do. I'm predicting 5-3 Oswego victory.
