Yeah, another part of it was the fact that I was going to pick up a bottle of Booker's on the way to the game to enjoy after. I was running very late and made it to the game with only about 15 minutes to spare.

*shakes head*

Rookie.

Yup - you always keep the emergency stash, whether it's that beer you only tolerate, or simply a bottle of liquor with ice in the freezer.

EDIT: Ah. Well, at least you have good taste in liquor, even if you can't taste it right now. :o

Exactly! I have a mini fridge that is constantly filled with beer or liquor. During the winter I stock double because of the cold temps outside. Every Friday, I stop at the liquor store on my way home from work to stock up for the weekend. Usually on Saturday, I have to go out and buy more plus a case of Miller Lite for emergencies during the week.

The other half is the beer issue. I have nothing cold right now.

Imperial Bock? I'm guessing it's high in alcohol and could handle 30-45 minutes in the freezer, which would solve this dilemma.

9.5 ABV. It probably could, but I'd rather cool it down slowly. It'll be here for tomorrow's game.

Yeah, I regularly stick beers that are 6+ in the freezer. As long as I retrieve them after a half hour, they're always cold and not frozen or even slushy. Sometimes, they even have to sit out for a bit if it's a big, heavy beer that should be served a little warmer.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Fill bucket with ice and water. Insert bottle. Spin/rotate bottle in a rather fast fashion. Voila! And it doesn't shake up the beer.

If I buy beer warm, no matter the ABV, you can put it in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes, to get the chilling process started, then transfer to the fridge. After about 10-20 minutes, boom, cold beer.

Good way to start off the weekend.

It's kinda crappy this year, and frankly all this year's seasonal brews have been total let-downs too.

Too bad :(

Agree on the SA Octoberfest. It's alright, but not particularly noteworthy. There should definitely be better options, just look around your area.

Trying a local brew this afternoon - Rochester Mills "Cornerstone" IPA; surprisingly good. I grew up about 10 minutes from the brewpub (I live further out now, but still within driving distance) and based on what my old man used to say, I wouldn't have guessed that their beer was this good. Hops. Mmmm...

It's a little pricey, but their six packs are 16 oz. cans.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

The beer has been fridged.

I'm a sam adams shill. This is going to sound stupid but I actually waited until 21 to drink and I knew exactly which beer I was going to have. Always been my go to beer at a bar. Sam Adams Boston Lager.

I really enjoyed their pumpkin ale despite a lot of people hating it. their Oktoberfest was ok. Not great. I'm very, very excited to try their Imperial Double Bock tonight. Especially after reading this.

It might be crass, but I find Genny Light's Chet Hammerton campaign hilarious.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Favorite beers I've had this year:

Bell's Oberon (goes without saying)
Furthermore Knot Stock (brewed with black pepper; has an awesome bite!)
Lakefront Snake Chaser Irish Style Stout
Breckinridge SummerBright Ale
Hoegaarden Original White Ale (this was great on a hot day after performing with my band at a ceremony downtown--light and refreshing and very summery)
Sprecher Pipers Scotch-style Ale
Lakefront Riverwest Stein

One I did not like so much:
New Glarus Brewing Old English Style Porter (it was just too sweet for me).

Right now I have a little Knot Stock and a case of Leinies Honey Weiss in my fridge. Should have tackled it while I was on vacation this week, but I was a little more excited about having Jameson to drink. ;)

Drunk after watching the UW/Gopher s***fest.

About ready to head back out. Awesome.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Have only had it on tap, but the Summit Oktoberfest is outstanding this year.

Really? I would have expected it to be superhoppy - was it like that or a bit milder?

Had a Schell's Oktoberfest this evening, and it was decent. Big flavor, typically Schell's malty, and almost a fruit aftertaste.

I do believe that Tech's 2-0 start calls for a Baltika night. Gotta enjoy this while it lasts, since we'll be back under .500 within a couple weeks. :D

You could be 5-0-0 with a little luck. Your next 3 games aren't terribly tough.

I believe we will lose to a POed NMU team on Tuesday night, and probably split with Mankato. We always seem to underachieve against the purple Mavs.

After that, @ Wisco and @ UMD...yeah, back under .500 soon enough.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Sam Adams Imperial Double Bock. Good but disappointing. I expected to be blown away. I'd probably be happier if I hadn't put it on a pedestal before trying it. Oh well.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I may be well-trained, but Baltika never lets me down (note: I started at 11:30). ;) :D
