Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

So there were 22 folks in the compound and they killed 5, what happened to the other 17?

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

I feel bad for those who bet "Bruins score a PP goal in '11 playoffs" instead of "US catches OBL".

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Politico reporting (guessing?) that there was a "mother lode" of intelligence seized during the raid as well. That would be awesome.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

I wonder if they used the Vinson's catapult to launch UBL.
See ya!

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

Great Job SEAL Team 6!

Somewhere in Texas Marcus Luttrell (lone survivor) must be one of the happiest people in the country.

I hope in some way this helps the victims families from 9/11, embassy bombings, Cole, etc., assuage some anguish or grief.

I also hope that it helps us remember what 9/12 was like when we all stood together.

This bastard Bin Laden got what he wanted "we love death more than you love life"...oh yeah? tap tap..."you're welcome *******"

I can only hope Zawahiri and Omar are up next. You just know they can't feel safe now.

EDIT - for all my criticism of President Obama, this is one big kudos to you for the ballsiest decision by a sitting president since WWII.

And I too listened a bit to rush limbaugh today to see what he had to say. there is NO NEED for politics in this. there really isn't. so he failed today.

You have to know job number two in this raid was to gather as much intelliogence as possible on AQ. In that, I'm certain they succeeded. Reminds me of the capture of the U505, when American sailors not only got an Enigma machine, but rotors, code books and more. It was a treasure trove, as I suspect the haul was from Pakistan. We got a lot of intelligence when we captured KSM, I'm guessing our take here is several orders of magnitude greaater.

Krauthamer said today: "Bin Laden used to talk about weak horse, strong horse. Now he's a dead horse." Booyah.

The Pentagon says video of the 40 minute burial ceremony will be released "cautiously" sometime soon.

Who on the Vinson was given the task of preparing the body? I mean, that strikes me as the real life version of the old joke: "First prize is a week in Grand Forks, ND. Second prize is two weeks in Grand Forks, ND." What was their training that "qualified" them for this job? Were they phramacist's mates, jet engine mechanics, cooks? Did they volunteer?

Hey, remember when there was big to do about "Cheney's assassination squad"?

The big complaint was:
"It's an executive assassination ring essentially, and it's been going on and on and on," Hersh stated. "Under President Bush's authority, they've been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving. That's been going on, in the name of all of us."

That "assassination squad" was the JSOC. The same JSOC that just killed bin Laden.

Re: Osama bin Laden Declared Dead

I've said before I'm a little conflicted on what we should have done with the body, I see the arguments on both sides. However, if they actually included these lines in the funeral prayer, I'll be rather upset.

O Allah, admit him to Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hell-fire; make his grave spacious and fill it with light. O Allah, do not deprive us of the reward and do not cause us to go astray after this.

I don't care what the argument is, I don't think "admit him to Paradise" is anything an American ought to be saying with regard to bin Laden.
