Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

So Bill Demong wins Gold in Nordic Combined then proposes to his girlfriend then is named the flag bearer for the Closing Ceremonies. That's a helluva day.

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

This is HUGE for USA hockey. Has anyone figured out if the same country has ever held the U17, U18, U20 and Olympic gold medal at the same time?
Never.

Only thing to note is Sweden won the Olympics and World Championships in the same year. Only team to do that since the Olympics stopped counting as the Worlds. Ken Morrow is the only player to win the Olympics and the Stanley Cup in the same season.

My biggest want for USA Hockey is to put a few players in the Triple Gold Club.

That says a helluva lot about the development of USA hockey. Ron DeGregorio evidently knows what he's doing.

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

That's what I thought, too, but the articles this morning say Luongo got his glove on it. If so, holy crap, he saved his team.

Luongo did get some glove on the shot, but it APPEARS as if it was still going to sail wide. It is hard to tell from the TV replay, however. Especially since I don't get CNBC in HD, and I wasn't recording NBC HD when they switched.

Could you imagine if Demitra would have beat his teammate and then Slovakia went on to win in OT or the skills  Vancouver would have to trade him at 11:59 PM 2/28 for some used sticks and half-rolls of tape :D

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

If you have access, the full replay is available here.

Imagine if Kessler pops a couple past Luongo tomorrow, deportation time.... :D

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

Here is a freeze frame of the final shot. It appears Luongo does get a glove on it, because the trajectory changes. It may have been going wide, but Chara is right there and would have a chance to put it in the open net...

I just saw the replay of the Ohno DQ and I don't agree with the call at all. It is obvious that he didn't push the Canadian, yeah he touched him, but its effing short track!

Live I thought for sure he had pushed, but in the end I also think all he did was touch him. However, the guy did go down and Ohno had his hand on him right before he did. I really do not understand why he stuck his hand out there in the first place.

I think he felt he had to make something happen to get a medal.

Would those two players be Rafalski and Lagenbrunner?

This snowboarding is captivating television. I'm sure it would be even better if we could see anything through the fog.

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

When did this become an SLU thread?

I find it hard to sympathize with Ohno, who should be awarded a lifetime achievement gold medal in whining.

I'm pretty sure this is Ohno's last Olympics, so why not say whatever you want? It's not like the IOC or USOC can do anything to him next Monday.

There is one replay angle that really makes it look bad for Ono. They only played that right after it happened. Since then they seem to be showing an angle that is less incriminating.
