Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I'd like to thank Brent for stopping by to state the obvious. That he is stuck in 1992.

Maybe it was a cry for help! :D

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Even though I only sorta peruse this thread once in a while, since I'm a console generation behind (PS2), I read everyone's posts for a page or so, and long for the days of a one-button/one joystick video game.

Stuff like GTA/Red Dead Rock/whatever look fun and all.....until I play them. Video games are not supposed to require knowing how each of the 15 buttons and 2 joysticks work to play. It's just too much work to be fun. Even in the sports games.....

For example, I looked at the manual to figure out how to fight in NHL2K8 this past weekend, took note of all the other "moves" you can do in regular play.....JFC.

Gimme shoot, pass, check. Maybe drop pass. Definitely one-timer. That's about it. That's all I need. Auto line change? Fine. Some auto game strategies (adjust how aggressive you are: trap, all out willy nilly)? Fine.

I tell ya, you need a friggin' doctorate to play half the games now, without failing at them within 30 seconds or being bored within 2 minutes because you can't do anything.

you're confusing Fifa/Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution with pretty much every other game made. Soccer games are impossibly complicated when it comes to controls. Red dead is pretty simply. Run, jump, shoot, switch guns.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

............
I found that the game was like a bag of chips. I'd finish a mission and then say, "OK just one more and I'll stop/go to bed/whatever." One mission became, two, and so on. Either way, you end up out of shape and totally fulfilled.

Exactly. And the p!sser for me is I HAVE to get to bed by ten so I can get up at five. :(

Last night I played MW2 to keep my chops for the new map pack coming out later this week. After playing RDR so much, it took me a while to find my FPS skills again. :o

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I feel bad. I really want SMG2 and SMBWii but I haven't bought them because I know they will get set aside in about a week's time no matter how good they are. :(

I dunno, some of us get up at 5 every day, but don't go to bed at 10... :o

That's a great story, grandpa!

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Couple grand? What do you think you are going to buy? The most expensive item in the game is like $800 and won't be available for a long time. :p

Armadillo has a rifle that costs that much alone. I figure better guns is better shooting. Also I can stock up on medicine, etc. That'll come in handy.

So, does this video game thing explain the check thing with Brent?

Ahh, well I still stand by it being the most expensive item. :)

The most expensive safe house I think is $400. The rest are like $50-200. Although you can rent some for $5.

The most expensive horse deed is $750.

So, does this video game thing explain the check thing with Brent?

What's strange about that is that checks are the most complicated form of payment you can use these days. :D

Well, I had no problem getting 500 bucks worth of kill hunting. Figure I stock up on cash now then I'll always have it later. Want a new pistol and rifle. Maybe I get me a nice horse too like GLM. ;)

Yeah, he likes the PS3 Controls for his own money but he's got to have the ATM Debit card for his video games.

It's an enigma.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

When I'm 50 I am sure I will be going to bed at 8 pm, getting up at 4 am and hitting denny's for dinner at 4 pm. :p

LOL! :D

Like I say - despite being 50 I still stay up until 10-ish and get up at 5. I don't go to Denny's either, since I have my own supply of fresh eggs. ;)

And Brent - once you've played these games a while you don't even realize you're hitting the buttons you need to. It's just second nature. Switching between different game styles you may need a short period of adjustment, but it comes back to you like riding a bike.

I can do it and I'm FIFTY YEARS OLD FFS! :p ;)

NSMBWii, to me, was more fun in co-op mode. I'm still working my way through SMG2 (I think I have 104/242 stars right now). SMB might be good to have if you have people over, though I've known a few people to dub it "the friend killer" when you play co-op :p I'm really liking SMG2, too.

And remember, guys, Brent still writes checks. ;)

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

If you wait a minute or two you can whistle for another horse. You have an unlimited supply of them, even if you kill them. But there is a short delay between times that the horse will come to you after it dies (not more than 2 minutes).

I've found it's easier to just shoot someone and take their horse. :D

I'm not playing to complete missions yet, I'm just having fun playing. So far I've killed about two dozen men. Crappy money though. :p

LOL

Priceless is going evil. That should make missions kind of tough pretty soon.

And people don't have a sense of humor. Walk into the saloon, draw your gun on the sheriff and there's six revolvers pointing at you. It was just a joke :p

I completed the breaking a horse jobs at a neighboring ranch, but accidentally rode over the rancher, who thought I attacked him...next thing I knew he was stabbing me with his knife.

Very first time I played, I was in Armadillo and walked through a door into a building. Turns out it was the back door and that immediately put a $20 bounty on my head and I had people chasing me out of town with bullets flying. :D

That also reminds me, in Mexico if the Army has a bounty on you, there is nowhere to pay that off. Death is the only way I have found to clear it so far.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Finished Pigeons and Stunt Jumps in GTA IV last night!!!!!

14 Car Thefts and then the Vigilante Missions and I'm DONE 100%!

You can only get the really good horses if you break them in the wild. Then you gotta have the cash to buy the deed.

Enjoy lassoing. :D

It was hard enough to learn how to shoot. It's as complicated as writing out a check at the grocery store. ;)

Keep doing missions for Bonnie and you get one of the fastest horses in the game for free (the Kentucky Saddler.) Then just don't let it die.
