Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Sounds good to me.

I think what really got me off the ledge was seeing that even with that disastrous second-half of the season, we still finished the season only a few spots out of an NCAA Tournament bid. With only 16 teams making the NCAA Tournament, a team can get hot for four games. All we have to do is get there and we have a shot to get to another Frozen Four or even win it all. Cannot wait to see the day when Ohio State wins an NCAA Title in Hockey. I believe it will happen and I think we have the guy in place who can get us to that point. We've already seen improvement in recruiting. The freshman class that Coach Oz brought in this past season can obviously play, and I only hope some of them will stick around for a while before bolting for the NHL.

I don't know how many will agree but I see similarities between Oz & Red. Both are intense and focused, experienced and expect a high level from their players.

Hey, if Oz ends up having the track record and success that Red has had at UM, I will be ecstatic. I know as Buckeyes, we are supposed to not like Michigan, but I admire the heck out of that program. National Titles, multiple Frozen Four appearances, yeah, I would love to see Oz have that kind of success.

Yeah, I envy and respect Michigan as well. I'm probably as happy for Hunwick's recent good fortune as the most rabid Wolverine fan.

I sincerely hope Hunwick gets a fair shot with the CBJ. Kid has been a solid backstop and the Jackets sure could use some decent goaltending, although Allen York has actually been playing decent lately. Hey, and I am right there with you regarding Michigan Hockey ... envy the heck out of that program! Man, if we can have that sort of success someday, I will be one happy OSU Hockey fan.

I wish the Buckeye hockey program can have 1/2 of the success that Michigan has had over the years. I respect the He!! out of that program and am not afraid to admit it.

Like Woody was for us with football, Red won't be around forever to lead the dynasty and I see no reason for Oz not to become top coach in the conference as when Red's gone it may well take years for Michigan to get a coach capable of doing what Red has done.
I must confess I have been staying up late watching the Jacket's road games to see if Hunwick gets put in.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Now that the discussion here has centered on Hunwick (hometown Bluejackets I get it), I thought I would bring it back to the Buckeyes or former Buckeye. I was prompted to look up the goalies who signed so far from the college ranks this year. Of those goalies signed it seems Cal Heeter signed as good or better contract than anyone. From the CCHA, considerably better than Knapp or Hunwick. Only Mike Lee's is as good or better (3 years vs Heeter's 2yr deal). Got my info from capgeek.com.

Touching on the earlier discussion of the coaching staff and team...I saw the Buckeyes play a few games this year and it seemed every game was competitive. The second half of the season there seemed to be a lack of scoring and at least3-5 glaring breakdowns in D-zone coverage every game. I think this coaching staff has the team on the right track it will take time and a couple of more years of recruits. I was inpressed with a lot of what I saw on the ice.

One more thing on Heeter vs.Hunwick - the CBJ did not have the luxury of looking around, they had to sign someone immediately because they had only one goalie to dress for a game that night. The closest one appeared to have been in Ann Arbor and that's where they went.

I remain disappointed with the way the season ended for OSU but I am not in any way discouraged.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

I have to say though I've become disappointed with Heeter. Not because of his playing ability or how our season went but in his attitude. He seems to have developed an arrogant and smug personality which does not reflect well on our program.

That is disturbing if true.

I caution against mistaking confidence for arrogance. He had a great season and signed a great deal with Philly because of the quality of his play and demeanor. If he takes some pride in that accomplishment and feels he can compete at the next level (which Philly obviously believes), why shouldn't he be confident?

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

I see the season starts with two games at Minnesota Duluth on Oct 12 & 13

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Nice start to the season not sure what Duluth is losing but its a measuring stick right off the bat.

I like that scheduling, too. A couple games against UMD will let us know what we have to work on right out of the gate so we can correct things and move forward.

My opinion is based on things he said that were overheard. I won't repeat it here but it was disappointing. It has nothing to with any public statement he made, just some private ones.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Better than playing them the second half of the season!:)

Yeah, Sterling, based on the second half meltdowns the past two seasons, I agree. Mrs 86 (BG grad) was giddy that the games are at Bowling Green, but then I reminded her that the games were during our "good half of the season."
