Some other notes:

--The $1 stocks are fantastic places to store your cash. No death penalties.

Death penalty caps at $5000. That's chump change after you beat the story. Also, save Lester's assassination missions until after you beat the story for maximum earning potential (I think you have to do one to advance the story, but save as many as you can.)

--I wish there was a way to autogenerate the Sanchez without having to go to the top of Chiliad. It's always a pain in the *** to get back down. However, I did manage to set an insane distance in the highest fall distance survived. It was well over 2,000 feet.

There is a cheat to spawn a Sanchez. Also check the beaches. Sometimes you can get one there.

--I've managed to get gold in most of the gun range events. Not sure how.

Are you Jesus?

--The Coil is by far my favorite vehicle. Crazy amounts of torque, traction, and acceleration. I spent about five minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with my game and/or home theater system because the car wouldn't make a sound. Then I had a headslap moment and realized it was an electric.

The Coil is excellent for mountain climbing because of the boatload of low-end torque. The supercars are arguably better off-road than the actual off-road vehicles. The Sandking (big lifted pickup) isn't even 4WD! R* really needs to add off-road DLC (actual 4WD, lifted suspension, diff mods, improved performance, open country races, etc.) So much potential being wasted there.

Gripes:
--The manual aiming blows. The red dot needs to get bigger.

Go into I think Settings -> Display and change the Targeting Reticule to Complex. Why this isn't the default I don't know. Massive improvement.

--The shoot first mentality of the cops gets a little tiring. Especially when they have me pinned in the car. You used to be able to basically surrender in the game. Maybe that changed because dying has such a small penalty.

You can get yourself busted at 1 star. Don't do it, it takes away ALL your ammo.

So after signing in last night, I come to find out the $1 shares of stock aren't available anymore... But that's only because the stock I had invested in went up 10,000%. I now have about $120 million for both Michael and Franklin. Before doing any of the Lester missions after the jewelry store. O.O

There is a cheat to spawn a Sanchez. Also check the beaches. Sometimes you can get one there.

I'm trying to stay away from cheats because I don't want it to affect the game progress or anything like that. I'll have to check the beaches. Such a great bike.

SOrry, nix that. It was silver on most. :o I still have a few bronze, but that's only because I'm not going to throw my controller through the TV screen trying to aim with an invisible dot with a handgun. My favorite though is that on the SMG challenges, I have about half the accuracy of every in the same score range I am. As soon as I get the aim down, I'm gold.

Yeah, I still prefer the modified VW Beetle (I always call this kind of cars "jalopies") or the Sanchez. Nothing beats the Sanchez though. You can turn sharp and basically do a reverse ski run up a nearly vertical mountain with this.

Agreed on the off-road DLC. Could be fun.

I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, at that point you can just order a Sanchez on your phone.

Also, a heads-up - don't go over $2.147 billion or it rolls over to negative.

You mean they set a cap value similar to this Latest Reputation Received (2147483647 point(s) total)?

The exact number. Reason being that number is...

*NERD MATH AHEAD: PROCEED WITH CAUTION*

...the signed 32-bit integer limit, in other words the highest plus or minus number a 32-bit counter can record before it runs out of counting capacity and diarrheas all over the place.

I'm aware, I took computer classes back in my school days. It's 2147483647 = (2^31)-1

I didn't want to use parentheses there, but it makes for easier reading since I'm not going through the process of figuring out who to post superscript here.

Best thing ever last night (might have needed to be there):

A buddy and I were minding our own business just driving around and some little pr*ck comes over and wastes us with his overpowered whatever gun. Neither of us are carrying cash. We come back and kill him. He won't leave us alone while we're trying to start a mission. I get killed and spawn at the end of the bridge while my buddy is dinking with his cell phone. I get in my car, probably hit 120-150 mph and just cruise straight at the guy with nearly perpendicular routes. He's focused in on shooting at my teammate while he's on the cell phone. Completely obliterate the guy at 150 mph right in front of my buddy (who didn't see me coming at all). It played out like that bus scene in Mean Girls.

We laughed for about 5 minutes straight. The guy stopped trying to kill us after that.

