Official XXX Summer Olympiad: London 2012- Take II

Re: Official XXX Summer Olympiad: London 2012- Take II

I'm not trying to prove or disprove anything other than that there is a long tradition of sprinting success in the Caribbean. My post was in reply to Slap Shot, who seemed not to be aware of it.

The only thing I am unaware of is a statement attributed to me that I did not make.

I decline to discuss your points regarding performance enhancing drugs, because I choose not to get involved in an argument about a subject that I know nothing about.

And i appreciated your posting the list. No question that there have been some real bright spots in running from that area.

At this rate and out of nowhere? But I am curious about all these other examples.

Lets see, out of the Carribbean- Bahamas got a gold (400m Relay), Grenada got gold (400m), Dominican Republic Gold (400m hurdle, and a Silver)....

Trinidad & Togbago did really well (1G, 4B), Puerto Rico got a bronze, many of the Netherlands team comes from Curaso, Cuba (1S, 1B), not to mention Guatamala or Columbia...

The entire Carribbean did great. Jamaica just did better than the others.

And even with that, the US got 29 medals vs. Jamaica's 12.

But I also think Puerto Rico could be doing better.... but that's a personal thing.

Interesting stat -
2/3 of US Gold won by women.
The US women won more total medals than any country  except for Russia, China, and Great Britain (and obviously the US) and more golds than any country except for China (they tied with GB).

Other than Mitt putting his foot in his mouth, the Olympics went well with many exciting events and results. The closing ceremony is different and kind of a fun event to watch and to end the events on a good note. Well done to our English hosts.

Yeah, Mitt's minor quibble almost completely overshadowed the games. I'd imagine if he'd said nothing about security, you would have criticized him as having "chickened out."

I don't know why Duran Duran isnt performing tonight, and performing Rio. Perfect fit!!

Yeah, none of that compares to what Jamaica has done all by themselves lately. Not sure how anyone could gather I said the Carribbean has been completely dormant and not that Jamaica's recent success has been extraordinary.

Not to put a damper on the multiple p-i-ssing matches that have suddenly cropped up (guess the olympic spirit is over), but the closing ceremony was pretty darn great.

I liked nearly everything other than the Oasis singer - just awful. Everyone else was great.

The Who sounded way better than I would have expected.

Great job by London.

NBC missed several shots (of course) such as the actual human cannonball. How can you miss that when you know the show's order and are showing it delayed?

I think it might have been you who missed the human cannonball because I saw it while watching NBC tonight, and then they showed Prince Whosawhatsa's reaction to the guy landing in the net.

That said, Eric Idle was easily my favorite part of the night. I watched the closing ceremonies only intermittently, so take it for what it's worth.

I only remember seeing the guy land in the net in real time, but looking at video, they showed the wide angle of the stadium. :o

I would like to formally apologize to NBC for besmirching their outstanding coverage of these olympic games.

And good on him to keep the line in and make NBC bleep. :)
