Official XXX Summer Olympiad: London 2012- Take II

Generic Catchy Message
Looks like the old one was wiped out.

Quick recap of what was talked about:
USA Nike jerseys were awful
USA opening ceremony uniforms made in China
USA basketball warm-up games... Dream Team still better.
Women's soccer opened up, North Korea wouldn't take the field because the South Korean flag was on the scoreboard. USA women win 4-2.

Unfortunately Priceless' photos of the Olympians are also gone...

Some [redacted] probably reported them as "offensive." :(

Also wiped out were the notes on the first female athletes ever to represent Arab countries.

There was an article <strike>somewhere (cnnsi?)</strike> [edit: in the New York Post, an interview with Misty May-Treanor, with appropriate photo:)] about allowing women in beach volleyball to wear shirts and shorts [edit: if they wanted, although that definitely is not her choice]. Fortunately teams USA feel that they play better in their bikinis. :)

Great Britain gives up a goal in the 80th minute to Senegal, ends in a 1-1 draw in front of 70,000 at Old Trafford.

Referee really lost control of the game by allowing reckless challenges from Senegal. They shoulld have been down 1 or 2 men prior to the 80th minute.

Re: Official XXX Summer Olympiad: London 2012- Take II

Probably a misprint but....
A diehard Olympics fan was researching all things about the Summer Games ahead of the opening ceremonies Friday. Reading the BBC website about the Olympic triathlon, the Kensington man -- himself a triathlete -- sent his girlfriend an email: "I'm very much looking forward to this. I hope it is hot." And then he quoted the rules: "In the swim ... Swimsuits are not allowed to be used if the temperature is above 20C [68 degrees Fahrenheit] and are mandatory when the temperature is below 14C [57]."

Re: Official XXX Summer Olympiad: London 2012- Take II

Definitely a misprint. It should say "Wetsuits are not allowed..." Standard procedure for all triathlons, but yes a pretty funny typo.

Despite pleas from the USOC, the IOC did not approve this kayak for the 2012 games:

So if you want to watch the opening ceremonies live, you are out of luck from what I've gathered as NBC isn't even streaming it online. Awesome.

I watched the Beijing one for about 10 minutes before I couldn't stand it anymore. There was so much hype for that one, I thought it must be good, but it just really sucked.

Re: Official XXX Summer Olympiad: London 2012- Take II

I love the opening ceremonies. Going to one is on my bucket list.

I like watching them also. I wouldn't mind see one, but the cost is crazy expensive even for the Olympics.

I didn't bother to look at the old thread but is anyone here going to any of the events? My wife and I are going to watch the gold medal matches (men & women) for field hockey. My wife is loves the sport (played varsity for Cornell) so off we go in about a week and a half. This will be my first summer games (went to winter games in Vancouver) and I am excited for them.
