Oh man... Last night was great. Beer pong, then had some good beer (Sam Adams Boston Ale). Finished off the night with the bottle of Booker's and cigars on the deck with the guys (although I skipped the cigars since I'm not a smoker). Apparently it went really well with the cigars.

You know what they say about guys who won't smoke a cigar, right?

Thanks to my frequent visitor's gift from OC today, I enjoyed an Orval Trappist Ale (about $8 for a 11.2 oz bottle) on the house. Really heady. REALLY heady. But quite good. Definite sipper.

What's everyone's thoughts on ABITA BREWING? I was poking around the grocery store and saw that they added this to their line... The TurboDog sounds like an interesting brown ale... They also make Purple Haze, which I've heard good things about... $10/sixer seems reasonable enough...

It's gonna be a good Friday night. After two years of searching, I got my hands on one 12 oz. bottle of Founders' Kentucky Breakfast Stout (2009 batch). It was not cheap, so it better live up to the hype.

Stocked up for the weekend in Minnesota. Bought Spotted Cow, Lakefront IPA, and Arrogant Bastard Oaked.

Have some New Belgium 2 Below, Sierra Nevada Stout and a Raven's Eye Imperial Stout 'bomber' on hand for the weekend. Yay.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Kentucky Breakfast Stout: Really good; time in a whiskey barrel mellowed out the standard Breakfast Stout (a beer I felt was already top shelf), and added a touch of bourbon flavor to the party. Might be worth dropping a Hamilton on once per year.

I can also highly recommend Sazerac Rye to anyone who wants to try a real, pre-Prohibition style rye whiskey.

So the semi-weekly "Beef & Booze" get together we had the following wiskies: Redbreast, Canadian Club, Knob Creek, and some hilarious moonshine type stuff that literally came in a mason jar for comparison's sake. The label read, "Aged for no more than 30 days." Hilarious.

That last one would be Georgia Moon, IIRC. It's horrible. My brother bought it once as a gag gift.

COuld be. I have to say, I was pretty disappointed with Knob Creek. Wasn't even close to my favorite of the night. Canadian Club and Redbreast were great though.

I've heard a lot of great things about Redbreast, but Canadian Club? I always thought it was kinda pedestrian. *shrug*

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I should have said that Canadian Club wasn't great but it wasn't terrible. Pedestrian is probably a good description, but then again, we had it immediately following the moonshine. So perhaps the overall rating was a bit skewed.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

That makes more sense. :D

It's certainly not BAD, but nothing amazing from what I remember. Actually, it's been some time since I've had Canadian whisky - maybe once I finish the Powers, the Makers or the rye, I'll pick up some Canadian stuff.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

So I'm not much of a drinker. Never will be.

But my friend turned 21 on Saturday. He's not much of a drinker either. If we go out, we'll probably only each have a beer or two and that'll be that.

We went to The Four's in Boston, I bought him a Sam Adams Octoberfest, which is excellent (my first time trying it).

I also bought him a Morphine Drip (Bacardi 151, Amaretto, Butterscotch Schnapps), which is amazing. He liked it a lot as well.
