Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

not to mention he was pretty good at scoring points against miami.:)

True. Looks like he had 3 goals in the final series, another 2 points in the first matchup in December as well. And another 5 points in 08-09 with 1 goal 4 assists. I'm not gonna mind not having to see him putting up points in our 4 or 7 games again next season ;)

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Job's looking more and more appealing every day. Good thing there's plenty of time to go get more players to replace those that are leaving. Oh well, I'm sure none of the incoming commitments will back out in the next couple months with no coach in place.

I know the sarcasm symbol was used but all the NLI's have been signed and submitted to the NCAA so they can't back out unless released by the school by mutual agreement.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Not much goin' on to talk about. Oh, except for the other thread discussing possible scenarios for new coaching and related stuff. In that other thread. You know, the one where folks are guessing who will be the next coach.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Not even a discussion of Dalpe's 6 points in five games (5g, 1a) for Albany?

Nice start and from an article I read even Markell remaining wouldn't have stopped him from leaving. Said he knew he was ready half way through this past season.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Wow! That is great for Dalps. Pour it on, kid.:D

Any idea how Hunter is doing? (I suppose I could take some initiative and find out myself... what a lazy bum).:o

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

I would love for Gene to give us something to talk about. :p I think the team will bounce back and come together under the new coaching staff, they should play closer to 2008-09 vs 2009-10. Dalpe will surely be missed and he certainly had skills that Markell's system was not tapping into. As for Hunter's numbers...they were 4 games played as of yesterday.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Now back to the offseason discussion...will Oz keep either Bitner or Brent? Any one know when will Oz's first press conference be held? Or did I miss it?

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Ohio State Soph. D-man Matt Bartkowski signs with Boston.

http://bruins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=527488

So that is three players now, Dalpe, Bishop and Bartkowski. Will there be any others like Albert (Atlanta)?

So did Boston and the Bartkowski's do this now because they think he will develop better in their system than he would have under Oseicki? Just wondering what others think, if it is just timing or were they waiting to see who the coach would be?! That is a big loss for OSU's backline.

My first thought is ***??? You bring in a guy as the new head coach who is primarily defensive minded and one of your top returning defensemen leaves early. This is certainly an interesting twist.

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

I guess if this doesn't hurt the scholarship count due to early departures it will give Oz extra money to bring his own guys in quicker - speed the transition. Glass is half full...look at me!:D

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Re Bartkowski signing: I used to be of a mind that it was foolish to leave early, regardless of the circumstances. However, these kids are just one hit away from never playing the sport again, and if opportunity knocks (there are indeed offers too good to refuse), it would be foolish NOT to open the door. Bartkowski is a smart kid (engineering student I think) so he will certainly have the opportunity to finish his degree at some point. I would guess it was not necessarily the case that the Bruins thought he would not develop, particularly given Osiecki's reputation. Rather, I suspect they believe he is ready to move up to the next level (and it is a very big jump from college to the AHL). If you are given that opportunity, why not take it?

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Wish him the best.... I would take it as well....

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Watched the video of the press conference and read Hunter's article in the Dispatch, yes they actually wrote something about hockey, but it was not clear about assistant coaches. At one point it sounded like he would keep them, but in another place it wasn't clear what would happen. Has anyone heard anything about Steve and JB?

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

Associate head coach will be Steve Rohlik from Minnesota Duluth. Former teammate of Osiecki's at Wisconsin. Per the Duluth newspaper he resigned yesterday at Duluth and told the staff and players late yesterday.

Heard rumors that Brent might get the second position, but one can hear almost anything one wants if you poke around enough.

Your uni's will now get changed. On the front of the sweater there will be a script "Ohio" with the dotted i as a "Motion W". :D

Noting new as far as changing uni's. OSUs has about a dozen sets and one never knows what they will wear. Red, white, gray, bumblebee stripe, scarlet and gray camo, black highlights, scarlet and gray highlights, no highlights, block letters, script letters - and that just about covers last season.:D

Re: Ohio State Offseason 2010: (hopefully) The Dawn of a New Era

bench staff is now complete per the official site.....

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mark Osiecki, Ohio State men's hockey coach, will be joined behind the bench by Steve Rohlik and Steve Brent as he opens his tenure with the Buckeyes. Osiecki, who was named head coach April 24, has named Rohlik (raw-lick), who spent the last 10 years at Minnesota-Duluth, his associate head coach, with Brent, a Buckeye captain and member of the Ohio State coaching staff for more than 10 years, returning as an assistant coach.
