Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Found the latest rosters I could for The Show 09 and started a RTTS with myself as a pitcher, and of course I got drafted by Pittsburgh. With one season complete, I've been doing pretty well, and would probably be in AAA by now if I hadn't gotten injured three times, once with a hamstring and twice with a bruised shoulder.

I'm trying to get more of the trophies unlocked in this game, but I swear it's impossible to get some of them. Three times I've gone into the ninth with a shutout and I've either gotten pulled by just letting one guy on base, or everything falls apart after I've pitched stellar for the entire game. In addition there was the no-hitter (but not shutout due to a walk and error) that I lost in the seventh because the left fielder chose to not move to a ball twenty feet away that the center fielder missed on a diving attempt.

Some people have said that the minor league fielders are horrible, but to me it seems only the outfielders lack skill. I haven't seen a diving catch made or someone get thrown yet, but hopefully that changes as I move up in the ranks.

I am terrible at finding treasure. I'm still looking for the treasure on the second map.

After the first couple I just used the internets! :D

Actually even knowing the location doesn't mean you will find the treasure. Some are a pain to get to.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

is there a way to dig for the treasure? or is it on the surface? i'm at the first spot but i guess i cant find the right rocks since i dont see anything.

they sell a survivalist map that shows you were the flowers are (for 20 mins), its great for the survivalist challenges. dont pick the flowers up before you are asked by a challenge or a stranger because you wont get any credit for what you already did.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Finally beat the Mexico storyline and opened up the last section of map. As it turns out that area is the nicest looking in the whole game. I was pretty tired of the desert.

Killed some elk and moose while finishing up the last 2 treasures.

All of the treasures are hidden in piles of white rocks. The Y (360) button will say "inspect" when you are near it.

Good rule of thumb. If you have killed 2 bears, don't get off your horse. There is a 3rd one waiting! :D

I got mauled, but managed to live and take down the bad boy with my evans repeater.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

What do you guys think of buying a used PS3 on ebay for $200? Too risky or smart way to save money?

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I'm on board the Red Dead Express.

Bought a PS3 today. Ordered my Netflix DVD for free as well.

I have no clue what I'm doing yet. :)

Just get an HDMI cable and connect it to the most awesome TV in your house and enjoy the ride.

Go out east of the ranch and hunt birds. The feathers sell for $3 to $6 each depending on species at the general store, and you usually get 2 or 3 of them per bird. You can make a few hundred bucks in about an hour's work.

Don't go north of the ranch unless you enjoy being mauled by cougars.

What kind of cougars? ;)

Nice, thanks for the advice. Now I can make some money.

Here's my advice/tips.

- Do as many of the Bonnie missions as it takes to get the lasso right away. As that becomes very useful throughout the game.

- Learn to use the Dead Eye feature. It will save your life.

- Money was almost never an issue. So don't feel the need to farm for cash too much. Just help strangers, loot dead bodies, and finish missions.

- The more missions you complete, the more items become available at stores. Including much better weapons.

- Never buy a horse at the store. You have an unlimited supply.

- If you care about trophies. Do not switch/let your horse die until you have completed 20 missions. There is only 58 missions total. So if you pass the 38th mission and lose/change horses you could no longer obtain that trophy without starting a new game (the mission that gives you another horse doesn't count against you).

EA sports has announced they're making an NHL game for the Wii.

With Gretzky.

Focused on "younger players."

THIS EA is why you're a fu**ing embarassment on the Wii console. And why te Wii doesn't get the mature respect you want it too. Because you treat it like a kids toy and then b**ch when adults don't buy your games.

F* you EA.

That's disappointing. The Wii could be (and when used right, is) a useful tool for rehab and fitness. The tennis game helped my wrist and arm recover, and Wii Fit is great for exercise. It seems like Nintendo has confused vision. They could tap into a market of people who aren't gamers (I didn't have a console until after I had surgery) but they keep aiming games at kids. The PS3/XBox is the console of choice for traditional gamers; Wii should aim games at the non-traditional markets, rather than fight a battle they will surely lose.

Let's be accurate. EA is not Nintendo. Nintendo isn't telling EA to make crappy games for their console.

1st Party titles from Nintendo for the Wii have pretty much across the board been excellent and could appeal to core gamers (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc.) as well as new gamers (Warioware, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, etc.).

ETA: Also to be fair to EA, Tiger Woods golf on the Wii was actually the best version of all the consoles last year.

This one I disagree with. If you rope the Kentucky Saddler, Hungarian Half-Breed (in Mexico) or the American Standardbreed make sure to hitch it somewhere (so you can keep it) and then buy the deed for it at a general store so you can call on it at any time. They're the three best horses in the game and breaking all three also unlocks a trophy/achievement. They're expensive to buy the deed for but absolutely worth it to do so.

Any of the other horses, however, don't bother with buying they're everywhere to be found and all are about the same.

Other than the achievement, what use have you had for them? Its nice that they are fast, but it doesn't really change the game any. You could beat it using a donkey! :D

Even without the deed you can ride the ones you catch, and if your other horse is gone, they will be the one you whistle for.

Plus for any really long travel I use Improved Campsite/Fast travel or the free Stagecoach Taxi's.

You haven't lived til you've had the American Standardbreed - top speed and the stamina is fine too. It's the perfect horse to have. I have to try to search out the Hungarian in Mexico now.

Let's put it this way, when you're doing bounty missions and you want a horse that will get you the hell out of town fast, you'll appreciate it.

You get a Kentucky Saddler for free in the horse breaking mission for Bonnie. After you break it, just keep it.
