Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

It is a little early in the season to tell, but so far Oswego's offensive abilities are far more impressive than Plattsburgh's. Kyle is a solid goalie with a decent team in front of him for once, and tonight's game is an excellent opportunity to see what he really can do. I'm predicting 5-3 Oswego victory.

so because Oswego has 1 line that is doing most of their scoring, and Fox (whom I've heard is the real deal) is on that line as a freshman that gives Oswego's freshman the advantage? I'm not gonna try to defend Plattsburghs freshman as we will see what happens tonight and since I haven't seen Oswego's freshman I can't discredit them. should be an interesting game.

If Plattsburgh shuts down the Selleck/Fox/Laganiere line they will shutting down nearly 50% of the Oswego offense if not more. Note, none of them are freshman.

In the Oswego class of 2009, it seemed like in most games, the "big" players would disappear for the Plattsburgh game and I think that's more of a credit to Bob Emery game planning and Plattsburgh's style of play more than anything.

As far as freshman for Oswego, from the game I saw, Whitelaw, Rodrigues, Singleton, and Leimbrock impressed me the most. Moodie has potential too. I'd watch for those five to be the brighest spots out of the Oswego freshman.

For those framiliar with the Stafford arena, the line is from the ticket counters to the entrance and then down the hallway past the females bathrooms...and still 45 minutes till the ticket booth opens.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Thanks for the correction Derek, I thought Fox was a freshman..... I don't remember him from past years, did he just not get much time or is he a transfer?

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Sad part is Fox wanted to be sitting on the home bench tonight and not the away...

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Wow, how many bonus points do I get in SUNYAC pick 'em for calling this one with the correct score?

Let's start the meaningless speculation: where will the Lakers come out in the next USCHO poll?

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I'll take it! How many does Prez lose for switching his score pick and then claiming he nailed it?

As for the game, look at those final shot tallies. 34-14!?!

Lastly, Dyce just posted a link to this in the Plattsburgh thread, but it really needs to be embedded here. Ducky, can you please make this the new theme to "Behind the Bench?"

I'm not sure what the hell you are talking about, cause as of now there are 7 Oswego players each averaging at least 1 point per game. I'm pretty certain that means there's at least 2 lines worth of top scorers.

Nice job Oswego. You gotta be a little alarmed because you were outshot by 20, but a win is a win is a win. And to get the first one at Stafford is huge. I'm intrigued by the upcoming Oswego-Adrian game, but that's a conversation for another day. Congrats again Lakers. Keep it up.

It was a nice job. Do you mean getting the first win of the home and home at Stafford? Don't worry about the 20 shot difference as you could win the game in Platty by 10 and still never beat their shot clock.:) :)

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Tada, 0-9-1 becomes 1-9-1, a radar number, I like that.

Seriously, it was a good game that, as billed, could have gone either way, I think Gosek said it well:

Gosek said the Cardinals are still the team to beat.

“They’re the most talented team in the league,” Gosek said. “They’re looking for a number-one goalie right now. We’re hoping they haven’t found one yet. We hope that’s an area we can exploit.”

The Lakers while significantly out shot, they exploited their chances, and won, congratulations. Their new record is 29-65-5; just 36 more consecutive wins and they will even up the score;)

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I'm so disappointed I wasn't there (being sick sucks). I really think Jon Whitelaw is gonna be a special player and those type of players show up in big games.

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Great to get a win like that, but the defense has to tighten things up shot-wise. They play a game like that against a team like that a thousand times they'll lose it more often than not.

Still... A three-goal win is f-cking awesome - a great thing to build on.

Sorry, Romes...
I've been dying to use that video.

The athletics department (namely Joe Gladz) actually approached Jay and asked if he would make a video to bring the team out onto the ice. He agreed to do it and that is the video that brought the guys out for every home game that season. WTOP also produced a video tribute to the national championship season that was played on the video board prior to the raising of the banner before the exhibition game against Kent State.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG, WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG. Athletics department aproached ME and Jay. Although Jay made the video. The videos made for the national championship were made by Steve Kiesa and Keith Monette and myself. I happened to be in on both videos.

Ain't I great?

Nice to get the Plattsburg Monkey off our backs. I love the fact that the freshman did it. It was almost as if our last class (McLovin, Ellis etc.) had this mental block against the Cardinals and no matter how hard they played it was no use. Good to see the new crop of Laker players dispel the "plattsburg curse" and start a new tradition themselves.

Shall we start a "Hince Curse" anyone? Bambinoesque? Hopefully this means the cardinals won't win a championship for 86 years!
