Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

One would think Muzzy would use her MN connections to the fullest. They only need to land 2 per year from MN that MN would have picked up (had WI passed on them of course ;)). Ride the pine @ UM for 2 years as they hoard players, then maybe play, or come to OSU and play 4 years.
I sense an ulterior motive here...

Second tier players like Dunne, Sauve, Fields and Maltais? More top players coming and with the new staff in place, they should be able to compete for players that will view a top state school as a great option. A new facility will not hurt if that's in the cards.Top tier players who want to make an immediate impact will be looking at this school. Coaching stability is key. Time will tell.

Did these players go to prep school? I think what Shelfit was going for is that top prep school players are more interested in places like the Ivies than OSU. I would agree with others that MN high school players seem like a better fit at OSU than prep school players. My guess is that Koizumi is comfortable recruiting prep school players from her Yale days and thinks she can get these same kids to go OSU now. She will likely find she is wrong.

What? An ulterior motive from me? hahahahahaha. Don't we all want to see OSU become the 3rd best team in the league? Better them than the sue or the dawgettes.

You would be correct about what I was saying. And I agree with the rest of your post.

Thinking about this a little more - when USA Hockey and the rest of the D1 recruiting world except for the Ivies have given up on New England women's players and decided that MN and Canada are pretty much the only source of D1 players, why would OSU of all places start recruiting there? Again - probably goes back to Koizumi - but still seems really strange to me.

It does seem strange that only three players on the USA U18's are from the northeastern part of the U.S., two from New York and one from New Jersey. But as reflected on the USA team, top players are coming from all over, including Illinois, Michigan, California, Alaska and Texas. Surprisingly, Massachusetts is not represented this year, nor is Wisconsin.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Apparently Muzzy is an assistant coach with Canada in the Nations Cup this weekend, so OSU is basically going to go with 1 coach on the bench eh? Or did the other assistant clear customs by now? I did not know Muzzy has Canadian, she must have Canadian connections as far as recruiting goes, but MN is so hyper-focused on MN kids maybe she doesn't have many Canadian connections.

Muzzy is a Canadian and from Ontario, not sure where as I am not too familiar with the area, but has been in the US for awhile now that I doubt many connections exist. While she has worked at Hockey Canada camps this is the first time she has been named an assistant coach of a National team. I believe both Maltais and Bouley have skated with her in Calgary at a Hockey Canada camp.

Doubt its a big issue with her gone this weekend. The girls did skate a month this season with no coaches.

See, there are those assumption getting you again. Frost & company are not "hyper-focused on MN kids". MN kids grow up WANTING to play for the Gophers so they are a relatively easy sell allowing Frost to spend more time with other recruits. If you would manage to develop more talent in Wisconsin you would see the same sort of thing with the Badgers. Instead you have to count on Minnesota kids who are not allergic to red or don't mind losing in the NCAA series.

I am surprised the Minny kids don't look at other schools for the simple fact of the instability of the Athletic Department at MN. The daily issues that litter the Media of the Twin Cities should cause some parents to look beyond the on ice success of the program. The issues that exist on this campus reach far beyond the current status of the football program! Do your research! Programs like OSU, Wisco, UMD, & several East schools will top your list if you look beyond the confines of Ridder. Parity is closer than you may think...

Maybe. But women's hockey is not an oasis at the U of M. Hockey, volleyball, and softball have all got it rockin' in a pretty great way. I don't necessarily think they are going to let the boys and their sexual escapades drive them away or ruin the good thing they've got going.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa GASP HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa

Yeah the hockey program is sooooooo unstable & has sooooooo many problems. It is stunning they can even field a team most years.
You are right about parity but the failings of the former AD and the football team are not the reason. More and better players are the reason.

As for football, it is not just Nebraska, Florida, Miami, Alabama, Penn or Minnesota that have the problem. If decency and scholarship where a requirement there would be no D-I football in the US but thank GAWD that will never happen because winning is the only thing.

I think the point here is beyond ego's. Football team is going 10-1 on women, wresting team is pawning drugs, basketball teams ability to retain players is %15. Add that to the alarming crime rate, the AD getting fired for fondling women. Perhaps the mature parent is thinking about environment, education, morality and growing as a person. Rather than Peek a boo from behind a banner and pretending the girls hockey is all that matters! After all the new AD Coyle said, the "M" never leaves. I guess he meant everyone except the girls hockey team.

U of M women's hockey - and men's hockey for that matter - are so far removed from this shameful episode, involving several football team players, that it makes your post look totally disingenuous. Unlike several other schools that have seen their student athletes involved in similarly disgusting behavior, Minnesota is holding these players accountable. After a thorough review they recommended some very serious punishment, including expulsion for the most egregious cases.

Bottom line: it is very unfair to draw any connection to what happened with several U of M football players to women's hockey. Brad Frost and his staff will continue to attract great hockey players of great character.

End of story.

Dust Bucket sounds like a recruiter for one of these other schools...:)

The bottom line is...You just can't beat the subliminal drawing power of the white van with the hand painted free skates sign. No way...No how.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

The Ohio State Women took down Penn State earlier tonight by a final score of 5-0. The Bucks scored three first-period goals and that was all Kassidy Sauve would need as she earned a 29-save shutout. Katie Matheny had a hat trick for the Buckeyes. Ohio State's other goals were scored by Maddy Field and Jincy Dunne. The two teams are back at it tomorrow at 2:00.
