Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

...these are the same guys who went to the NCAA Tournament in 2009 so they must not be all bad...It will be interesting to see what kind of team we have this season. I don't expect us to suddenly win the Mason Cup, but I do expect to see some improvement as the season goes on.
I am not ready to write off this season. I think Oz still has a lot to work with on this team and and given his makeup will not settle for anything less than marked improvement. This team could be back in the top 4 or 5 in the league. They have guys like Albert, Boyd, Stefishen and Severyn returning and then add in Dries and others who can help pick up the slack...you never know maybe they have another Elkins waiting to break out. Goaltending I think is enough to get the job done, Carlson did a decent job in 2009 and Heeter had a winning record, won against some bigtime teams last year and showed big impovements. The only question to me is will Sims, Reed, Duddy and Krogh be enough on D? I think those are 4 solid D-men but can you make it through the whole season with w/o some help for them?

HckyDoc, that is basically the point I was trying to get across, and that is, that I think we have some guys that can play, and I think with the new coaching staff, we can have a decent season this winter. We could definitely use some help back at the blue line. It will be great if a couple of those defensemen we're bringing in can contribute right away.

slightly different subject.

Does anyone now where JB Bittner landed?

No clue. I googled for him but I could not find anything current. JB was one of my favorites when he played for the Buckeyes. I sure hope he lands on his feet somewhere.

Toy will be a force also.

Hopefully Corey gets faster and stronger this summer. I think they have a real sleeper in Krogh. I thought he improved all season. i really think Sims could be very good on offense if he or the coaching staff so chooses. He has a good shot low to the ice very deflectable or at worst gets rebounds.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Oz worked wonders with some very pedestrian D talent early on here at Wisconsin - the 2006 NC team didn't have half the talent the current Badger D-men have - so if he has anything at all to work with on the blueline you'll be fine.

I'm a huge fan of Oz and you guys are going to love him.

You are spot on about Krogh and Sims. Sims has the hardest shot on the team

Anyone have any idea when the schedule comes out? If you go into the OSU athletic website and try to pull it up, it is still showing last year's schedule/results.

Brutal start to the season on the road and 8 games vs UM and MSU. Silver lining is only 2 games vs Miami and those are at home. Should put a bit of a chill on a cluster pair rivalry that had really gotten fun. We are used to playing Miami 6 times a year!

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

No exhibition against a Canadian team, at least for now. I was hoping for at Huntsville in Feb.

3 straight conference road series and all 3 will be tough. The character will be tested early on this season. Maybe the miami series will get more intense (if that is possible) with them only playing twice in the regular season.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Good day for a couple of future Puck Bucks.

Ben Gallacher from Camrose Alb. (2011) drafted early in the fourth round of the NHL draft by Florida.

Chris Crane from West Chester OH drafted late in the seventh round by San Jose. Crane made a a statement after Markell was fired that he might play Major Junior if he was drafted but would be in Columbus this fall if he wasn't.

Nice commit from Dominik Shine earlier this week.

Edit to add a link to an interview at NHL.com with Ben Gallacher

Shine on the smallish side, but 3rd leading leading scorer(29 pts) for the worst in that league. Other Buckeye committals from that league: Peter Hand(D)-GB; Alex Lippincott(F)-Far; Chris Crane(F)-GB; Ryan Dzingel(F)-Lin; Chris Cristofolli(D)-SF and John Gibson(G)-USNT

Awful quiet here...does anyone have info on the Bucs who went camping the last couple of weeks? Is there a possibility of losing anyone else to the pro ranks?

No time for speculation here. We're all preparing our bids to take over George Steinbrenner's suite at the The Schott.:D

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

I'll settle for his bids on government contracts.
George led quite the life.
Rickenbacker ANGB was once Lockbourne AFB, George was once the head basketball coach of the Lockbourne Skyhawks.
