Ohio State Coach???

Crutch, I am intrigued by this possibility. What is she doing these days? I did a little research online and I see she has a foundation and holds a big hockey tournament in suburban Detroit somewhere, but other than that, I didn't really find much. Do you think she would be interested in becoming a college coach and relocating to Columbus? She obviously has the skillsets to be a great coach, but as you alluded to, might be tough to pull her away. Whoever it ends up being, it won't be long before we find out. I expect this to be wrapped up at some point next week.

Just curious, What is her skill set that would make her a great coach?

Re: Ohio State Coach???

Here is a link to a story that links to the full report on OSU coach
http://deadspin.com/read-the-full-re...the-1691976548

Posted this on the Coaching Change thread then saw the same quote that I responded to in this thread and figured my response should have been here.
So I just copied it below.

Other than the report making it sound as though some of the witnesses got together to rehearse their lines prior to the interviews, unless this impression was solely the function of how the investigator chose to categorize and summarize the evidence, it sounds like this guy needs some professional help.

(And a 12 page report! Seems quite thorough...and according to the report Handrahan contradicts himself...after claiming that he doesn't recollect uttering some of the alleged comments he then apparently claims that his alleged comments were taken out of context, thereby necessarily implying that he has knowledge or a recollection of them).

Easily handles all-star attitudes. Gets girls playing hard. Firm but respectful. My understanding is she is very popular and well respected among all players who have had the opportunity to play for her. One of the most charismatic female coaches I have had the opportunity to observe. I believe a few commitments heading to Ohio have been coached by her at one point. Definitely a drawing card for any prospect.

fixt it 4U
one word:
divorce

that pretty much explains everything, the behavior, the underperformance of the team, very few individuals can function anywhere near 100% going thru and coming out of that process, some can get over it in a couple years, some 5 years, some never

it's one thing for somebody to function at work when they sit in a cube or factyory and interact with a machine
but somebody whose main job function is interacting with people ... there are going to be problems, too bad he couldn't have taken a year off or something

maybe he should have a legal team looking at a way to sue OSU
they should have known he needed professional help to deal with the stress he was going thru
I'm sure an inventive lawyer could think of something

Agree, almost completely. It's just that his unacceptable behaviour didn't stop the moment he got divorced. And now he has lost his job and has this media attention and reputation following/chasing or maybe preceding him, for who knows how long, to add to his woes. So, I still think that the present tense ("needs") is the accurate term.

And who knows what he was like or would have been like before his marital difficulties. These things usually don`t happen overnight
so they were probably building before the divorce, meaning that there may not have been a time during his OSU tenure when he was free from this stress. If that`s the case then there was no time during his OSU tenure where one could reflect on his behaviour before and then after his marital difficulties began in order to see if there was a difference. If a person is just wired this way a nasty divorce sure wouldn`t help and would most likely just aggravate the situation but removing a divorce or bad marital relationship from the equation wouldn`t eliminate the problem...meaning the negative wiring.

Re: Ohio State Coach???

There is no excuse for his behavior - especially as a coach of young student athletes. Let's stop looking for one and move on.

Re: Ohio State Coach???

There is no excuse for his behavior

Definitions:
Excuse – to make allowance for, forgive, overlook, to grant pardon

Cause - The one, such as a person, event, or condition, that is responsible for an action or result.

just sayin'

I’m guessing everyone but you caught the connection to Miller and realized I wasn’t serious.

Re: Ohio State Coach???

Just read that John Markell has applied for the vacant OSU coaching position. I sincerely hope other candidates have applied. Of course, the way our athletic department treats hockey, I could see them hiring Markell. Because nothing says "commitment to the program" like bringing in that guy you fired from the men's job five years ago. Here's the #1 problem here ... our athletic department has **** on the hockey programs for so long that I don't think the candidates we really want here are even applying for the position. It would be great to finally get a difference-making coach in here to get this program going, but I just wonder who has actually applied for the position. Sometimes I fear the athletic department is intentionally trying to bury our hockey programs (both of them) so they can drop them down the road. Kind of sad, really. Ohio State has always been a sleeping giant in hockey, and it will continue to be that way until the athletic department provides the hockey programs with the resources they need to be successful and get to the next level and beyond.

I know you didn't mean it this way but this is hilarious. Couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes after reading it. Actually, still laughing.

LOL, glad I could entertain you, Blackbeard! :) Speaking of vacancies, what's the word there at UMD? I would guess you guys have a better chance at bringing in a top notch candidate than we do, despite the reported financial situation up there.

From an outsider, I would consider OSU the clear-cut top position open. I know you guys all complain about stuff like lack of commitment etc, but seriously compared to whom - UM and UW? Okay maybe, but probably no on else.

Nothing is going to come out until the National Championships (D1 & D3) are wrapped up. My guess would be sometime mid-April all of these programs will will have their new head coach in place.

I guess I point that out as it goes to the commitment to the women's program (which is what I was discussing) or lack thereof.

I would consider OSU the top position open, too. I know everyone probably gets sick of us complaining about our athletic department's lack of commitment, but I think it is a legitimate concern, and it's been that way for a long time ... too long, actually. And UM and UW aren't the only programs out there whose athletic departments make more of a commitment to hockey than ours, I'm sure of that.

Re: Ohio State Coach???

OSU has the most resources of any school. I think it is likely the prime coaching position especially with Suave there and the class coming in.

Prime Candidates:
Mike Sisti - Mercyhurst (My guess he is the candidate at OSU unless someone "better" wins it).
Joel Johnson - UM (Does he want a HC job? If so, OSU has the resources. Stay in Minnesota at UMD or MSU or leave for probably the best situation at OSU.)
Dan Koch - UW (Mankato may be a better fit - lives in Faribault. Pipeline of talent from SSM an hour away. May be time to jump instead of waiting for Jonson to retire.)
Jenny Potter - TU (most ties to UMD and UMD likely needs a women).

SISTI??? hahahahahah.......hahahhahah

Re: Ohio State Coach???

SISTI??? hahahahahah.......hahahhahah

Sisti would be a great candidate for the vacant position here, but you may be right on this one. I don't see him leaving Mercyhurst to come here. He has a great situation up there. You guys win your league almost every year and get the auto-bid to the NCAA Tournament. Why would he leave that and come to a school where hockey has been treated as an afterthought for a number of years, and oh BTW, his schedule would now involve playing Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota, and Wisconsin at least four times every season. I have no clue who has applied for the position or who we are going to bring in. I am hoping for the best, but not holding my breath.

And don't forget, while everyone seems to be focused on Miller's career, or lack thereof, Schuler needs work too. Wouldn't surprise me if she applies for your vacancy...why wouldn't she? Why wouldn't both of them apply?
