I think I will be putting Bailey's on my X-mas list. And I'm almost out of rum, maybe that should go on my list. Alcohol seems like a very appropriate gift in this economy.

I made the investment and picked up some Bailey's the other day. My roommate and I were drinking that while we decorated our apartment. It is quite delicious.

Bailey's: Iron Range Coffee Creamer.

The only way to enjoy your morning cup of joe: with a little binger to brighten up your day.:)

I'll probably buy a bottle of Bailey's when the first real snowfall happens.

And as far as going along with coffee, Irish whiskey is the only answer. ;)

Eggnog coming up for the weekend.

Takes 24+ hours. Soak 1 cup brown sugar, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, in 1 pint of cheap rum. In separate bowl beat 6 eggs, then add rum mixture. Refrigerate for 24 hours. In new bowl, beat 1 quart of whipping cream until it's just short of whipped cream. Gradually add rum mixture, sprinkle top with nutmeg.

That sounds wonderful.

Would the lazy method of using Eggbeaters or something similar work? I suppose it isn't THAT much work, but there's always that salmonella aspect.

There's enough booze to kill the bacteria. :p

And, according to Alton Brown, odds of getting salmonella from raw eggs is 1 in 10,000

Bingo

If you're really that worried, you can spend slightly more for a carton of pasteurized eggs that have been quickly heat-treated. As far as I know, they look, taste, and act just like ordinary eggs. However, I've never purchased them because I've never actually gotten sick from eating raw eggs.

True enough, it's not like I've never eaten them raw either. :o

*Usually you get a couple glasses (most common), a shaker (Ketel One), etc etc. And legally they cannot charge extra for the gift sets in MN. :)

I wondered about that. It's like, I'm already buying the whiskey. And it's the same price to get two rocks glasses thrown in. What's not to like?

Oh yeah. I'm definitely borrowing this recipe and making it tonight. How much cloves/nutmeg/cinnamon do you recommend, 'ewe?

tsp of the last two and a dash of the first one (not big on cloves myself)

My stomach laughs in the face of salmonella.

Why does it have to be cheap rum? I've got a bottle of dark Bacardi on my counter. Can I use that?

Is it next week this time, yet???
I hate waiting...

Doesn't have to be - just what my mom wrote when she wrote the recipe.

Sweet...
Might try making some myself. :)

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

Played some poker last night with some friends. It was "cheap beer night" and my turn to buy. My local LQ had a special on something called Mountain Crest for $8.99 for a case. I had never heard of it but I figured it would qualify. Going down it wasn't as bad as rubbing alcohol, but let's just say you wouldn't want to be downwind from me today.
