Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Had to recreate my character for Online, but now it is running smoothly. I am up to level 6 and about $21k in the bank.

I am using a solo world, and then joining others for races, etc. So far I am 4-0 in races. One of them was a tandem motorcycle race where I was the driver. Also doing the random missions Lamar and Simeon have for me (mostly repo's).

Also doing hold ups of stores for cash is easy. Just make sure to not shoot the clerk. If he is shot its a 3 star wanted level (choppers), if not its only 2 stars and much easier to evade the police.

I'll probably stay mostly solo as well. Don't feel like playing with a bunch of Jimmy De Santas :D

Well you can do invite only sessions too. I'm down for running around together.

I spoke too soon. It froze while I was quitting Online mode.

Twitch Boy's Adventures in Stealing The Fighter Jet:

Attempt as Franklin. Plan is crash the gate, hit bullet time to drive to the hangar, jump in, take off.

Problem is the second I get near the plane the stars kick in and the tank inevitably sitting nearby turns me into BBQ spare ribs.

Repeat about 10 times with no luck.

Finally give up and look for another jet that isn't swarming with tanks. Find one literally 50 feet away and realize I was going for the wrong one. Spout obscenities.

Hop in, take off, dodge two missiles, OUTTA THERE! Stars clear.

Now what to do with the thing. I very stupidly haven't bought Franklin his airport hangar yet. No problem, I'll land at Trevor's airfield, drive Trevor over, and have Trevor put it in his hangar. Fly to Sandy Shores, land at airfield, taxi into Trevor's hangar, quicksave. Switch to Trevor.

Trevor is on top of Mount Chiliad in a negligee.

Well, screw this. Keep Franklin in the plane, switch to Michael, I'll drive him over and have him fly it to his airport hangar.

Michael is drunk off his *** in Sandy Shores. Wait off the drunkenness, drive to the hangar, get Franklin out of the plane, get Michael in, quicksave. Switch back to Trevor to see if he has abandoned his little soul-searching expedition. He has! He's 5 freaking miles away, but at least he has his truck again. Drive Trevor over to the hangar.

Upon approaching the hangar Trevor's plane has spawned and the jet is gone. Switch back to Michael. Michael is out of the jet standing next to the hangar. The next thing I hear is a massive explosion from inside the hangar. Grand.

Load quicksave with Michael in the jet. Decide to just take it to Michael's hangar. Fly to the airport, land on the runway, taxi to the hangar...

"Michael and Trevor have been exiled from Los Santos." NOW you tell me.

Taxi into the hangar. Plane saves. Shoot about 10 of Martin's henchmen, steal their SUV, which has a popped tire. Attempt to drive all the way across Los Santos to the highway while being pursued by henchmen. All four tires eventually pop. Make it all the way to north of Vespucci Beach by Michael's shrink's house. Crash and get shot to ****.

Save, play out mission string and get Michael allowed back into Los Santos.

Plane is still there. If it wasn't I would have sworn off the game right there.

if you would hurry up and beat the story that wouldn't have been so difficult. haha.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Is Michael's pool boy significant to the plot at some point. I tried to take him out in a random act of violence and it wouldn't let me.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Finally got around to completing the story. When Franklin has to make a choice before the last mission, choose C for the "good" ending.

The psych eval from Dr. Friedlander after the credits...ouch, man. That hit a little too close to home.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

R* is crediting everyone on GTA Online with $500K because of all the glitches. COMMUNISM IN ACTION!

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Disgaea D2 is an excellent addition to the series. A direct sequel to the original story line

Choosing C for the good ending seems pretty self explanatory when they give you the choice.....

So yeah, GTA Online is pretty much a demilitarized zone at the moment. Apparently hackers are going around robbing hacked convenience stores for a billion dollars a pop, then sharing the money with everyone on the server :D

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

So played GTA Online some more. Figured out that at Rank 15 you unlock the Survival missions. These are fantastic! Surviving all 10 waves gets you $20k and some good RP. With 3-4 people it's fairly easy but it does take a bit. But again, $20k.

So I finally managed to purchase the cheap $80k apartment with 2 car garage. The garage comes with a mechanic ($50 a day) who will fix your vehicle and deliver your vehicle to where you are. The apartment automatically becomes your starting point when you sign in.

Ok, I've been away for a long time (some was GTA related, but most had to do with the fact that my home theater system was finally completed *drool*). But I'm able to get that jet with about 80% success rate now. Go for the one in the open surrounded by fences. Basically you want to head straight for the mountains as low as possible. Ducking to the right just as you pass the control tower helps take out any missiles that have latched on. Once you get beyond the fenceline just go straight up until the jet stalls.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

I haven't touched GTA V in a couple weeks. Been focused on Disgaea D2 recently. Beat the main story and now I am working through the post-game. I'll never beat the very last post game boss because it requires far too much effort to get your characters ready.

To give you an idea (on the last/hardest boss), before you even get a chance to make any moves any character you put on the map takes 9 billion (with a B) damage.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VII: The 7th Generation Comes To A Close

Some other notes:

--I've found myself just wandering in this game more than any of the other GTAs. Maybe even as much as RDR.
--The little things make this game.
--Jacking the 747 and flying it around was pretty fun. Insert tasteless jokes here. You know the ones I'm talking about...
--Strafing in the fighter jet is outrageously fun.
--The $1 stocks are fantastic places to store your cash. No death penalties.
--I wish there was a way to autogenerate the Sanchez without having to go to the top of Chiliad. It's always a pain in the *** to get back down. However, I did manage to set an insane distance in the highest fall distance survived. It was well over 2,000 feet.
--I've managed to get gold in most of the gun range events. Not sure how.
--The Coil is by far my favorite vehicle. Crazy amounts of torque, traction, and acceleration. I spent about five minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with my game and/or home theater system because the car wouldn't make a sound. Then I had a headslap moment and realized it was an electric.
--Trevor may be the greatest character in the history of video games. "If you get bored, you can jerk me off in the car. *pause* No, you can suck me off." I cried I was laughing so hard.
--At first, I thought dying was far too easy in the game. Then I realized it was probably just about right. Frustrating at times, but lots of good spawn points, no weapons penalties, etc.
--The scenery is breathtaking. Until you happen to wander upon the nudist colony, get shot at, get your sniper rifle out to take out the unseen shooters only to realize their schwantzes are dangling there. Jeebus...
--Although, I got a great kick out of showing the roommate the crazy beautiful scenery photos I took only to toss in a picture of a wang. Didn't expect a thing.

Gripes:
--I can't believe R* didn't implement a similar set of triggers for being wanted. Nothing is more frustrating than mowing down some jack*$$ in the woods and getting wanted. NO ONE SAW IT! Ditto with the sniper rifle.
--The minigames are ok. Not really worth playing too much based on where I am in the game (36.6%, just got the sub).
--The manual aiming blows. The red dot needs to get bigger.
--The shoot first mentality of the cops gets a little tiring. Especially when they have me pinned in the car. You used to be able to basically surrender in the game. Maybe that changed because dying has such a small penalty.

I'm hoping a lot of my gripes are fixed in patches. I haven't played since about a day or two before GTA Online went live.
