Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Mcfarljd, agreed. The CCHA has been a great hockey conference for a long time. It's going to be a bittersweet ending next season. I am just happy that all the teams have found new conference homes and it doesn't appear that there will be any attrition (no one dropping their programs). That's the best thing, IMHO.
I would encourage all the fans in the conference to attend the last final next year in Detroit and go out in style! Bittersweet indeed but we can make one hell of a party of it. As the inagural winners of the CCHA I think it would only be fitting to be the final winners.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Anyone consider that we may have simply been more cohesive earlier than the other teams and as the season progressed the other teams got much better, peaked and the competion more stiff?

I have considered that and i did show up if you think about it especially on the PP they clicked at a good pace during the first half of the season and then went south with the rest of the results in the 2nd half.

I won't throw names out here at this point but I thought durning the meltdown there were certain players who were consistantly blowing their assigned coverage on D and taking stupid penalties at the worse possible time in the games but were back starting week after week. I thought for sure with the number of reserves we had someone could or should have been given playing time over the mistake makers and see if the bleeding could have been stopped.

That may have been the case. My hope for next season is that we're the ones who get much better and peak in the second half of the season rather than regress like we did this past season. The encouraging thing is that we are not that far off. Even with the second half collapse, we still finished 19th in the PairWise. If our coaching staff and players can just figure out how to prevent the second half meltdowns, we should be able to qualify for an NCAA Tournament bid. I would love to see the Buckeyes in that Toledo Region next season.

That's a good point, which is exactly why I don't put the meltdown all on the players. It is the coaching staff's job to see things like this and make those necessary changes to stop the bleeding.

I saw Markell at the games in Detroit last weekend talking with another OSU fan. Should have had the guy ask him if he wanted his old job back if OSU keeps tanking. LOL!

Klbaum would like that placement most of all. He'd probably have the easiest drive to make of any of us. :D

I was thinking that, too (LOL)! Klbaum wouldn't have to travel or get a hotel room! If OSU makes the NCAA Tournament next season and gets placed in that Toledo Regional, I will be there, guaranteed. I just hope that materializes. We could have a nice home ice advantage there, that is, unless Michigan gets sent to Toledo next season.

I believe Michigan is actually hosting in Grand Rapids net year. Two good locations for us southern CCHA folk.

We'll take the 1 seed you guys can have the 3, let michigan fly everywhere ;). Other than fort wayne I don't know if weve ever had a regional less than a 10 hour drive away. Doesn't help theyre always in the same rinks though.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2012: In like a lion, out like a lamb.

Looking towards next years schedule if the league follows suit with the rotating home and away the schedule should look like this

Home
ND
Western

Away
Ferris
Northern
Alaska

Home and Away
Michigan
Michigan State
Miami(at least this should be a H/H)

As for the 4th home and home i think it should be BG just because it would give ohio state, Miami and BG a 4 game series against each other in the last go around for this league. I left lake state out of the schedule because im not sure what they will do with them. IF BG is the 4th home and home then i think ohio state will travel up to Lake St. because 2 years ago they came down to columbus in the only meeting of the regular season.

the ccha season does not flip flop home/road from season to season

wmu played at michigan in 10-11...and again in 11-12

BG and Western were both away but they flip flopped every other team they only played one Series.

I thought it was Western Michigan that was the host team for Grand Rapids next season, but I think you are correct, it's probably Michigan.
