Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....
OMFG - Curt Cavin is hearing MILWAUKEE IS HAPPENING! yes!
from his Q&A on indystar.com
Question: Katherine Legge to Dragon Racing? (Bill, Greenwood, Ind.)
Answer: Yes, and she’ll have Sebastien Bourdais as a teammate, which is terrific for her. Bourdais was one of the real bright stories for the 2011 season, showing extremely well for Dale Coyne’s team in an abbreviated schedule. He often was best in class, and he should be Lotus’ best hope for a championship this season. Lotus is coming on strong despite a late start. It is expected to have Oriol Servia in a car of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. As for Legge, she figures to be a bit rusty given she sat out last year and hasn’t driven a similar car since 2007, the last full year of Champ Car. Anyway, great move by Jay Penske. The first Lotus will be on the track tomorrow at Palm Beach Raceway. Simona De Silvestro will be doing the shakedown. A wider test will be held next week at Sebring.
Question: Heard a rumor here in PA that Bryan Clauson has a one off for Indy and possibly three other oval races. Any truth to the rumor and if so, what team? Thanks for keeping everyone energized during the offseason. (Mike, Reading, Pa.)
Answer: Details haven’t been released (or probably even finalized), but Clauson’s plan is to utilize his IndyCar backing from winning USAC’s overall championship to compete in the 500. He also hopes to run at least a couple of other oval races. At the moment, the ovals on IndyCar’s schedule are Indy, Texas, Iowa and California, although we’re hearing now that Milwaukee will happen. So, that could be up to five for Clauson to choose from.
Question: So Hinchcliffe isn’t in the No. 7 car. Why is that? Who do you see running with the No. 7 or will it be empty? (Pete, Intercourse, Pa.)
Answer: Not sure it will go unused, but Andretti Autosport won’t use it. No. 27 was selected so that the team has Nos. 26, 27 and 28 with Marco, Hinch and Hunter-Reay, respectively. Andretti Green Racing started using No. 7 when it had 7-Eleven as a primary sponsor (remember, Kanaan drove No. 11). There’s no such tie now. As for other Andretti news, Michael Andretti said it’s about “60 to 70 percent” likely that the team will have a fourth car. He said he’s got a couple of things working with veterans. He said a decision will be made in the next couple of weeks.
