Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

The Bucks completed the sweep earlier today by a final score of 6-0. OSU netminder Kassidy Sauve stopped 26 shots and earned another shutout. Six different Buckeyes scored the goals today ... Samantha Bouley, Maddy Field, Dani Sadek, Breanne Grant, Jessica Dunne, and Jincy Dunne. Ohio State is back in action next weekend at home vs Bemidji State.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Ohio State takes game one of this weekend's series vs Bemidji State by a final score of 2-1. The Buckeyes were outshot in this one 45-25, but goaltender Kassidy Sauve continues to be spectacular in net, saving 44 of those 45 shots. Bemidji backstop Brittni Mowat has had a stellar career herself and kept the Beavers in the game with 23 saves on 25 shots. All the goals in this one were scored in the first period. The Buckeye goals were scored by Julianna Iafallo and Rebecca Freiburger. The Beavers' goal was scored by Emma Terres. Terres' goal was scored on a power play, the first power play goal allowed by Ohio State since October 15th (at Bemidji), a stretch of 36 straight penalty kills. The two teams are back at it tomorrow at 3:07 pm. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for the area until 1:00 pm EST, so if you are traveling to the game, please use caution. We want you to get to the game in one piece! :) For those who would like to get some skating in, there is a skate with the team after the game tomorrow. You can bring your own skates or you can rent them.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Bemidji State came back today to get a split. With the exceptions of the three non-league series vs RPI, Lindenwood, and Penn State, the Buckeyes have not been able to complete sweeps after winning on Friday night. Give the Beavers credit today, they came out firing and took a 2-0 lead after the first period. That would be all the Beavers would need as the Buckeyes, which the exception of a nice scoring play in the second period, did not get much going offensively in today's game. Bemidji State outshot Ohio State 37-26 with Brittni Mowat getting 25 saves. Kassidy Sauve had 34 saves for the Buckeyes. Bemidji's goals were scored by Haley Mack, Lauren Miller, and Lisa Laiti. Dani Sadek scored Ohio State's goal. It gets that much tougher the next two weekends as the Buckeyes travel to Minnesota next weekend, then Minnesota-Duluth the following weekend.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

It will be a challenging weekend for the Bucks this weekend as they are in Minneapolis to take on the Gophers. The Gophers are back home at Ridder Arena for the first time in a while and they will be hungry after last weekend's sweep at Minnesota-Duluth. Ohio State is coming off a home split against Bemidji where the Buckeyes won Friday night's game 2-1, but dropped the Saturday contest by a final score of 3-1. Coach Nadine Muzerall basically said after last weekend's games that the coaching staff is looking for more consistency from the team from one period to the next, as well as they needed to step up their compete level with the puck battles. They need to play every period with the same urgency, and that will especially be true the next couple weekends at Minnesota and UMD if Ohio State wants to be competitive and have a chance to get points. I am not making the trip to Minneapolis (I know, Gopher fans, I need to get to Ridder for a game someday ... add it to the list), but will stream it or follow on gametracker. Talk to everyone later today! :)

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

The Minnesota Gophers take game one tonight by a final score of 2-1. Neither team scored in the first period. Julianna Iafallo scored the Buckeyes only goal in the second period and the Buckeyes made that 1-0 lead stand until late in the third period when Minnesota scored two goals in the last ten minutes of the game. The Gopher goals were scored by Caitlin Reilly and Kelly Pannek. Minnesota outshot Ohio State by a wide margin, 33-8. Kassidy Sauve kept the Buckeyes in this with 31 saves. Emma May had 7 saves for the Gophers. The two teams are back at it tomorrow at 3:07 pm EST.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Ohio State turned the tables on the Gophers today with a shootout win on the road. Yes, we all know the NCAA sees this as a tie, but the Buckeyes earned the extra point with a win in the shootout. Minnesota outshot Ohio State in this one 36-26. Both goaltenders were staunch with Emma May stopping 25 of those 26 shots and Kassidy Sauve saved 35 of the 36 shots she saw. Minnesota's goal was scored by Sydney Baldwin in the second period to give the Gophers a 1-0 lead. The Buckeyes came back to tie it in the third on a goal from Katie Matheny. Julianna Iafallo scored the winner in the 7th round of the shootout to give the Buckeyes the extra point. It doesn't get any easier for Ohio State next weekend as they travel to Duluth to take on the UMD Bulldogs.

Great weekend by the Buckeyes, congrats!

Question for you, anyone know anything about Crystal Sorem? She was on the roster early and played some, but I don't see her listed now. Thanks.

Goldy_331, I have no idea what happened with Crystal Sorem, nor Ariana DePinto, but neither are on the roster at this time.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

I did not watch the game online, I only have a box score in front of me. The game was competitive for a couple of periods. Both teams scored a goal in the first period and the game stayed that way until the third period. At that point, Minnesota-Duluth exploded for five third period goals and won going away by a final score of 6-1. Rebecca Freiburger scored Ohio State's only goal. The UMD goals were scored by Sidney Morin, Katherine McGovern (2), Demi Crossman, Jessica Healey, and Maria Lindh. Kassidy Sauve saved 28 of the 33 shots she faced. She was replaced by Kaylee Remington who saved 6 of the 7 shots she faced. Minnesota-Duluth backstop Maddie Rooney saved 18 of the 19 shots she faced. The two teams are back at it tomorrow at 5:07 pm EST.

Minnesota-Duluth completed the sweep earlier today by a final score of 3-0. The Bulldogs outshot the Buckeyes 32-18 with UMD goaltender Maddie Rooney stopping all 18 of Ohio State's shots. Buckeye backstop Kassidy Sauve did her best to keep Ohio State in the game with a 29-save performance. The Bulldog goals were scored by Ashleigh Brykaliuk, Lara Stalder, and Linnea Hedin. Both teams will be back in action next weekend with UMD hosting North Dakota and the Buckeyes hosting St. Cloud.

Heads up Buckeyes.

If you haven't looked, there is an active discussion of OSU Women's Hockey going on over in the UMD thread!

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Ohio State dropped game one of this weekend's series vs St. Cloud by a final score of 3-1. The coaching staff was disappointed, and you could see the disappointment on the players' faces after the game. The game started well for the Buckeyes as they spent a good portion of the first period in the offensive zone but could only get a power play goal from Lauren Spring. St. Cloud got on the board toward the end of the period, scoring a goal with 1:21 left in the first period to tie it. The Huskies' goal was scored by Lauren Hespenheide. Both teams went scoreless in the second period. Ohio State was done in by a slow start in the third period. The period started with a power play for the Buckeyes, but they were not able to score. Ohio State's slow start to the third period continued for a couple more minutes and St. Cloud capitalized with a couple of goals to take a 3-1 lead, which turned out to be the difference in tonight's game. Christa Moody got the game-winner for the Huskies and Kayla Friesen added an insurance goal. Ohio State outshot St. Cloud 34-26 with Husky backstop Janine Alder stopping 33 of those shots. Kassidy Sauve stopped 23 of the 26 shots she faced. The two teams face off in the finale tomorrow at 3:07 pm EST.
