Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I rarely play any of the gambling games. I usually only do it if it's a qualifier for a mission, like Liars Dice. When the games come up, I hand the controller to Mrs. Gonzo and she plays them for me. Then I go make a cocktail :)

Lucky for the Mrs. then, as all 5 mini-games are required at least once for something (mission, outfit, etc.).

Oh and speaking of other ridiculous requirements, I give you Sharpshooter level 8. Shoot the hat off of and disarm 2 people.

Sounds simple, except usually when you shoot someones hat off, part of their brains go with it. Killing them doesn't count, as I learned in one of the previous challenges which was just to shoot 2 hats off.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Two horses gone. One by Boar, one by Thief.

Royally destroyed on my first bounty mission. Should have waited.

Won my first poker game, easily.

Did two Armadillo Sheriff missions.

Got waxed by some dudes out in the wild a couple of times. Don't know who they were.

Most fun since "The Witcher". I love D and D games and this blows Dragon Age out of the water. By far.

Dead Eye is the way to go that's for sure. Figured that out. It doesn't always pop on though. Reason?

Starting over now that I have a feel for it. Usually the way I go with all games. This one even more so cause I haven't used anything other than a mouse or keyboard for years.

:D

The red bar on the right side of your mini map is your Dead Eye bar. If its empty (or really low) it won't work when you click the right stick.

Also the lower it is, the shorter the duration you have in that mode.

It either refills over time (deadly assassin outfit doubles the refill speed) or if you shoot things outside of dead eye that also increases it.

There is also 3 levels of it that can be gained. I assume that just increases the length of the bar. I have level 3, but didn't pay attention to what changed about it.

If a thief jumps on your horse, simply whistle right away for it. Your horse will throw them off and then you can shoot them. :D

Thank you. Thank you.

Most fun I've had with a game in a while. There won't be enough time to play it I'm sure but that just means it lasts longer.

Although I've lost honor shooting them after I recover my horse. If you shoot them while they're on your horse, that's OK, apparently.

Seems quite a bit changed about it.

The difference between 2 & 3 is that on 2 if you just move the reticle across someone it will paint a target on them. With 3 you have to actually click to set the target, instead of just "touching" them with it.... I think....

Thats true. You could wear the bandana and shoot them for no loss of honor.

Or you can hogtie them and then either use bait to let animals attack them, or put them on the train tracks. None of those scenarios would cause honor loss, since you didn't do the killing.

Ahh, i definitely prefer being able to pick my targets, locations and number of shots with level 3.

I'm surprised I got so far without using Dead eye at all, because I barely touched it for the first half of the game. I just never remembered to use it basically.

:D

the game also gets harder as you get to mexico and beyond.. the poker is harder, the duels are harder, the bounty missions are slightly harder

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I really don't want to have to play Five Finger Fillet. Liar's Dice is pretty fun though, especially when the opponents are dopes.

just write down the combo. its easier that way. its not crazy hard to memorize, it just goes logically around the controller (back in the day, i sucked a simon)

also, i found the 2nd treasure if you still need help.. 3 and 4 are a breeze after that. i'm stuck on 5 now. no idea where the rocks in the picture are.

Yeah I'm up to treasure seven or eight now and those are in Mexico, at least they have been to this point.

I finally roped a Hungarian Half-bred last night and conveniently enough, it played right into the hands of a stranger mission I stumbled upon. So I hitched the horse in Chuparosa, bought the deed, brought the horse back for the stranger mission and was golden. Hooray random achievement!

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Would RDR make a good rental, or purchase? It sounds like it only takes a few days to play through, but the replay value is high. Is that accurate?

There's so much to do aside from the story that it's definitely worth a purchase. And it's not just assorted mini-game type stuff, it actually ties in well with what you're doing in the game. You have a huge amount of freedom to accomplish your mission however you please.

So, anyone done the Multi-player? How's that work? I imagine that could keep the replay value going for a while.

I did hear they blew the money thing. You can get all sorts of cash but there's nothing to spend it on (hope that isn't a spoiler, JF already mentioned you don't need money. They need to add some content to make being rich worthwhile.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

They have/or are adding 6 (or more) co-op missions to do online.

Otherwise online currently has a couple different choices. One of them is free roam, which i believe you share the space with whoever happens to connect. So you could be doing hideouts and someone could come along and kill you for no reason.

There is also the ability to form up to 8 player posses.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I fully intend to go back and play it again as a murdering bastard. Honor points be dammed :)

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Rockstar Social Club would be really cool and useful if it would update faster. It's still way behind where I am in the game (I finished all 57 missions, and have more outfits/hideouts completed).

Social Club Checklist

I fully intend to go back and play it again as a murdering bastard. Honor points be dammed :)

That might be pretty tough to pull off. I have to think about that one a bit.

I'm excited to turn evil after I have all the other content done so that I can get the $5000 bounty, and the 10 minutes eluding the US marshals achievements.

Although I may use the bandana. You still get a bounty, but no honor loss.

So there were some released screen shots of EA's NHL Slapshot for Wii... I'm still torn on how I feel about EA actually trying to attempt a solid release on the Wii (even though it's aimed at the elementary school crowd).

First screen shot. Really? It's "Backyard Hockey by EA Sports":

Second screen shot. I'm a little intrigued. They have major junior aged kids playing... Major Juniors. I'm still a little taken aback that the CHL is included in the game (and quite possibly soon the NCAA):

Third screen shot. The money shot. If this is taken from what they have for the Wii, this *may* not be that bad of a game. I'd really like to see some more screen shots, AHL teams, and read how they are going to update the rosters.

I really HATE how the jersey looks on Gretzky... but at least the characters aren't all glossy like Starting Lineup figurines.
