A few, but not a ton.

List

I'm pretty sure that's the reasoning some states have given for why no booze shipments into (or in some cases out of) I believe. Either that or alcohol distribution lobbyists are doing an effective job of cutting direct to consumer purchasing.

Liquor taxes would be the big reason I suspect. For example, the tax in Duluth, MN is 11.0% on alcohol, while across the bridge in Superior, WI it is 5.5%. Not a big deal on a 12er, but if you're stocking up for, say, deer season or New Year's, then you're looking at $6 per $100 that you're saving by crossing the bridge. And I know that some states have astronomical liquor taxes......

Why can't you ship wine to Massachusetts!
Probably to protect all those local Massachusetts wineries. Are there wineries in Mass?

In some states, it's a FELONY to have wine shipped to you from out-of-state.

It's a huge mess, and it all comes from the three-tier system of alcohol distribution (producer to distributor to re-seller) that all booze has to go through. It was one of the concessions Congress had to make to get Prohibition repealed. You know: We'll keep those Chicago bootleggers from shooting up your town by creating a complicated system of distribution. Maybe a good idea at the time; but now, the people involved in that pipeline have a lot of money, and they don't want to lose any of it by having you be able to order wine straight from a vineyard.

When I lived in Minnesota, grocery stores kept trying to have the law changed so that you could by wine there. I used to live in California, where the generic, local Safeway had amazing wines, so I didn't think it was that big a deal. But again, there's a lot of money involved. The liquor distributors have a lot of sway in government, and they did all they could to keep it from happening in MN. Their flyers around Election Day were pretty funny: "Do you want little 14-yr-old Johnny to be able to buy ALCOHOL from his pimpled friend at the grocer's? No! And neither do we. We're your local beverage distributors, and we're committed to keeping teens safe!"

The same logic is used for interstate wine sales: They always invoke sneaky 14-yr-olds getting bombed on wine they've ordered on-line with a fake birthday.

There had been a few successes over the last decade, with courts saying bans on wine shipping were violations of Interstate Commerce. But this summer a court allowed NY to ban out-of-state wine shipments, which puts everybody right back where we started.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Not bad. It was on sale.:D

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

Mmmmmm....shower beer.

Always a classic.

Sipping on New Belgium 2 Below. For a seasonal beer, it's far from par. It should be better than a normal beer, but it's not. Still decent, but my least fave NB beer, by far.

You don't like this one or the Hoptober and swear by Fat Tire? You're weird. ;)

I tried a sampler from Hub City (IA) over the weekend, including a nut brown, pale ale and oatmeal stout. Interestingly enough, my favorite was the pale ale when on most occasions my preference of the three styles would be the nut or the oatmeal. I will probably try them again but the pale ale itself is worthy of future purchases.

I'm JMH, and I approve this message.

The shower in my last apartment had a great shelf that was at the right height to keep the beer away from the water. In my current place I have to keep it on the side of the sink outside the shower, which isn't quite the same.

I haven't had the Hoptober. I don't swear by Fat Tire (but it is good). And I like 2 Below, but compared (key word) to the other NB beers, and the fact that it's a seasonal (which I hold to a higher standard, no matter the brewer), it disappointed me, and ranks lower than the other NB beers I've had. :)

I had to move some of the girlfriends hair products off the shelf hanging from the shower head. :)

Three apartments ago, there was a shelf in the shower and a direct line to see the TV in the living room. That was fun.

I've got me a shorty of Black Bush in hand, a fire going in the wood stove, and some '80s porn mags to flip through.

Ah, the bacon-wrapped perfection that is tHunting Shack....speaking of bacon, I might just fry me up some right now, because you can't eat too well during deer season. :D

Adult beverage on deck: Southern Tier Imperial Iniquity Black Ale. F-N awesome.

I am feeling up a short, hot, African-American woman, making love down by the fire, with some visual aides to help the mood. And then, I'm cooking her breakfast. And then getting drunk.

Right? :D

'Hoven: You have successfully decrypted my Blackberry-sent update from tDeer Camp*. Win. You must now travel through the small intestines. There you will find the Sparrow Prince. :D

*Minus the black chick. And I'll be cooking only me breakfast, considering the rest of the camp is gone til tomorrow night....and considering I don't share bacon very well.

Edit: 2am bacon is the best bacon there is. :)

Hey. Take it to the "USCHO Cooks" thread, Rachael Ray. :p

On the list of 2am drinks, however, I'd like to nominate as Worst 2am drink the bottle of Kahlua that's the only thing left in the house. after several otherh good drinks, and then you discover there's no whiskey left anywehers. So you drink the straight Kalhlua, thinking it'll do. But it does NOT.

They are not an alcoholic. There are numerous words in that statement that they should spell incorrectly before "Guinness."

I know that, but in the "spirit" of the thread, it was a necessary post.
