Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

Per the 2012 Sporting Regs on blocking:

Article 20.3 reads: “More than one change of direction to defend a position is not permitted. Any driver moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off‐line, should leave at least one car width between his own car and the edge of the track on the approach to the corner.”

Simple. I know there will be some judgement to the one car width, but the rule is straight forward. Indycar should adopt this rule.
Can you put that in German for a certain Mercedes driver? :)

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

I also read he was a steward for Champ Car under Cotman. So I think he is qualified even if nobody knows who he is.

Many within the racing community know who Barfield is (heck, I remember racing against him back in Sports Renault).

Amongst those of us who covered ALMS last year, we all figured Barfield was going to end up in Indycar once Barnhart started running into all sorts of problems. Barfield is highly respected amongst the competitors.

I love Schumi, have been a fan forever, but sometimes he does wierd desperate things that a man of his talent should never even consider doing. That trait reminds me of that buttwipe Dale Sr. over in crapcar.

James Hinchcliffe to Andretti, GREAT MOVE!

Tags to Herta

Servia to Dryer and Reinbold

Dragon Racing (Jay Penske) picks up Sebastien Bourdais and Katherine Legge, wow, that's a big move for someone who's been virtually silent over the last month

Justin Wilson stays w/Dale Coyne

man I love Senna but if the rumor is true, his ride w/Williams was bought outright, not won by skill or driver competition, and that sucks

Kubica can't get a break. he broke his leg this week but docs are saying it's not going to hamper his return to the car in 2012...we'll see about that

I am completely shocked by this one! I didn't think that Dragon Racing would have even one fulltime car let alone two. And add to that a top notch driver like SeaBass....Wow. I wonder if SeaBass wanted to stay in Indycar that bad or if Dragon is paying him a lot? From everything I have read he had a standing offer to run the LeMans series with Peugeot.

I think the only way Senna sticks in F1 is to buy his ride. He's shown nothing with the equipment he has had (which has been bad) to give anyone a reason to think he even an average F1 driver. Don't worry to much about it, probably half the drivers or more are buying their rides. If he can consistently beat out his teammate at Williams then maybe a better team will take notice.

Kubica has to have some of the worst luck I have ever seen for a driver. I am starting to wonder if he will ever drive in F1 again. :(

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

I saw something on Rueter's about Lotus having an adjustable ride height device that was operated by energy captured by braking and manipulated by the driver, but then awhile later the article was gone. I do believe Ferarri was questioning the legality of it.

That's what happens when you have been at the top and then can't compete because of diminished skills and/or lack of a competitive car.

He's done it his whole career, not just lately. I'm going all the way back to when he tried to crash that Williams car out years ago in the last race when he was with Benneton (details are sketchy, was it Hill or Villineuve, was he successful?).

OMFG - Curt Cavin is hearing MILWAUKEE IS HAPPENING! yes!

from his Q&A on indystar.com
Question: Katherine Legge to Dragon Racing? (Bill, Greenwood, Ind.)

Answer: Yes, and she’ll have Sebastien Bourdais as a teammate, which is terrific for her. Bourdais was one of the real bright stories for the 2011 season, showing extremely well for Dale Coyne’s team in an abbreviated schedule. He often was best in class, and he should be Lotus’ best hope for a championship this season. Lotus is coming on strong despite a late start. It is expected to have Oriol Servia in a car of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. As for Legge, she figures to be a bit rusty given she sat out last year and hasn’t driven a similar car since 2007, the last full year of Champ Car. Anyway, great move by Jay Penske. The first Lotus will be on the track tomorrow at Palm Beach Raceway. Simona De Silvestro will be doing the shakedown. A wider test will be held next week at Sebring.

Question: Heard a rumor here in PA that Bryan Clauson has a one off for Indy and possibly three other oval races. Any truth to the rumor and if so, what team? Thanks for keeping everyone energized during the offseason. (Mike, Reading, Pa.)

Answer: Details haven’t been released (or probably even finalized), but Clauson’s plan is to utilize his IndyCar backing from winning USAC’s overall championship to compete in the 500. He also hopes to run at least a couple of other oval races. At the moment, the ovals on IndyCar’s schedule are Indy, Texas, Iowa and California, although we’re hearing now that Milwaukee will happen. So, that could be up to five for Clauson to choose from.

Question: So Hinchcliffe isn’t in the No. 7 car. Why is that? Who do you see running with the No. 7 or will it be empty? (Pete, Intercourse, Pa.)

Answer: Not sure it will go unused, but Andretti Autosport won’t use it. No. 27 was selected so that the team has Nos. 26, 27 and 28 with Marco, Hinch and Hunter-Reay, respectively. Andretti Green Racing started using No. 7 when it had 7-Eleven as a primary sponsor (remember, Kanaan drove No. 11). There’s no such tie now. As for other Andretti news, Michael Andretti said it’s about “60 to 70 percent” likely that the team will have a fourth car. He said he’s got a couple of things working with veterans. He said a decision will be made in the next couple of weeks.

Randy Bernard tweeted this morning "@IndyCarINDY who would like to see milwaukee on 2012 IZOD INDYCAR schedule?" so maybe Milwaukee is going to happen. I take this as a good sign.

I just emailed Robin Miller, please tell Randy he's got fans willing to go, we can do much better than 15,000 if you start the race at 1pm and promote if properly

I'll be there with 4 if it's on. I must get my boys to a live Indycar race.

I can't believe Miller wouldn't pony up some cash to sponsor the race with their history in the sport.

yes!

I'll be there w/my parents for sure if this happens, so now we're up to 7 people in attendance;)

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

re: Miller Brewing...not sure. by all rights they *should* help promote the race in their former hometown but now that they're based in chicago and have that colorado connection w/coors I'm not sure if they look at milwaukee outside baseball anymore

it will be interesting to see if associate sponsors like briggs and stratton sit out once again as well

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

They dump zillions of dollars into supporting the Brewers, what not throw a million towards the race? They could cross promote and say if you bring in a used 2012 Brewers ticket, you get half off your race ticket. Just don't race on a Sunday the Crew are in town, or at least don't race during the Brewer game.

Both.

He successfully knocked Hill out of the last race to win his first World Championship. I'll never forget the look on his face when he dropped out first and Hill was able to continue. It was one heck of an "Oh, sh*t" look realizing he may not have pulled off what he was hoping to pull off. Then, when Hill was forced to retire because of the damage, Schummy is celebrating like a school yard bully not even trying to hide what he had just done.

In 1997, he unsuccessfully tried to knock Villeneuve off the track in the last race of the season. Villeneuve continued and went on to win the title. I believe that was the year Schummy had all his points stripped for that move, removing him from second place in the championship.

In Alex Zanardi's book, he talks about the antics Schumacher pulled back in their karting days.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

Tons on pics @ Speed of the new Indy cars testing. I'm dying to see laps times....and hear/watch the cars on youtube.

Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....

You got your wish!

:)

I'm happy but it's tempered by the fact the ride was essentially bought by his new sponsor

I'm hearing Randy B thinks is the responsibility of Indycar to get Milwaukee back on the schedule, but also more ominously...he's seeking state support (not sure what that exactly means) and also is saying if it doesn't come to fruition this year Milwaukee should be forgotten....

what?
