Saw something posted on another site that its confirmed that the new arena will only seat 1500-3000 that is absurd.
It's only absurd if we're building a facility for both teams to compete in. If the new building is for Women's games only, that's the perfect size. IMHO.
The men will never leave the schott now.
Based on the tea leaves I've been reading for years, you've got the order of events backwards. My perception is that it was first decided that the Men were staying in the Schott. If true, then it makes perfect sense that the new facility should be optimally sized for the Women's program. However it now appears that the decision to stay in the Schott may be under further review.
They need a place of their own to play and practice. They hardly ever get to practice on the ice they play on.
Well, yeah. Can't disagree.
So maybe the Men's Program is now saying: "Hey, wait a minute. We're not going to make the Art Modell mistake. We want new digs too."

I thought that the design study was going to be the final confirmation, and there's no way that's been completed.
That's certainly my reading of the recent trustees' action. It now seems that issues we thought were settled are to be revisited. If yes, that's going to take time.
In any event, it's pretty unsurprising to me. There was no right size for both the men and women, and it was pretty clear that the women were first in line...
Which is why I had thought the "Pegula Model" at Penn State had been deemed unsuitable for Ohio State. (one rink for both teams) Instead, Minnesota's Mariucci/Ridder Model or Wisconsin's Kohl/LaBahn Model -- meaning one rink for each team -- were the more relevant examples.
And yes, Women's Hockey should be "first in line." The Men's Hockey set-up at the Schott isn't ideal, but it is satisfactory. The Women's Team needs a new facility on ASAP basis. In fact it's long overdue. Don't get me wrong, I also want the Men's Team to get upgrades and be well taken care of.
I would only hope that the design from both an architectural and land standpoint comes up with something where a 7500 seat men's arena can seamlessly be added in the future.
The site that's been proposed is North of Covelli. In other words, not physically connected to, or even adjacent to, the Schott. If that's a guiding principle, then a future arena designed specifically for Men's Hockey could be built anywhere there's a suitable piece of land. But maybe this is also under further review.
FWIW, the two rinks are connected by tunnels at both MN & WI. Among other things, this is quite helpful if you're hosting a tournament. Example: Availability of additional locker rooms. But if the new building is equipped with plenty of locker rooms, a spacious press box and so on, then the tunnel connection is less of a priority.
