Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

I was reminded recently of a store called "Four Firkins" in St Louis Park, which deals in small-time beers/etc. Maybe it's there?

All I know is, I'll have to check out the store sometime. I guess they do special orders, also.

The Lost Abbey site has a map of where their beers can be found. Unfortunately for you, you'd have to venture to downstate WI to find it.:p

No I wouldn't. I know people. You think every time I have New Glarus or KBC I go to WI or MI, respectively? Hell no. :D

New Glarus is all over down there. You'd have to be a blind/deaf boll weevil not to find it.

I have yet to see it around where I live. Is it at Surdyk's or something?

Last place I remember seeing it was at an LQ in Como near my brother's place.

So, travel 40 minutes to get some beer, or simply wait and really enjoy the special events to savor the beer? I'll take the latter. Makes it taste that much better. That means you've earned it, due to the wait period. ;)

I'll probably be down that way in a couple of weeks to hang with my brother.....Mrs. Plante26 has a conference to go to. I'll bring you a shipment of the NGSC. I might even have to bring a growler of Brewhouse Starfire. Good shizznitt.

Yeah, lemme know. Either that, or when you show up at the F5. We can have a sort of exchange party with the Techies, WI's, and us. :D

Leaving for England later today. I know I will be drinking some warm beer there, even though I am not a beer fan. Does anyone know any good drinks that are a must there?

Biddco, look for pubs that are endorsed by CAMRA and you'll most likely find some very good beer. Beyond that, unless you're in very specific areas that I'm familiar with, I can't really help you specifically.

Every article on "where are the world's best cocktails" for the last five years has said, "In London." So you should be able to find whatever you're looking for. Of course, it might cost you 14 pounds. :o One option is Cuban, which is a little harder to find in the US. In the Islington neighborhood there's Cuba Libre. http://cubalibrelondon.co.uk/

Finding a bartender that knows how to make anything in London is a real treat. You're going to find that the typical pub doesn't have much along the lines of "mix" drinks. The nicer places have bartenders that can do some stuff, but mostly if it's anything beyond rum and coke, they probably won't know how to make it. Also, tipping there is a lot less common. I think one night I gave a bartender a pound tip after giving me my drink and he looked at me like I was insulting him.

Having a Spotted Cow as we speak.

Suck it, 'Hoven! :D

I could have sworn I had it before, but I don't recall being this happy with Schell's Snowstorm before. Good stuff, Maynard!