Still working through Disgaea D2. Got my first character to level 9,999. Now I'm stealing rank 39 items to level them up in the item world. On the 100th floor of that item I can steal rank 40 and other rare equipment.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Pre ordered Forza 5 LE. Even though I probably won't have an Xbox1 till next year sometime.

Any of you playing GTA V found Walt and Jesse's RV yet?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Picked up NFS Rivals as I am wont to do (PS3 version, not ready to shell out for a PS4 yet.)

Basically, it's 2010 Hot Pursuit the sequel. Looks okay even on last-gen, but still some glitches and texture loading issues.

The Speed Points (XP that let you buy cars, upgrades, etc.) are done on a risk/reward system. Once you earn them, you have to get back to a hideout to bank them. The longer you stay out driving around and doing events, the higher your heat level goes and the points start to multiply, but if you get busted you lose everything. And you will get busted. These cops don't screw around. My stock Porsche Cayman was going up against multiple Gallardos and GT-Rs with EMPs and shock rams 3 races in.

The other big gimmick this time around is AllDrive, which basically merges single player events with the multiplayer lobby. For instance if you're a cop driving around and someone else's race event goes past you, you can flip on your lights and try to bust people in the middle of the event. Oh, and if you bust someone, guess who gets all those Speed Points he just lost? You can also meet up and do events together.

The only gripe: remember how I complain all the time about EA's cheapass AI and traffic/cop/spawn scripting? This game is on entirely another planet. Congratulations on finishing 1st in that tough race! Here's 50K Speed Points! The nearest hideout is 3 miles from the finish line, you have a sliver of health left from the race that we're not going to bother to repair, and those five cop Gallardos you picked up during the race aren't going anywhere. Have fun, son!

And don't even start me on Interceptor (lose the cops in under X minutes for gold.) You're completely at the mercy of the AI. If it wants to spawn another cop after you lose the first, it's going to. And I witnessed one on the radar hit about 300 mph to catch up to me after I outdistanced him and got into cooldown.

Oh, and those speed cameras you can try to post high speeds on? Every time you pass one it alerts the cops to your location and restarts the pursuit if you were in cooldown. At no point does the game inform you of this. That's rich.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Think I've kinda figured out Rivals. Seems to get easier once you get past the scrub cars and unlock Pursuit Tech with which to defend yourself.

First things first, if you're a racer boost all your cars' durability to max. First priority every time. It's worth it. The racer cars are made of farking papier mache to start. Two traffic crashes or Pursuit Tech hits will leave you in extreme danger of being busted, three or four can KO you. You'll be able to risk staying out longer, and you won't find yourself getting beat up during a race and having to hightail it 3 miles back to a hideout on no health afterward.

Also, you don't need to lose the cops to access a hideout. You can use them ANY TIME, even in the middle of an event if things get too hot for you. Kinda doesn't make sense, but believe me the game would be pretty close to impossible without it.

Best Pursuit Tech combo for staying alive is probably Shockwave/ESF. Shockwave can turn cops away from you and does pretty decent damage once you level it up. ESF protects against EMPs and mines, and does a crapton of damage if you bump another car with it active. If you're having trouble with races, try subbing in Turbo and/or EMP to reel in the AI ahead of you.

Don't try to wreck cops. They're too tough. Just run away and Shockwave them if they get close. I'm level 13 and I've wrecked one just because it was a mission requirement. It took me three solid minutes of turning around and toying with him to empty his life bar.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

So....most of today was spent with some British guy podcasting on a youtube channel as he's playing Minecraft (or something like that) on some videogame system. My gf's kids are completely mesmerized while watching it, and love all the videos this guy has made. Personally, I had no idea WTeff it was, and can only figure out from watching it, that it's a primitive form of SIMs or something.

Yes, the guy describes what he's doing, who other characters are, who is fans are (he has fans?!) etc.

A little help for future reference?

This oughta cover it.

If it's not yogscast, it's not minecraft. (Effectively jump started the game with how popular their videos became)

And yes, it is one of the most addicting games you can possibly play. People have even gone so far as to sit down and create their own working computers in game.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

It seems PSN Plus members are getting Borderlands 2 and Grid 2 for free. :)

That sounds like the guy. And I've gone into tropes before. I don't get it. :(
