Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

This thread is as dead as John Markell's career.
Doc tried to get some discussion going. Saw a few videos of Thrashers camp online and Albert seemed to be involved in almost every goal and their GM was very complimentary of his play. I also saw where the Bruins were happy to get a look at Bartkowski, they mentioned his shot being even better than advertised. Heeter had a very good camp, statistically, in Chicago and from what I heard turned some heads.

CBJ Coach Scott Arniel's son, Brenden will lace them up for the Buckeyes this season. He skated for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres last season. DOB 89. The winger has scored two in the last three seasons.

Glad to hear about Albert and Heeter. Does anyone have any info on Krough, Stefishen or Sims? I heard they went camping as well.

From the "whatever happened to" category......the Wichita Thunder resigned Ian Keserich.
Keserich joined the Wichita in a trade with the RiverKings last December. Despite a 1-19-1 mark in 22 games with the Thunder, Keserich posted a .900 save percentage and a 3.71 goals against average. The Parma, OH native led the Thunder to their first ever victory at the INTRUST Bank Arena when he made 27 saves in a 1-0 shutout versus Texas on February 21st. The 24-year old backstop also played under McClelland, and was a teammate of Davis, during his first tour with Mississippi in 2007-08. Keserich played two seasons of college hockey at Ohio State University.

Was Ian Keserich the goalie who was behind Caruso, then when it was about to be his turn his sophomore year, he bolted for the NHL and never played any college hockey? Does anyone think maybe the jump in competition between where he played before he came to Ohio State versus the minor leagues of the NHL was too tall a mountain to scale? I ask because I forget if Keserich came to OSU out of HS or if he played in juniors or what. Ok, looked it up. Before coming to OSU, he played for the Cleveland Barons of the NAHL. He was at OSU for two seasons (2004-05 & 2005-06) and went 4-3 in seven appearances. He did go 26-13-5 in the 2006-07 season with the Tri City Thunder of the USHL. I found some stats on a hockey database.

Him leaving was the reason Palmer had to be brought in a year sooner than they wanted to. I really didnt care for Ian to much when he did get to play.

Palmer came in when he was scheduled.. Fillon then replaced Keserich

I didn't really see enough of Ian to draw any sort of opinion on him. Seems like all the games we went to back then, Caruso was between the pipes.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Keserich bailed out at the prospect of having to compete with Palmer (who was highly touted at the time). Too bad, I think he would have won the starting job if he had approached it the right way.

What i really meant to say was it forced Joe to play a much bigger role then he was supposed to as a freshman.

...If you check out the list of coaches you will also find some excellent news. The new video coordinator is JB Bittner. Great that he's still with the program.

I am not so sure, I would have rather seen them clean house. IMHO This team needed a fresh start and to break away from that neg vibe associated with the former coaching staff. I also can argue both sides of the argument, I know JB and Brent were great captains and all that, so understand the sentiment and I also understand as a new coach you might want to keep an assistant around to help with the transition. Tough to say which is the best choice but I feel clean breaks heal faster/better.

I wonder what they are doing about volunteer coach. I don't see one listed.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Saw a note today that OSU has a commit from Matt Skoff, a goalie out of western PA who played in the USHL last season. Any of you know any more than this?

Any mention of when Skoff is scheduled to joing the team? Dusty is a senior, Heeter is a junior, Gibson comes in next fall after Dusty leaves (assuming he is still committed to OSU)... I wonder if Skoff will come in Fall 2012? or come in with Gibson next year and bump Michael? Skoff is definitely a gamer with a solid upside. Would not be a bad situation to have 3 talented goalies pushing each other (Heeter, Gibson, Skoff). Ya win a lot of games if you keep your opponents off the board.

Thanksgiving WE series against Alaska to be played at Nationwide, I guess to avoid the FB crowd, but will be a low attended series where ever they are played. Why not have some fun, play them in the Ice Rink.
