I liked the opening act with the Industrial Revolution stuff, it was entertaining and had cool visuals. I especially liked how they had the workers carry away the scenery both because it was metaphorical and hey it helped clear everything out for the next scene.

The Bond stuff and the Rowan Atkinson stuff was nice for amusing little segueways. Though with Rowan Atkinson they should have had it all being him playing the keyboard and none of the cutaway running on the beach stuff.

The Peter Pan stuff was OK, not my cup of tea but being Britain I guess they had to do something like that, and it told an OK story.

I think we're all in agreement about the Tim Berners Lee story sucking.

I liked the torch too. I didn't really get the point of the leaves when they were coming in, so that was a cool use of them. And not every torch lighting has to be an amazing feat of physics, sometimes it can just be a nice message like here.

I find it kind of ironic... Every Olympics we hear how much security there is... And yet somehow, some way, people still manage to get vuvuzelas into the soccer matches :mad: :rolleyes:

On a side note, Deadspin has the video of the 7/7 tribute that NBC decided to cut out to air a taped interview with Michael Phelps and Ryan Seacrest.

I'll pause here while we all imagine how utterly bat**** insane we would have gone if the BBC had cut out the 9/11 tribute portions of the 2002 Opening Ceremony. Real classy, NBC.

(Although Ireland and Poland would be tough competition.)

You don't have to.

My ambition for this Olympics is not to watch a minute of either men's or women's basketball. I would literally rather watch equestrian.

Thank you for posting that.

I find NBC's treatment of this utterly and completely hypocritical. With NBC's criticism of the LOCOG decision not to have any moment of silence in remembrance of the 1972 Munich Massacre, I would think expect them to treat with respect those murdered in Britain on 7/7. Disgusting and revolting treatment by NBC.

While that game was on the other options on tv were
-women's soccer
Tennis
Another women's soccer

I would prefer seeing other sports that don't require hours with the olympics.

5-0 France over North Korea in women's soccer. I wonder how bad the torture will be once they get back to Pyongyang?

Scarlet-could not agree more. The torch lighting at Barcelona was the best ever. As far as hotties-just give me the Javelin tosser from Paraguay and i could be a very happy fellow.;)

Yeah, Doc, Barcelona was very special. Remember how emotional Enberg got? In recent years, the lightings have become a little too techno for my tastes. Even so, ALL cauldron lightings are special. All are memorable. Even the very first one in Berlin.

Just me I guess, but I enjoyed the lighting this year. I thought it was pretty moving and the lastter part of the OC was much better imho. I tried to get in with the pageantry of the first half but was a bit bored to tell the truth.

Just watched gymnastics on NBC online. No commercials. Sweet indeed.

Edit: now that doesn't seem to be an option.

Primetime is only on NBC I believe.

They had some on during the day on MSNBC and NBCSN.

Can I say too many times how aggravating it is to have the commentators decide who should win and concentrate on them even if someone else wins. Just watched the Phelps interview after he didn't medal. Um- why are we focusing on Phelps? He did not win. Let that go and concentrate on the guy who did. :rolleyes: I want to stick a fork in Bob C. eye. he sounds like such an idiot.

I got a nice smile on my face when I flipped through the women's game vs. Croatia and my wife remarked that Britney Griner could smoke those clowns on Croatia.
